any Numpad mouse / Mousekeys for Vista?

I am borrowing a laptop, so I cannot test or risk anything, like I normally would do. However, this weird "mousing" on a laptop is simply not me!, so I need to know if there is any up to date version of Numpad mouse / Mousekeys or similar that certainly will work on a 32-bits Vista Home Premium?

 

Numpad mouse / Mousekeys allowed the XP user to operate the cursor with the help of keyboard only,
but both programs are now quite old, and I have not found anything similar on this laptop Vista.

I can see it may still be possible:

Open the Use the computer without a mouse or keyboard page by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking Ease of Access, clicking Ease of Access Center, and then clicking Use the computer without a mouse or keyboard.

However, this feature is burried deep down in the hidden. If she would like to use her computer "now", I would first have to search here and there, to undo these settings. I need a simple program to start or exit.

Reading the quoted text again, I am not even sure I can use my own keyboard for anything other than selecting keys on the on-screen keyboard. It surely is the wrong way to do it, for me. I am of course hoping to navigate the cursor via the laptop's physical keyboard.

Edit: Update - seems to work fine on Windows 7 64-bit (albeit a bit slow in use). Personally I would like a better numpad layout - as it stands it is:

7=wheel up	8=up	9=wheel down
4=left	5=down	6=right
1=left button	2=right button	3=middle button

I tried it, but on this laptop it works only in parts, not fully as it did 10 years ago.

Hmm... and right out of nowhere I am testing on her computer all the same!

And what about connecting a corded mouse to an USB port and mousing away with that? 10 to 1 that your company's techsupport or the local supermarket has a free/cheap mouse laying around that you can use instead of the awkward glidepad mousing associated with laptops

Strange it works fine here (at least what it says it should do).

Should be possible to write an Autohotkey script to do this - why not post it as a coding snack request?

The glidepad (if that's what it's called) on my Samsung Q310 laptop is good enough that I haven't felt the need to upgrade it.  Its predecessor, an IBM T22, had one of those "rubber topped matchsticks," which are pretty awful, so I used a version of your solution and added a Logitek trackball.  Very nice gadget, and I won't be getting rid of it, in case of need.

Neatmouse has a config pane so you can assign any keys to the mouse function.

Thanks again, Carol. Neatmouse is really... ehh, well, neat! And NEW! Their forum's admin has made merely four posts! I have already made a feature request, of course, asking for the special laptop button "Fn" to be added as a "alt. modifier". The good thing about so brand new programs is that suggestions are still likely to be taken seriously! haha.

YEs it looks useful - handy on desktops too if you are messing with USB drivers and there is a danger the mouse will be killed.

I should explain that this laptop has a kind of NumPad in the keyboard. M=0, J=1, K=2, L=3, U=4, I=5, O=6, 7=7, 8=8, 9=9, and more, all activated via [Fn]

We made some investigations and it seems that, unfortunately, the processing of Fn key on software level is impossible.
We'll certainly implement this feature and let you know if situation changes

My setup has made my mouse pointer unstable; if left alone it will go walkabout..., so now I am going to test NeatMouse again even though I no longer am on a laptop. A new version was released just a week ago:
