Links to Review and Comments - Add yours!
« on: November 09, 2005, 06:39 PM »
I want to start a thread for all of our application sections with pointers to review and software listing sites that accept reviews.

So users can visit to read more opinions about our programs, and most importantly so that our users can easily go and leave their comments for others to read!

Mouser, the Fileforum page has an old version number and even older screenshot; it maybe worth updating...

Just a suggestion for FARR (and other softwares) : would it be possible to have the main window open up as soon as one single left-click on the tray icon ?  Currently it's RMB + select corresponding menu item.  I know there is a keyboard shortcut, but when one want to keep the hand on the mouse, it's a plus.

MerleOne: You can double-click the tray icon and farr will come up.
I think it's better for you to do one more click, than changing that and going against the default behaviour of tray icons. I hate it when they are activated by only one click (like flashget...  >:()

I actually would like this as well. At least it could be an option. What is the point of not reacting to a click on the tray?

in this case i have to side with jgpaiva that double click to launch should be default, but i suppose i could add single click as an option.

however i must point out that farr is made for keyboard freaks, and the idea of having to use your mouse to launch it is heresy!  :'(

Thanks for the reply.  I agree normal behaviour is double click, but for some apps that are used quite often, single clic is better IMHO.  If you could add this as an option that would be great !

Find and Run Robot is featured in this month's issue of PCM, a large PC magazine in The Netherlands! I thought it was worth a separate topic so I posted it here!

Hi,

DCM posted here:

I wish FARR could search WordPerfect, Word and .pdf files like CopernicDesktopSearch (the later uses too much ressources imo). Wishful thinking?

Ideas to improve the usability:
1. pause searching when pressing "alt" or "ctrl" or "shift". The correct program won't ran away when u are going to launch it.
2. I found that drag and drop for the first item is not working but the others are fine... is that a bug?

I hope my ideas helpful =]

The best way to show my true feelings is through the use of smilies:

Really nice job sri and it's cool that you went so far to create and share your own aliases.  Actually that's what i was going to add -- rather than have them paste your created aliases into theirs, FARR v2 was specifically designed to facilitate alias sharing, and so the better way to do this is for you to go to your myaliases.alias file in the FARR directory and upload that file for people to download.  Just upload it with a different name like sri.alias and instruct others to download it and put it in their FARR subdirectory Aliases\Installed.  After that they can restart FARR and have all the aliases you've created.

Really nice job sri

And sorely needed, because there's so much in and around FARR now that it's quite left me behind...

FARR was highlighted today in the "Tips and Reviews" newsletter I get from PC World

http://www.pcworld.c...on.html?tk=nl_ptxdwn

Reviewer Laura Blackwell gave it a nice write up. :)
We are at the very beginning of time for the human race. It is not unreasonable that we grapple with problems. But there are tens of thousands of years in the future. Our responsibility is to do what we can, learn what we can, improve the solutions, and pass them on.

I found a comparison review of FARR w/ Launchy and couple other apps at http://www.pcmech.co...ind-programs-easily/

Of the four programs included in this roundup, Find and Run Robot was my clear winner. It simply did it all without any hiccups.

2/3s of a page feature in August issue of PC World by Laura Blackwell (pg 76).  It may be the same as the write up in the newsletter that has been mentioned, but in the print form it will get more exposure.

I've used Slickrun for a long time but after trying FARR for a couple of days I can't stop myself from just hitting the Break key to reopen a folder or whatnot.

Anyway, I posted my high opinion of your app on Softpedia.  Should show up in a day or 2.

Hi,

In the past I used Launchy but I have an old computer with not much Ram and so indexing bothered me.
Then I switched to Keybreeze but it was not very practically in my opionion.

But then I read this http://lifehacker.co...for+windows-showdown yesterday and I fell in love with FARR.

Although it will be hard work to configure it and figure out all the features I'm looking forward to it.

Thank you mouser.
