DONE: Minimize all other windows but the active one
« on: October 06, 2005, 02:55 PM »
I like the idea behind Ghoster, but instead of dimming the other windows, I would rather have them minimized.

Thanks!

:) I thought this one would be simple, but there's all kinds of things to watch, so just test it and let me know if it works out.

MinimOther - Minimize all windows except the one active.

Feautures:
- Won't minimize dialog boxes.

You'll find the downloads and more info at Skrommel Software.

The biggest problem is how to handle dialogboxes - minimize them and the dissappear, or they lock up the parent app. Maybe I'll put in ShowDialogsToo so they can be recovered.

Sorry its been so long on the reply.  I'm testing it now.  Takes a bit of getting used to, but I'm enjoying it so far. Thank you so much for coding this!

A nice option would be to have it restore the last active application if the current one is closed.  Not sure how possible that is. Sweet app!

Thanks skrommel for MinimOther :-)
I am enjoying using it along with Visual Tooltip (which shows window thumbnails as you move the cursor over the taskbar) : http://chsalmon.club.fr/index.html

I have notice that by minimizing all the windows I get more memory (I already use freeram XP pro, a lot of service in windows xp turn off and of course bblean to get more memory), i remember with windows 3.1 there was a feature that when i ran a program all the rest would be minimized. I use SystemBarEx and it has a Minimize All that i have to do manually (i also have bbkey to minimize all). So i asked around if there was a program that has this feature to minimize all the windows except the working one and they suggested MinimOther v1.1.
Sadly its not exactly what i need, because it only gets the first window that was active maximize and the rest ALWAYS minimized. What i want is any window that i activated (thru the task bar or blackbox tasks, etc..) the rest is all minimized. Can you help?

I've got it to work, it was one of my programs that made it work bad. The is still some problems, for exemple, i like my active window maximize (have a small monitor 800x600) and sometimes changing programs it restores the window and not go back to maximize. But this isn't that bad, what isn't working is if i do a manual minimize i get more memory and with this program the memory doesn't change, its like its not really a minimize, any ideia?

MinimOther doesn't like 'ThumbWin' at all - total system freezes are common, but it works with MiniMIZE. I think this app is great, but it makes it impossible to drag files between windows, which is a dealbreaker. What would be good (and maybe a completely different app) would be a titlebar button to exclude a window from MinimOther.

I love MinimOther, but for some programs (NoteTab is a good example) the program is minimzed but there a couple of programs that refuse to play nice.

NoteTab leaves a tab visible in the lower left corner of the screen (my menu bar is hidden -- if the menu bar was not hidden, it would hide the NoteTab tab).

FlashFXP refuses to expand back to normal. When I alt-tab to FlashFXP, it just shows the tab in the lower left corner without restoring the window.

Otherwise it's a great program.
