feature request for auto-screenshot
« on: November 03, 2014, 02:12 AM »
1) is there a possibility to add the "auto-screenshot" option?
it will allow to auto-create screenshots (silently, in the background) every "specified quantity" of seconds/minutes...

the whole idea is illustrated in this image:

2) because of possible huge quantity of images (up to 3600 per hour), this option may be implemented into screenshot captor with an additional functionality:
auto-move already created screenshots to different sub-folders, for example:

e:\screen-shots\2014.11.03 (12.01-15.00)
e:\screen-shots\2014.11.03 (15.01-18.00)
e:\screen-shots\2014.11.03 (18.01-21.00)...

at a quick glance i can see that feature #1 is already available in the app (see images).

i was exploring the settings (in search of something related to auto-screenshoting) but this "auto capture timer options" part turned out to be quite anti-obvious for me so i failed to understand it at all and moved further to other options

anyway the idea of auto-capturing could be implemented in more convenient way, i think:
- there is a minor problem: rate is always not precise (i set 5 ms, the result is 5 or 6; i set 8, the result is 8 or 9...)
- stop after is limited to 99.999 (which is kind of strange and not very useful)
- constant toggling via icon (of notification area) is not convenient at all (i always hide this icon)
- seemingly a hotkey for toggling could not be set

so yes, feature #1 is already implemented but it is full of disadvantages and it is not as good as in the image that i posted earlier. and feature #2 seems to be quite important but it is absent in screenshot captor

Sounds like a totally different problem: Taking a screenshot every 5 milliseconds is probably faster than Windows can store the image on disk, so the next one might be a bit delayed... :o
And needing that feature, a more efficient solution might be to make a screen-movie, instead of a bunch of separate image files, that are not stored very efficient, compared to a (usually stored compressed) movie.
You might better use ESR (Easy Screencast Recorder) for that.

sorry, that was a mistake. i had to write 5 s (or 5000 ms) instead of 5 ms

i have a proposal concerning the implementation of the feature #2:
theoretically, a simple option may be more or less sufficient - 'move each new 200 screenshots into new sub-folder'
of course, '200' should be changeable
sub-folders should be entitled either '1', '2', '3'... or (better) according to the pattern defined by a user [see 2nd part of the 1st post in this topic]

there is a small additional feature request: a possibility to save auto-screenshots into a different folder
in other words: 1 folder for screenshots made via hot-key, the other folder for auto-screenshots

I am considering a spin-off of Screenshot Captor specialized for auto-capturing of large numbers of images, sort of like an always-on screencast recording, with specialized features for reviewing past "recordings".

this spin-off is very interesting for me
especially because i had to delete the program "screenshot maker" after several days of testing (without a reason it started to create completely black images, where cursor was the only properly captured element)

are there any news concerning this idea?

i'm sure that this program is the best in its class but it turned out that i cannot use it
because unfortunately cursor blinks every time a screen-shot is made

not in all cases but very often it distracts and irritates
especially considering the fact that it may occur circa 10 times during 1 minute

maybe it sounds like a tiny problem not worth mentioning but not for me
similar programs behave the same. and seemingly there is no solution

Im not sure why it would be making the cursor blink - it doesn't do that on my tests.  Anyone else seeing this behavior?

I'd expect that to be a videodriver issue. Updating to the latest version, best would be a WHQL approved release, may solve it.

i think, this kind of blinking is not very evident for many people
it is necessary to look at cursor attentively right in the second when a png-file is saved

i use gtx 650 (driver 6.14.13.3750 from 2014.03.27)
but honestly, i doubt very much that new driver could remove this blinking
moreover, it is not very convenient time to change the video-driver now (in my case)

blinking is also present (when screen-shoting) in programs: screen-shot captor (2.96.02), hidden capture (3.2)

I see no such blinking in either program, so something is weird with your setup i think..

Two year old drivers? I assume you have installed Windows updates since then, so IMHO, there's a big chance something broke, and an updated driver is the least you should try :o
