Help! My computer has lost the hibernation feature!
« on: September 18, 2007, 05:32 PM »
I have no idea why, but after installing all drivers from dell, I still don't get hibernation as an option. It's greyed out in the task manager, not offered in the window that shows closing options.

Anyone knows why?

Thanks

Try checking under the power options if hibernation is active (control pannel -> power options -> hibernate -> enable hibernation).

João's advice should set things straight under XP. However, I'm not sure about how hibernation is enabled/disabled under Vista. Are you running XP or Vista (just seemed prudent to ask...)?

a year ago, I had a hibernation problem with XP. Can't remember exactly what caused it, but remember I had to install a patch from Microsoft to fix the problem.

try pressing the 'Shift' key when the Shutdown dialog is visible. sometimes this will change the Standby button to a Hibernate button.

did you upgraded from 512mb to 1gb? i also don't have the hibernation feature but then normally i'd turn it off even it was available.. hopefully, the patch will help you regain the feature.. :)

I guess you're talking to urlwolf ? (Just for the record : I got the problem upgrading from 1gb (2x512mb) to 1.5gb (512mb + 1gb), the patch fixed the hibernation problem --> Go figure.)

Had the same experience - no idea how I fixed it, though. *Possibly* it was courtesy of a patch, but it was two years ago and I no longer remember  :o

Sorry, my "unread posts" seem to have missed this thread (or maybe it was me"? :)

It worked, there's a checkbox in power options. it was that easy.
Thanks to all who contributed, and sorry for missing the thread!

that was a very simple solution.. i remember once when i accidentally shut down the computer by pressing the "Power" button. only after that i went to the control panel to change the settings.. :)

Try "Show new replies to your posts" (alongside your avatar at the top of the page). I find that really useful to find new posts in threads where I have posted.

Glad you sorted out the problem.
