Process Manager for Windows - use fewer clicks
« on: November 11, 2008, 08:21 PM »
a slightly different and a faster way to change the priority of a process and to end a process. :Thmbsup:

working with "Process Manager for Windows":
1. Right click in the task bar over any application
2. There are two new options added here "Change Priority" and "Kill", simply click the intended priority or kill the process

Obviously not freeware, and a bit heavier (@5MB RAM when minimized to tray), but Anvir Task Manager Pro adds the same functionality to the context menu of the taskbar and to the title bar of any application.

Process Manager for Windows looks nice and the price is right  :Thmbsup:

Thanks for sharing it with us, Lanux!

you're welcome, Darwin. i like the way how he has hooked these features into the system-menu of a program. i wish this could be done with Autohotkey. :)

I've just realised that DM2 offers some of this functionality (allows you to set process priority but does not offer a "kill" feature) as well - so there's another free option. Note, too, that Anvir Task Manager Pro also lacks the "kill" process option from the context menu... so it's functionality is identical in this regard as that of DM2.

i got Anvir Task Manager Pro from GAOTD recently but as you mentioned it's quite heavy and feels a bit overbearing.

btw, the author of this tiny tool is planning on some updates and this is the time to forward any suggestions.

@Darwin
    (5MB RAM when minimized to tray  )
     Did you mean that for "Process Manager for windows" or for "Anvir Task Manager Pro" ?
     I downloaded both  "Process Manager for Windows" is always around 1 MB.

@lanux128
     Thanks for sharing. Yes you are right we should forward our suggestion.
     I have found if you right click on the process manager icon in the tray , there is an option "Request Feature".
     your link http://processpriority.wiki.sourceforge.net/
     had a link to author's blog too, which was quite interesting, he writes why he created this utility.
     Looks like he is like me who hate windows  :down:, but can't avoid it :o.

Sorry - Anvir Task Manager Pro sits at around 5MB when idle in my tray. OK *was* sitting at around 5MB... it's up to 11MB at the moment, but it did just throttle back SpySweeper's CPU usage. I don't find it too heavy, really, considering all the functionality that it provides.

had planned to post this earlier, this program had been updated to include more features but the new features can hidden if not being used. a very sensible move to keep the system menu uncluttered. among the new features are:

• Always on top.
• Hide any application. to unhide, right-click on the PM icon in tray and select the hidden app.
• Hide Others - hide all other applications other than the current window.
• Minimize to system tray.
• Transparency.

btw if the sourceforge page is down, other download links can be found from the author's blog.

@ lanux; I have only managed to find links for version 1.0, not for 1.6
Are there any problems with the version 1.6.192 he uploaded, or...?

Download ( this link will be activated soon, before you are back form Christmas vacation)

Here is one thing I would love to see. If process explorer had it, it would be complete in my eyes, and that is the ability to highlight multiple processes and choose KILL, thus killing all processes in one foul swoop as opposed to having to manually click each one and kill it.

maybe this could help in the interim.
