There's not enough room in this forum for all the batch and cmd tools  ;D  I have a folder of about 800 files that I copy into the path of any new computer I get (or my servers at work) just so they'll be available, no installation needed.  Most of them are "batchable", including ports of the gnu utilities plus a bunch of other items I've found, looked for, or evaluated.

Of course the real gem on the Kilowatt site is Rexx (although I prefer the Regina port, http://regina-rexx.sourceforge.net/) which I use for any scripting I need to do.  (Any other old mainframers out there?  If you miss the ISPF editor be sure to look at SPFLite...)

Incidentally, if you like CryptoTE's encryption and fast Scintilla editing, but you think it may be a wee bit short on fancy editing features, be sure to add in Dolphin Text Editor Menu... then just select some text and hit ctrl-numpad-0 to do the fancy stuff.  I liked Dolphin enough to contribute so I could use it at work.

Scintilla is the bomb, it seems to be the innards of a lot of the best text editors these days.  They all have a slightly different flavor (I am preferrring Notepad2 these days over SciTE, for example, and even over my licensed copy of Ultraedit) but they all tend to be blinding fast and can handle huge files (hundreds of MB) extremely well.

Can you use your restore-to-factory-default to go back to whatever the base image was, and try the upgrade from there?  That would take care of the Toshiba utilities.  You'd still have to reinstall everything else...

Same here, I use a scrolling capture if I want Mouser to merge the pictures for me, and if not then I take my own separate snaps of the different parts.  This can be useful for writing documentation, where an "auto scrolled" separate snapshot might not be scrolled to a logical screen break.

The current MS SQL Server Express has a 10gb per database limit.

As Shades suggests, free and open source alternatives abound.  PostgreSQL, Firebird, SQLite, MySQL are just a few.  They have different strengths and weaknesses but are very capable.

As info, Excel 2007 allows a million rows and 16k columns.  But everything is going to have some limits.

Yes, the features list seems to include a lot of built-in stuff.  And a lot of features harken back to Windows 3.1/NT 3.5... weren't those the last editions of Program Manager?

Smart insertion of program files into Program Manager groups, by using the GROUP command.
Easy access to the configuration files, AUTOEXEC.BAT, CONFIG.SYS and all .INI files. Use the System Edit... option in the system menu.
Fast access to Program Manager or Explorer programs. Use the Programs option in the system menu to run these programs.
WinOne® can be set as the default start up shell, replacing the Program Manager.



You could always try this batch file debugger free for 30 days... but it's a whopping $80 to buy.  Let me know what it's like if you do...

Tree.com should be in the windows\system32 folder of your system drive.  Can you try doing the command this way?  Navigate to a folder, then type in:

   %windir%\system32\tree.com /f

Hmm, I know it was in XP, and I tried it on my Win 7 64-bit box before I posted.  Maybe it's in the support tools package, or resource kit?  (No, I just checked both of those.)

The program draws a very plain tree of folders (and optionally filenames) to standard output, which you can redirect to a file.  If you add the /a switch it uses normal ASCII characters for the tree part, like this:

ReOpen may do part of what you want, it will let you re-open folders or programs that you have recently used.

Consider System Explorer for some help.  Just go in the options and set the history to record to a file, it saves a time stamped text file with events, program start and end, network connection (tcp) start and end.  I have used this many times to troubleshoot what is happening on a workstation or server.  http://www.systemexplorer.net

The next year I asked her new fourth grade teacher, and he said "I would have to learn it first!"  ;D

I had a decent simulator from http://www.sliderule.demon.co.uk/ but it appears it doesn't like 64-bit Win 7... hmm, have to find some other way to torture my daughter's brain  :P

I have a license too, and although I assumed that the upgrade policy was the same as the "if you purchase now" deal, darned if I can find anything about it on their web site...  anyone know what the policy was moving from version 2 to 3  (I wasn't around back then)?  Given the "and all future version" wording in this deal, I'd be pretty disappointed if current licensees get charged...
