look at the size of my recycle bin !!!
« on: March 03, 2006, 11:31 AM »
i think i came across this link on digg.com http://www.aqua-soft...owthread.php?t=17372

looks to me like the best desklet icon thingy program there is - or if it isn't now, it soon will be.

for those of you who like a pure clean desktop then you aren't going to be too impressed but i hope you can see the potential this little program offers.

AndreasV, has developed a fantastic program - and he accepts donations for all his hard work.

i've not read the complete post on the aqua-soft forum as i've been playing around with 'Avedesk' as you'll see from the screengrab below...

on a more serious note, Avedesk will allow you to:

upload files via ftp simply by dropping items onto its desktop 'desklet' ftp icon

create 'sticky' desktop notes

set shortcuts to programs

set shortcuts to folders

and even speak text when dragging and dropping text onto it's 'speak' desklet

i wouldn't be surprised if more features are added soon. at the moment there are plenty of effects and settings you can set for each 'desklet' item, i.e. transparency, mouse over animations, etc.

there is also a newer version (1.3) to try http://avedesk.needlemen.com/

Thank you sooo much!
I love these widget things, but they're always big fat monsters taking half of my computer's little memory.
But avedesk is very clean, not resource-consuming at all (1.4 physical memory.. i like it! :D) and looks good!
Now i have a nice, big sticky on my desktop with a few things to remember ;)
Good post!

yep, that's often the problem with this tools. I installed samurize (www.samurize.com) some times ago, which is as i believe "the old bull". There are really a lot of desklets and it is nice looking, but of course it costs constantly cpu time.

Isn't that the standard size of icons on Vista? :P

128x128 is the default size if you have a high-res monitor, otherwise you get like 100x100 (something in that range, maybe 96x96?)

Yeah, and those numbers translate to: SMURFIN' HUGE! Even on a 1280x1024 resolution!

One of the first things I did when I installed Vista was find out how to make the icons small again...
Then how to turn off UAC...
Then how to revert back to XP.
:P

Okay, so I'm exaggerating on the icon size by a little. And I liked Vista but I didn't like some of my programs not working with it. The thing that broke the camel's back to get me to revert back to XP was actually a false impression: I thought something was wrong with the video drivers because sirens would go off when I was playing games. Turns out my CPU fan was dying and the sirens were telling me that either the temperature was too high or the CPU fan was spinning too slowly.

But I reverted nearly a year ago and I just realized about the failing CPU fan within the past couple months. Imagine my displeasure of going through a format, then waiting so I could take my computer to my parents (who live about 150 miles away) so I could plug in a stupid, arcane, obsolete floppy drive to the system to get it to recognize my SATA drivers to do the XP install, only to find out that the sirens weren't going away. (Though they didn't show up immediately.)

I love the 128x128 icon size- my desktop icons are all set to that ("Large icons"). The 256x256, however, are insane. But cool. But insane.

[offtopic] I had that CPU emergency alert siren too, when my heatsink/fan wasn't touching the CPU- my PC checked at boot, and would shutdown immediately thereafter, though [/offtopic]

Doesn't seem AveDesk works on Vista? It wouldn't open any desklets for me...they were in the list, but only the translator (and tutorial) opened (and wouldn't open after I closed it).

Oh well, Sidebar will do for now. :(

Will this program work on Windows XP?  I didn't find anything on their site that showed requirements for the OS.   :(

I'm pretty sure the screen shot in the original post is in XP.
