Very nice idea!
A very useful software.

Just a question:

I'm not enable to add this item:
Current Workday (8.00 - 20.00)
(repeating it every day)
After clicking on Apply and Accept, it returns to 0.00 - 0.00 again.

Isn't it possible to add such an item?

Hi, first of all: The Software looks great.

Unfortunately i canĀ“t get it running correctly. If i try to configure a Starting Date/Time and Accept the Settings, the time is automatically reset to 00:00:00 everytime.

Even the example file with "Current Hour" or "Current Minute" is not working.

I am using the Portable Version on my USB Stick.

Anyone has an idea?

I'm guessing the problem is related to an issue with specifying a time in a format the program is not expecting.

Could you take a screenshot of how you set the time right before you hit accept, and post it here?

Thanks AbuFi.
I think it must be that the code is somehow dependent on American-style date and time, even though the control for selecting the date and time is showing it localized to your region.
This is the same problem that must be affecting robbero above.

I'm going to have to test it on a virtual machine with non-american date settings in order to fix it.

Stay tuned I will try to make a new version over the weekend.

Well this is very confusing.. I was sure the problem had to do with locale settings (different ways dates and times are represented).
But trying this on a virtual machine with your date and time locale settings, i cannot reproduce this problem.
I'm sure it's happening because several of you are experiencing the problem -- so i don't know whats happening.

Perhaps I am not reproducing the steps well enough.

AbuFi seemed to give me very clear steps to reproduce, but maybe i'm missing something.  Can you guys try to give me an exact set of steps to perform to try to recreate this problem where the time is resetting to 00:00:00?

Also, can you tell me your country setting in windows so i can make sure i get that exactly right?

OOPS never mind i set it to french locale and i got the 00s!  Stay tuned i'm on it!

Ok please download from the official web page (it still says on the web page version 2.02 but it's really version 2.03).

Changes:
v2.03.00 - May 16, 2014
  • [BugFix] Fixed problems where time values were reset to 00:00:00 in locales that use "," comma for decimals.
  • [Feature] When the start time is in the future, gauges now display the time until start.

Is that an option or a default feature? I prefer it the old way. So I'd rather not install the new version, if the previous setting would be lost.

Not an option, but i can make it one.
Can you help me understand why you would want it to behave the original way?

Can you help me understand why you would want it to behave the original way?

E.g. if I'm working on a project consisting of several parts (such as several chapters of a book to write), then I can set up each chapter as a bar with its start date and end date, and it's the end date that matters to me to be displayed in each. Why? Because if I overrun with chapter 1, it's more valuable for me to see when chapter 2 is due, rather than seeing that I should have already begun it. I know I'm late, so it doesn't help me to see a start date that's no longer relevant. However, the due date for chapter 2 hasn't changed yet, so that's still relevant information.

With the previous version (that I still use), if I overrun Chapter 1, its bar would display in red that "8 days past due (May 09, 2014)," and the next bar would say Chapter 2 "11 days remaining (May 28, 2014)" in green, so it does tell me I'm late but it also tells me how much time I have left for the next chapter, with its due date clearly displayed.

    Ok that's helpful.

From the description i can't quite tell if the new method will be better for you, but it's now an option, so it's safe for you to upgrade (the option is for each item, where you set the start+end dates).

    Let me know.

    Hi Mouser,

for some reason PBOL stopped working on my Win7, 64-bit PC. I restarted my system but I'm getting the same error messages as before, upon either process restart or full system restart:

    1. EAccessViolation
    2. Access violation at address 661581FB. Read of address 661581FB.
    3. Access violation at address 00779BF5 in module 'ProgressBarsOfLife.exe'. Read of address 00000005.

When I close the messages, 2. and 3. pop up a couple of more times, and then PBOL just stops.

Any idea what the problem might be?

    Yikes.
Can you send me a copy of your ProgressBarsOfLife.ini file and ProgressBarsOfLife.itemxml file (make backups for yourself too), so i can see if its something about those files? ([email protected])

    Uninstall/Reinstall won't do anything.
You could exit, delete your settings file and your items file, IF you wanted to lose all of those and start from scratch, which might solve your crashing problem but would lose all your data.

Actually -- I've just received your files, and I get the access error myself with them when the program starts!
That's great news, because it means it's a clear reproducible error that I should be able to fix easily.
Standby, I'm working on it now.

Can you download the beta version from:

This should fix the crash, but the real cause of the problem is something got messed up with your settings file (not your progress bar items but the visual and general options), causing many values to be blank.

What I think you should do is exit PBOL (make sure it is not running in task manager since the crashes could have left some copies running).
Then DELETE your ProgressBarsOfLife.ini file (MAKE A BACKUP SOMEWHERE FIRST!!!); That fie will be in MyDocuments\DonationCoder\ProgressBarsOfLife on windows 7 by default.
    Then restart PBOL.

Your items will not be lost but you will have to reconfigure your docking preferences, etc.
