CHS Feature Idea: Application-context-specific favorites?
« on: August 07, 2011, 04:07 PM »
It seems to me there would be some value in letting you customize the favorites section of the quick-paste menu so that it showed different contents depending on the current application that you trigger it from.

So for example if you pull up quick-paste from your financial application, you would see a different subset of favorites than if you pulled it up from your programming editor, etc.

Does anyone else think this would be a useful feature to add?

Assuming so, I just have to figure out a good way to let the user configure such a thing.

Late to the fray again  :(.

However, that would be a very useful modification for my current usage(s).  More applicable to SQL and PHP in my case, but very useful, particularly if you might be able to engender fine control, e.g. code - IDE content? - specific.  However, even coarse control would be extremely useful.  My vote is for your brain-strain  :P.

mouser, how are you intending to implement this?  By heuristics, or otherwise?

It's a feature that ArsClip already has, but ArsClip often gets it "wrong."  The quotes are because it's hard for ArsClip to decide what I'm really doing, if the program I'm using is general-purpose, like a Web browser or text editor.  So, even if you are intending to use heuristics, please will you consider adding an override after the manner of several sticky notes programs that attach to a particular window, viz., the ability to switch by window title, preferably with wildcards?
