yet another image/photo editor and batch processor
« on: January 10, 2008, 06:17 AM »
Hello everyone,

I'd like to let you know that an application for photo retouching and batch processing developed by me and my brother has reached a beta stage and is available for download to anyone. The beta build will expire in 2009 and can be used for any legal purposes.

How does it differ from the rest of the crowd?

  • It can perform lossless JPEG operations - rotations, crops, canvas extensions, modifications like watermarking or red eye or scratch removing. Completely transparently - user needs to know nothing about it.
  • Powerful scripting+batch processing - use JavaScript to design your own operations - it is possible to use the native filters and drawing tools from scripts.
  • Extremely open interface - almost everything in the application is a plug-in, for example a drawing tool is a plug-in and any programmer can create their own drawing tool and integrate it - there are no internal hacks, everything that the built-in tools can do can also be done by a plug-in. And more...

I am looking for people to test the application and recommend improvements and also for people who would wish to develop a plug-in. While the final version will most likely not be open source, the core will be released as freeware and the goal is to have the most easily extensible and customizable image editor on the planet with no strings attached.

Enjoy,
Vlasta

this alone sounds very good/different

Retouch a .jpg image without losing quality

RealWorld Photos is able to perform lossless and partially lossless modifications to jpeg images. If only a small portion of an image is modified, which is typical when scratches are removed from a photograph or when a watermark is added, RealWorld Photos will keep the rest of the image exactly as it was by copying the unchanged regions from the source image without decoding and re-encoding them.

Just installed and trying it now... A great photo editor for quick edits and effects. Any chance this application will remain free after the 2009 beta cut off point? Nice job by the developers.

Glad you like it.

There will be a free version, but it might have some limitations. It is still to early to say what. We want to keep is as free as possible, but this is not a weekend project and takes a lot of time. Still, if it becomes popular, there might be alternative way how to make some money off it than just selling licenses.

maybe free and reasonably priced versions :)

is there a forum there for it? or do people contact you by email if there's bugs?

I've used the RealWorld Cursor Editor recently and that was a nice experience
(this one is called RealWorld Photos 2007.1 beta)
looking forward to trying it

email is good and there is a link to a simple support forum in the application Help menu or on the "Online" page (http://www.rw-designer.com/forum/images)

There are a couple of improvements in the raster editor since RW Cursor Editor - mainly selections, Brush, Clone, Retouch tools and much better scripting. (and of course the batch mode)
