Oversized icons when using large icon setting (DPI)
« on: April 11, 2009, 08:14 PM »
as can be seen on the screenshot, Farr crops the icons when using the 'large icon' icon setting for the desktop. is there a way to make Farr to display the icons normally?

I tried resizing the icons on my desktop from 32 to 48 pixels and farr displays them normal. Did I misunderstand you somehow?

am i the only one with this problem?

seems not -- this thread just got revived:
https://www.donation...index.php?topic=9008

i'll have a look this weekend on a virtual machine and see what i can find. it's HOPEFULLY a simple fix.

let's move that discussion of icon sizes to this thread.

one question:

do people want:
  • FARR to use bigger icons (and thus larger row sizes)
  • FARR to use 32x32 icons like it normally does, and not crop.

my personal preference is for Farr to continue display in 32x32 regardless of the desktop icon size but i believe that it's better if both of the options are implemented and leave the choice to the users.. :)

Mouser,

32x32 would be easier to do I guess, but If we also had an option for 48x48, we could fit in 4 lines / labels to the description area, might be useful for some of us. Either ways works for me

Thanks for the wonderfully prompt support!

ok just download new version from same url (not updated the updater version), and try it:

https://www.donation...AndRunRobotSetup.exe

NOTE: you will have to exit and restart after changing the option about showing superlarge rows vs. rescaling.

I just upgraded to FARR v2.59.01 from v 2.55.xx and now the icons are cropped. Since later FARR updates are related to this topic chances are the problem is related.
crop.png
The grey area is covered result titles/path. The icon cutoff is done by FARR not me.

when I change program options > settings > display options > results display style from Large to Small then there is no icon cropping. So only in Large mode.

what if you change to 32x32 mode in options (and restart farr after).

but i found something else, Farr shows the icon at 32x32 despite the setting at 48x48. note: in this case, the desktop icon is not set to 'large icons' and have restarted Farr as well.

that's normal -- this setting only affects the MAXIMUM icon size, and if large icons are not enabled in system then you will get 32x32.
it only kicks in when system icons are in large mode.

i didn't know that. :) this means i can happily report that there is no cropping issues on my PC right now. though i do wish that in large-icon mode, the numbers are more aligned to their respective icons (see large icon pic above).

i should be able to fix that -- do you want them top aligned or center aligned?

I get non-cropped icons if I activate program options > settings > display options > report columns > SlideNum.
But as soon as I deactivate it (since I don't want the numbers) the cropping is back.
Can someone else reproduce that with 2.59.01?

when you unchecked the 'SlideNum' in 'Report Columns', is the 'Results Display Style' still on 'Large Icon Slides'? if so, try to change to 'Small Icon Report', it might help.
