Top Greasemonkey userscripts that you use

so, where is the script for updating my scripts? 

- without such a script feature, I cannot be too impressed with Greasemonkey itself.

Each script author is responsible for including code in their script for auto-updating. I have a couple scripts I run that auto-update themselves, but most do not.

But being at a coder's site, one must ask if there is anything "we" can do to add such a code, if it is missing?

Most of the frequently (recently) updated scripts contain code to notify you of updates. The Download From YouTube script april mentioned is a good example.

Still, I can't quite understand how lack of an automatic update feature makes GreaseMonkey itself any less impressive, many scripts don't require such functionality at all (autocomplete on, linkify, tinyurl decoder etc).

Facebook Fixer, Inline Google Player, Yuosable TubeFix, Anti-Disabler, YouTube HD Suite, Add The "I'm Feeling Lucky" Button, and Google Tracking-B-Gone, are my scripts. At least three of these seven needs regular updating.

I used to have a couple more scripts, regarding Google and YouTube, but they were not updated, and lost their effect. The same thing will eventually happen to some of those that I have now - Google and YouTube are changing the codes very often.

Facebook Fixer

I installed Facebook Fixer only yesterday, and already it I am going to remove it because of lack of updates... so to speak. It shows both wrong birthdays and zodiac signs.
Has anyone else the same problem?

Not really a GreaseMonkey script per se but almost as good:

GreaseFire

When you visit a web page that has compatible user scripts on Userscripts.org, this extension will highlight the Greasemonkey icon in the status bar. Right click the Greasemonkey icon and choose the "X scripts available" item to see and install the scripts available for the current page.

I've picked up some interesting site specific scripts using it.

NOTE: You'll probably need to override compatibility to install in FireFox 3.5+ but it still works.

This would be great if there was a way to mark scripts it has found as "not interested" and them not to be shown again when you visit that site in the future. That way you would know about new scripts and not have to check each time you visit and sift through what could be a huge list on some sites.

For example, it shows me stuff when on DC that wouldn't be very useful because of the content of this forum isn't what would be intended for the script. (there is one specific to a certain type of movie forums running on smf) I don't want to see that every time I visit DC, but if there was anything new, I'd love to see that instead.

@Curt: Yes. I use Textarea Backup, from userscripts.org. Seems to work unfailingly, and well.
There are more scripts there of the same/similar name, but this one has over 58,000 downloads, so has presumably been found to work well by lotsa people.

Script Summary: Removes ads and unwanted sections (configurable), allows downloading and resizing videos, changes the default video quality, expands the description and the video size, can prevent autoplay and autobuffering, etc...

I recommend not updating Greasemonkey at the moment. Version 1.6 has given my Waterfox annoying delays and "does not answer". When I disabled Greasemoneky, the problem disappeared.

The GreaseMonkey scripts I'm using, ("GoogleMonkeyR" and "I don't want to Install Google Chrome" only added from IainB' mention above, along with the Stylish scripts.

I don't actually use Google much these days so it remains to be seen how useful those two new scripts will be.



One particularly handy addon that's GreaseMonkey related: GreaseFire, (which I mentioned earlier in the thread).

Me too. I found NoSquint worked better for me than Winkie.
I also added flux, which seems to help.
