Cannot change DC avatar to new uploaded picture.

I stumbled upon a glitch on the site. I cannot seem to upload a new picture to be my avatar. I can browse to a new picture but when I hit save profile it doesn't swap for the new one. I can switch to a predefined avatar but when I switch back to upload I get the same old avatar again. What am I doing wrong?

I think I ran into a similar issue which someone then pointed out so I could actually pick my hat as my icon. Make sure it has a good extension and isn't huge in either size or dimensions.

Since we mucked around with the avatar folders recently it's possible i messed something up.  Can someone else test and confirm whether they can upload a new custom avatar or not?

I can confirm this problem.

I tried uploading an avatar image (see attachment) I also use elsewhere, but it fails without error message.

I'm having a very hard time reproducing this error -- it seems to work fine when i try it with any permutation.
Can someone else try it, or i'll try to catch house when he tries it next and see if i can watch the forum error log while it's happening and get a better clue as to what is going wrong.

Thats weird. I just noticed that my avatar is now changed without me doing anything. I could be that after I changed it there was a delay in the change but my old avatar picture was defiantly visible when I logged off last night. I will try again with video and see if I can replicate it.

I think that's the mystery solved -- it's a cache issue.

The new changes to the way forum avatars are stored and displayed means that the avatar for a particular user will always be the url:
https://www.donation...rs/avatar_USERID.png

So when you upload a new avatar, unlike before you will not get a different filename for your avatar, it will merely overwrite the contents of your old image.

So it's very likely that you will see your cached older image until the browser refreshes it.

That explains it. I was wondering why you were complaining about it not working when it appeared to have worked for me.
I've been seeing your (alivingspirit and housetier) current avatars since you first posted in this thread

Yes that does explain everything. When I last posted I was on my work computer so I saw my new avatar on the page. When I came back to my home computer I still saw the old images. I cleared my cache and got the new images. I am using Firefox 4 beta if anyone is curious.
