The only other option I can immediately think of is Mediafire, kind of a pain, but tracking, free, ad supported, and No limits on anything

Let me do some homework

IF and only IF a secondary server is necessary, I'd suggest using C-Net. They have very fast servers and we will get a download count (but no other useful statistics).

Interesting that there's a percentage of downloads coming from the temporary web site I put up on dcmembers.

The Redmine????

I have been advertising this as well for the code site, so there are those that will pay attention to it!

I have an account through Download.com that I use for Rainmeter as a developer, I can get CD in as well takes about a week for approval

The Redmine????

That's a possibility, I guess. Netcraft tells me that the Redmine site is on a different server but the domain is owned by Donationcoder, so that would be mouser's call.

That said, there is an even simpler solution, in theory at least. As the language and image files account for roughly 70% of the download size, it might be better to remove them from the base install and make them an installable option. Those language and image files would remain on the server and would be downloaded only if the user needs them at install time. There is a download manager included with Inno Setup (which I use to prepare the installer) so this shouldn't be much of a problem.

I can also look into using something like WyUpdate which would "phone home" at user-specified intervals and download just those files that have changed since the previous update.

All these measures should effectively reduce the Gigabytage downloaded whilst keeping the number of users at a steady (or rising) level.

8mb is not such a big file.  I don't think you should worry about any of that for now.. Let's just see how it goes for a while.

Here's a serious suggestion:

For such a beautiful looking tool, the webpage for Circle Dock is beyond ugly.. it's almost deliberately 1980s bad.

Don't get me wrong, the web page is functional and organized well -- just looks a bit odd.

Time for someone to revamp the look of that in Circle Dock style, with a nice screenshot on the front and maybe a quick link to some youtube videos?

I do not know much about the page, but you are right, but Markham has put work there to be sure, as I have been working on the Wikidot page.

Videos are coming, via Youtube and Vimeo (I finally got their permission to proceed..Yea!!!)

Screen shots will not be an issue in the near future.
I am working on a whole slew of them when time presents itself

Well, all I can say is that I know as much about web site design, HTML and all that stuff as can be printed on the back of a postage stamp! In fact, all that are Dark Arts as far as I'm concerned!

However, at the time I made it, the Wikidot site was hopelessly out of date and the Sarge was not at all confident that we'd be able to take-over that page. As I have a copy of FrontPage, I used one of its templates to put something together. Eighties Retro? More like fifties or sixties!  :D

On a more serious note, one thing is for sure. The word about Circle Dock is spreading like wildfire and pages, similar to the LifeHacker review, are springing-up all over the globe. Pages like this one (you'll need to scroll-down a bit), this Turkish page (Turkish is one of the new languages added for v1),
the Italian sites include this review and there's this American site. That is a small random selection of recently-added review pages about Circle Dock!

You guys are back down a bit from your insane amount of traffic, to a merely gigantic number of about 14gb of bandwidth yesterday.  That's still a huge number.

nice one guys. Glad it's been resurrected :) It's by far the best method of opening shortcuts ever invented.
It's always the 1st software i install on my machines (with xmousebuttoncontrol) and i really wouldn't want to be in front of my pc 24/7 without it.
The funny thing is, rainmeter is right up there with circledock so i'm seeing Sgtevmckay's name everywhere i look :)

Thanks again for all your work. I'm not surprised how much support it has gained, you should all be really proud :)

Thanks!

Umm, you don't need "xmousebuttoncontrol" any more to toggle Circle Dock's visibility - both X1 and X2 mouse buttons are fully supported in v1 :).

I can offer up 2 mirrors of decent speed and large bandwidth allowances. Just let me know, I can put up a mirror quite quickly. And I can stick it on a subdomain so we can track DL stats separately for it.

Also, I agree with Mouser that redesigning the website is a good idea. Should probably become a priority sooner than later. Unfortunately I can't help with that, but I imagine there would be a kind DC-er around here who could and would...

Sounds like an insane amount of bandwidth usage :o

You're sure that it's all from users actively downloading CircleDock, and not webspiders/whatever erroneously grabbing it, perhaps because of missing "nofollow" or mime types or whatever?

:) no individual application setting tho. I use the middle mouse via a keyboard command and give the middlemouse button functions back to apps like firefox, kmplayer, gfx stuff etc.

I am glad to hear that you are working with both Circle Dock and Rainmeter...It is a thrill and an honor  ;D

:) Cheers, in my eyes they are indispensable along with Winroll.

Inabit, and thanks again guys
