Release: sCheckbook
« on: March 20, 2012, 09:18 PM »
TitlesCheckbook
DescriptionSimple checkbook or bank account register.  I wrote this as a simple way for my daughters to keep track of their money.  I feel there are plenty of other full-featured account tracking applications out there and I don't want to reinvent the wheel.  As such, there are no fancy features like reporting, etc., nor will there be.  The application, however, does offer export to CSV and HTML formats.
Supported OSWindows 7.  Probably works, but not tested on, Windows XP/Vista/8

Hi again,

I was just about to start looking for something like this.
Just one small request, any chance of having the date in dd.mm.yyyy format?

Thanks.
I spent 25 years training to be an eccentric then I woke up one morning and realised that I'd cracked it.
I've not had to try since.

I wonder what happens if I click on thi

Here you go.  Now, as the changelog states, not all formats, including your preferred one, are going to be properly sortable.  The default format of yyyy-MM-dd is properly sortable.

Website | Download
v1.0.1 - 2012-04-09
+ Ability to specify a custom date format as per the following abbreviations:
      http://www.autohotke...mands/FormatTime.htm
To set a custom date format, edit the config.ini file and add a "DateFormat"
key to the "Settings" section like this:

      [Settings]
      DateFormat=dd.MM.yyyy

Keep in mind that this feature does not convert previously entered transactions.
Furthermore, not all formats will be properly sortable.  The default date format
      is yyyy-MM-dd.

You sir are a gentleman.

Just had a dry run and it does everything I need, it's a fraction of the size of the program that I have been using and is not cluttered up with countless 'Report' options which I never use anyway.
Sorting is not an issue for me as I get regular hard copies of accounts sent to me, once an item appears on there I remove it from the file.

As ever many thanks.

Hehehe, my daughters couldn't care less about reporting either.  All they want to know is, "Dad, how much money do I have in my account?"  My wife and I have found, using this "family bank" system, that our girls save their money much better than if they were to have actual cash burning a hole in their pockets.  As parents, we also don't give loans to our daughters.  If they want something, they have to save their dosh just like we do.

As ever many thanks.

You're welcome.  I'm glad you're finding the application useful.   :D

Many thanks for this program  - I find it very useful.  Good choice of icons too!
Just curious, is the source code available?

And I've noticed two (very minor) bugs:
-the Ctrl-O shortcut doesn't work upon launching the program (it does when a file is already open)
-the update check seems to create an empty .SCB file.

Welcome to the site, firace, and thanks for the bug report.  The application is closed source; the icons are part of the Fugue icon set.  The latest version of sCheckbook should address both bugs.  Thanks, again!

Is there a way to auto-open the last used checkbook file?
And to make the path to that file relative/ portable?

Yes, this can be done.  I'm out of town this week so I'll take care of it when I get back.

And to make the path to that file relative/ portable?

Ehhh...I'll have to see about this.

Hi, Burnsy, and welcome to the DonationCoder site.

Hey skwire. I've been looking for a banking program like this to help keep track of my finances. Does your program work with Windows 10 and does it still work?

I've never used Windows 10 but I would think that sCheckbook will work fine under it.
