Do you think adding optional image saving support to CHS should be a top priority?

Yes, CHS needs to be able to save clipboard images, i can't live without this
5 (29.4%)
It would be nice to have but it's not that important to me
10 (58.8%)
I'm a CHS text purist, i don't need a clipboard tool to save images and waste space

glad to hear it's so useful to you.

Again, that's from my own usage, not necessarily a thing of moment for the overall user base

normal text clips have an optional "title" field -- i could make that title visible in clip mode too so users could customize the title.

mouser, that would be near ideal for me.  Don't know that it would be worth the effort, though, for most users.  While it would be a nice embellishment, it might not be worth the trouble ;).

that's easy enough to do.
though note that it won't "prompt" you to enter a title each time you copy an image, but it would let you add titles to image clips.  is that really going to be useful?  maybe i could change filename to title too.

I can see that being useful.
For years I have kept data in a clipboard manager; searching for it by name would be useful (image and text).

And another request for the stack operations. Would it be possible to have an audible cue with set/clear stack marker?

i could add -- a full screen/window gallery of all thumbnails in the current group/entire database.

Speaking for myself, I don't think I'd need that.

interesting stuff going on here  :)

So my question is, is this something people think is important to have an option for -- an option to size menu thumbnails for clips to preserve their aspect ratios?

this could certainly be helpful, but could be a PIA in terms of space used in the quick-paste list [=undecided]

I could see myself using this (but more if vector support were introduced) - the thumbnails would definitely need to be proportional here (to original clip).

So, I guess that's a +3/4 :p

EDIT/ where's the link for the most recent beta?
is it still here (bottom of page 1 of this thread) if so, I'm okay

A minor warning to users of the beta -- it's quite likely certain i will change some things about how clip images are presented/titled/etc, so don't spend time creating image clips that you want to be permanent in your collection just yet.

For example, I am now changing it so that the caption for image clip menu items is taken directly from the editable clip "Title", which will from now on be initialized by default to what it is now ("From APPNAME - WIDTHxHEIGHT (SIZEkb)").  In this way you will be able to edit the title of clip images manually later to give them custom menu captions.

New beta version is up with the changes to image clip titles/menu captions.
(note that older clip images will show "incorrect" titles/captions, but that you can now edit image clip titles to customize them).

New minor update uploaded with options for preserving aspect ratio of clips in menu, plus some minor bug fixes.

options for preserving aspect ratio of clips in menu
-mouser

Forgive me, I don't quite see where this toggles to affect the popup menu. Can you shine light into my mental darkness?

Also, in the viewer pane, the "100%" toggle there works wonderfully but always says "100%". Depending on the size of the pane and the size of the clip there are cases where one can't see at a glance which way it is set. For me, the "100%" implies a state rather than just a label

At the same time, may I say that I really like what you are doing with CH+S and very much appreciate the extra work you've been putting into it! For those of us with a need for this kind of thing it can save quite a lot of time and petty annoyance. Additionally, it serves as a fast "poor man's history" when successive captures are made of sequential steps in image editing (this is where grabbing additional clipboard information would really come into play some time in the future).

Thanks again for all that you're doing!

Ok try the latest beta, see if it's better now.

As for the aspect ratio, capture a really tall and thin, and a short and wide image to clipboard, then try changing between "preserve" and "full stretch" (option is in quick paste popup tab) as you show the quick paste popup menu.

Here's what you should see:

Preserve Aspect Ratio:

Minor Stretch:

Full Stretch:

That's excellent, thanks!

Had tried the tall-thin/short-wide but I'm damned if I can find "preserve" or "full stretch". So, please, humiliate me and point out where they are.  :wallbash:

Judgment reserved on whether you're the sharpest tool in the shed  :D ... but no one who punishes as well as do you could ever be considered dull  :P.

one thing i want to remind people in case you missed it in the video -- you can edit a clip image file (press the edit button on toolbar), and the edited clip image be the new image used on subsequent pasting.

can anyone think of other features that would be useful for image clips?

With all this image stuff, I figured it was time to pretty-up the other items in the quick paste menu (note also that the clip groups show their proper icons as well):

As is normal in (my) life, just when you introduce the feature that I've most wanted — did I ever mention that? — I'm so buried under other stuff that I can't give it a proper work out.  :(

You may assume, however, that as soon as you turn your attention elsewhere I'll be baaack,  :-[

For the nonce, it has crossed my mind on a number of occasions that a toggle to pass the clips directly to an(other) editor could be very useful. Of course, this comes very close to ScreenShot Captor, incurring the kind of feature creep about which Superticker was concerned. If implemented, I'd imagine it working rather like the set stack option.

What was your thought on my request for an audible alert (option) for stack on/off?

i will add another sound that can be played when doing certain actions like stack operations.

Then we're all having fun together

a toggle to pass the clips directly to an(other) editor could be very useful

can you explain how this would work?

Sometimes, working in one graphics program, I prefer to jump out to another.
So, say:
I'm in Photoshop
Set output editor in CH+S to something else
Set (theoretical) automatic "send clip to" toggle on
Clip something/some part
Fiddle with clip in something else, then save
... repeat as required
Set (theoretical) "send clip to" toggle off
Reset output editor to default

Or
In Photoshop
Keep output editor as Photoshop
Set (theoretical) automatic "send clip to" toggle on (this sends the clip to a new window in Photoshop; lazy, or what?)
Fiddle with clip in new window then save
... repeat as required
Set (theoretical) "send clip to" toggle off

In other words, it's just firing repeated clips into an editor of choice, activated by the simple act of clipping.
I'm aiming for a series of 'clips' each one of which has been amended.

I'm shooting from the lip here — can this be done already?
