I dont want to distract from your request PhuketGeek, but I notice my Options are *much* clearer - in spite of being the same size. This is due to the font. I'm not sure why that's different - maybe it's the Classic theme - I'm on aero (windows 7). Are you on XP or 7 ?

[edit] in both shots below, my options are shown on the right-hand-side, overlaid on yours [/edit]

My options overlaid on your shot, all @ 100%

=> detail of above @ 200%

=> EDIT// I quickly tried Classic theme - my more readable font stays the same. So, I presume you're on XP (?)

Yes, I'm on XP using a 23" Samsung monitor via analogue connection.

Thank you for taking the time to post your image, but I think my screen is marginally clearer than yours! See my picture below.

On the left side is your post and on the right side is my screen capture from my previous post magnified to about the same size as yours.

I reckon my font is marginally clearer.  :)

Oops, sorry! Yes, I see what you mean. Your font is definitely clearer than mine.

But on the other hand, if you compare the Options window font size, with the fonts I use on the rest of my screen, they sure look small. See first attachment.

Or compare them to, say, a Firefox Option window. See second attachment.

Or VLC Options window. See third attachment.

I don't think it's so much the clarity of the font as, simply, its size.

Maybe I'm just getting old...  :(

Yes, you're right - it is tiny compared to those.

Oddly they're the same size on my screen i.e. my Firefox options font is the same size as FARR's (so they'd both be too small for you...)
[edit] actually FARR's options are a bigger clearer font :-\ [/edit]

I'm wondering, have you scaled the system font?

It also looks like the OP has ClearType on, which uses certain fonts and can cause a fuzzy look.  I do not like ClearType at all.

My Display Properties / Appearance settings are:
Windows and button:
Windows Classic Style

Color Scheme:
Windows Classic

Font size:
Normal

Under Advanced Appearance, none of the items have been tweaked to increase the size of the fonts. e.g. Active Title Bar font is MS Sans Serif 8, Menu font is MS Sans Serif 8.

Attached is an image of Firefox menus alongside FARR.

I just checked Display Properties / Settings:  Screen Resolution is 1920 x 1080

Under Advanced, the DPI Setting is Large Size (120 DPI) - 125% Normal Size.

So I have increased the overall DPI Setting.

Yes, I have ClearType on.

I just compared ClearType on and ClearType off.

It is weird.

The small fonts in FARR appear clearer with ClearType off, but other fonts look clearer with ClearType on.

So overall, I think ClearType is a red herring.

So I have increased the overall DPI Setting.

that's the key - FARR has not responded to this change.
In my experience, many apps dont respond, or dont respond well to the 125% setting...
(Can also be very problematic when on a 768 pixel height display and you cannot read or reach the OK button on dialogues - e.g. in IE.)

And this problem is going to get worse with the adoption of 4k Displays.

Re. 768 pixel height display: I had that very problem on my Samsung NC10 Netbook - some programs had configuration windows that couldn't fit in the display, so I couldn't reach the "OK" button, etc.

Some extensions in Firefox are like that, too - they have fixed-size set-up screens, but others have vertical scroll bars on set-up screens so you CAN reach all of the check boxes and OK button.

Indeed. My 24" display is set to 1920x1080, which makes everything look small so I need to increase the DPI to compensate.

Having said that, there is another option for me, as I just saw in Display Properties / Settings / Advanced. See attached image.

I could reset the DPI setting to Normal and adjust the appearance of icons and fonts using the settings in the Display Property / Appearance tab and Appearance / Advanced tab.

When I have time to do this (busy at the moment), I'll let you know the results.
