how to create bootable cd iso

Hi people!, it's a "Silver Surfer" here with a ridiculously simple problem!
I need to create a bootable iso file to burn & make a bootable CD/DVD.
I have about all of the free iso burner software plus Nero Multimedia suite 10
& Ashampoo Burning studio 11.

This should be so simple - right?. I have been struggling with this for days.

Any help much appreciated - keep it simple and non tech/geek please.

It would help if we knew what type of bootable CD you require but Bart has good step-by-step guides for various types here.
