Anatolie: Looks like a good start to me... is this your first complete website?

The good bits...
  • Good to see that you've used CSS for the rollovers rather than Javascript.
  • Does the job of promoting your product nicely.
  • I like the favicon :)
  • Works well in IE6, IE7, FF2 and Opera.

Could be better...
  • You've not added meta tag for keywords on the subpages.
  • The page is written as HTML but the DOCTYPE declares the page as xHTML Strict - this causes lots (32) errors when I try to validate the site.
  • Your LI list items are not enclosed in a UL unordered list block.
  • Try to avoid using <p align="right"> - instead use CSS.

Good job so far - get the DOCTYPE sorted and fix the small HTML issues and it will be spot on!

Really nice site: fast loading, and good looking. Fine work!

At the comments box, though, your visitors might want to be assured their email address is not displayed to the public, before daring to make a comment.

But being at DonationCoder I have to point to the free ShutdownNow (press F12, no confirmation), by our very own jgpaiva, or even to his Shutdown.

Edit: But your's is most certainly better looking:

Isn't it dangerous to have Windows shut down with a single keypress?  Seems like you could accidentally shut down when you didn't want to.

Also, couldn't you just add a Desktop Shortcut to shut down Windows?

I'm and my friends tested it about month... and no random presses :)
I think It depends to person... :)

Shutdown utilities with Desktop Shortcuts already exists, but may be I shall add this feature to next version.

In my opinion, main features is simplicity, speed and fun 'POWER OFF' message  ;)

- yes and no, but mostly No...
I have been using F12 since 11-11 last year, and the only unwanted shutdown was when the neighbour's cat stepped all over my keyboard, so I will say it is fairly safe. But that may also be because I never have used Scroll Lock for it's original purpose - whatever that may be!

Another thing, though, is, that Scroll Lock may be a far better button than F12. Since November I have had to uncheck hotkey activated features in more than one program because they wanted to use F12, but never have a program wanted to use Scroll Lock - at least nothing will happen if I press that button. So I might actually decide to swift to this $12 Power Off Key of Anatolie's, in order to reclaim lost features!

Too slow to press Windows-D and then click.

If you're life is so packed you need to shave seconds off of a shut down I say, try the decaf  :)

I guess it depnds on the user.  I use a laptop and keys are all kinda close.  Combine that with coding in the dark late at night and sometimes keys get pressed that shouldn't - explains alot of my code  :)

Welcome!
Any suggestions will be nice!
 :)

As far as websites go.  Its clean, neat and easy to understand.

Quick glance at the code and that's very nice.  Just need to close the img tag - since you are trying top validate to XHTML 1.0 strict.

This:
<img class="boxshot" src="img/boxshot.jpg">

Should be:
<img class="boxshot" src="img/boxshot.jpg" alt="boxshot" />

A very simple solution is to use Shutdown from http://www.rjlsoftwa...re/utility/shutdown/ which is a simpler command line than the one built into Windows.

All you need to do is copy the exe file you downloaded to a folder somewhere (say C:\SHUTDOWN)

Create a file using Notepad called MYSHUTDOWN.bat with a single line in it, something like:

C:\SHUTDOWN\SHUTDOWN.EXE 4 FORCE

and save the file in your C:\SHUTDOWN folder

In the command line 4 forces a system restart and the option FORCE parameter makes Windows shutdown and running tasks/processes that don't shutdown properly.

Now create a shortcut to your MYSHUTDOWN.BAT folder (it can be in the C:\SHUTDOWN folder if you like) and in the shortcut properties choose the shortcut key you want to use to execute the shortcut.

The file is easily editable and you can use any shortcut you like.

I have attached a zip file that has all this setup as described. Just unpack it to C:\SHUTDOWN

I have setup CTRL + ALT + END as the force restart key - the MYSHUTDOWN and the shorcut properties are easily editable.
* SHUTDOWN.zip (90.24 kB - downloaded 287 times.)

Edit: I must of course tell that I have not tried Carol's solution.

Curt: When I written this program I spend about

  - 30 minutes for write HotKey and shutdown function,
  - 5 days for 'POWER OFF' message ;),
  - 2 days to write .manifest for vista :(
  - 1 day to create install package
  - 1 month to test

Most difficult to me was an adaptation for vista :( Examples at msdn was wrong etc...

May be it's not suitable for others...
You may test It for yourself. I like message 'POWER OFF' ;)

No.  Client paid for the design.  I would not want anyone taking a design I worked very hard on.
