Way back in 2005, DC member m_s told us about an incredibly beautiful and charming flash hunt-and-click adventure game called Samarost.  Samarost 2 is easily still one of the best and most charming flash games of its kind.

The developers have released a few follow ups which have all been good.  Now comes word they are working on a full sized commercial adventure game called Machinarium set to be released in early 2009.

There is a video preview on the site and it does definitely has that samarost2 look and feel.  Can't wait!

Cool, I was wondering what happened with it. Adventure games will rise up from the tomb and take the world by storm! (or something :P)

I'm particularly impressed with the music and sound effects. Goes perfectly with that weird but oddly familiar artwork.

I think they did this one too:

That game got me to buy their music album back in 2005. :)

Yeah, I must admit I liked Polyphonic Spree too. There's a certain innocent quality to their work that seems to have disappeared in contemporary pop music. Makes me think of the the early Beatles combined with some early progressive rock groups (Jade Warrior, Camel? Dennis Greenslade?) with just a pinch of The Kinks thrown in for good measure.

Not cool. Not sophisticated. Maybe not even especially original.

But still an enjoyable group to listen to. There's even a hint of eye-candy up on stage. How can you go wrong?

I just downloaded the demo on Steam. I haven't tried it yet, but I'm about to.

Also, if you pre-order the game you can get 25% off. ($15 instead of $20)

The game has been released. After I played the demo I decided to buy it.

This is the second time in my life I actually buy a computer game. I like to play games with my computer, but so far I have only played the free ones (except, for Rise of the Triad which I bought and excessively played back then).

Let's see if the 15 EUR were worth it :)

recently mentioned at Download Squad as one of the "five awesome Steam games that make great gifts". considering that i already have the other three (except for Trine), i'm going to download the demo for Machinarium to see how it fares.
