cool: a wp plugin to make a WP blog look like a forum

http://www.fahlstad....wp-plugins/wp-forum/

Advantage: you can integrate blog users and forum users (no need for 2 signups).

No idea about performance or support. This might be necessarily not as good as an specialized solution such as SMF.

Thoughts?

More info:
  • Optional registration for posting and searching.
  • Mark threads as solved
  • Administrated through WP-admin.
  • Uses WordPress database for registration and users.
  • Spam words filter option. (Optional). The spam filter option gets the spam words from WordPress’s own spam filter and words can be added in the WordPress admin -> option -> disscussion.
  • PHP 4 compability.
  • Moderator can be set individually for every forum.
  • Supports BBCode. (Optional)

Another issue might be security. How easy is this forum to spam?
I can envision a nice CMS system based on WP; that makes management a breeze... and the thing is very portable too (if you ever need to change hosting).

I like it!

Round peg. Square hole.

You have general purpose tools like Joomla, PHPNuke, etc. if you want something that is integrated. If you want integrated, that is the best route to go. The only reason to choose WordPress or PHPbb over an integrated solution is because you want a best of breed tool, or something that is at least focused and thus more full featured in the desired area. So using a screwdriver to pound nails can be done but why would you want to.

Now, integration of best of breed tools is a different thing all together (or should I say different things all together  :P ). There is a reason to do that in that you get the benefits of best of breed with a means of working between them. In that case the effort required is worth the payoff.
