ShareMouse website is not available today when I tried a download.

I'm quite interested in checking this out, especially as I tried the ridiculous MS Mouse Without Borders thing last week.

Mouse Without Borders is a horrible FAIL at best.  It totally relies on MS WorkGroup networking, which has always been crap. There was no way I could get two computers to connect through a desktop switch, even though they could ping each other.  Because of the switch, they couldn't grok each others Computer Name and so wouldn't talk.  Totally not workable for here at work, which is where I have the real requirement.  Might work for a home setup.

I'm interesetd to find out if ShareMouse uses something modern like an IP address rather than old MS horsecrap networking models.

I'll continue to try the site today, to see if it comes back up.  DonationCoder may have killed it! (which would be a good sign)

Indeed, our web server is down. I hope our hosting provider 1&1 will sort it out quickly. You can find at Twitter, that many other companies with dedicated servers running at 1&! are affected too. Seems to be a bigger problem.

The download failing has been reported in their issue tracker on 9/9, and I get the impression that nobody even looked at it >:(

Synergy seems to be a dormant project for some time, it is good to come up with alternatives.

I work at home on 2 different networks: 1 my home ADSL, the other one my company LAN network (through VPN). The limitation of Synergy is that both computers have to be on the same LAN, so I cannot use the mouse of my comptuer on my company LAN to control my computer on my house ADSL LAN.

Is this also the assumption with the likes of inputdirector, "mouse without borders", "share mouse" or is any of these able to re-use the mouse & keyboard of a computer on a LAN network to control a computer on a different LAN?

Could someone tell me if any of these programs works with 2 computers on different LANs? (same question as in my previous post)

I know a friend of mine uses synergy to do this. It does involve some extra network configuration, using ssh tunnels IIRC.

I'd recommend to use a dedicated shared network connection for a Software KVM solution. ShareMouse (like other solutions) won't be able to hop across separated networks without quirky work-arounds.

There may be good reasons why your network is separated (security?!) and you probably ask for trouble and performance loss if you try to link them.

By the way, we are now working on drag & drop of multiple files between Mac and Windows PCs. We will perhaps be able to post a demo video later today.

Can't wait to show it to you guys. Stay tuned.

Current download offers drag & drop between Windows PCs only and remote control between Mac <-> Win.

Next week we will add drag & drop between Mac <-> Win.

This looks great.
Are you thinking of adding Linux systems to the happy-sharing community?

Kind of.  :-[

Just looking to see if anyone has given it a run through before I try it out. It could be very useful to me as I'm planning on starting some Mac development soon, but it's easier to work on a PC. So... getting between them easily would be nice and could significantly speed me up.

Renegade, I believe it would be more efficient to just...

1. Unzip the 1MB ShareMouse Portable files on your desktop

2. Double-Click the ShareMouse runtime .exe

...than writing multiple posts indicating that you consider to try it out. I doubt that you would trust 2nd hand information more than your own.

;-)

Actually, I value the opinions of a lot of people here, so that's why I asked.

I really really really hate installing new software if I can avoid it, so I like to "dip my toes in the waters" if possible, and get opinions first.

Still... seeing that there's a portable version... very tempting... :)

But I'm still at least 2 weeks out from needing it (or being in a position to really give it a decent try), so I don't want to waste the trial period when I won't be able to properly evaluate it.

I've done that before where I downloaded and installed some software, but never had time to properly evaluate it. I've learned to be a bit more patient. :)

ShareMouse will not have any trial period that would expire after x days. These x days trial models are stupid as those can be easily hacked.

Instead, you can test ShareMouse for an unlimited "trial" period. The final version will just disconnect after a few minutes of use.
