I'm very dissapointed in what codetrucker has done by way of deleteing all the content from this posts.  we will try to address this later so this kind of thing doesn't happen again, since it renders an entire history of conversation unintelligible.
Revision-control of all forum posts? :P

Catherine: if you're in any way associated with SourceAnywhere, please state it directly.

Hm, that's a very slight change - I can hardly tell it from bright white. I used to use a slightly yellowish color myself as well, something still bright but softer than 3x255... just haven't gotten around to that the last X years :)

As long as you haven't installed / updated anything and skipped the "please reboot" prompt, and shut down active apps, deleting %temp% should be perfectly safe. If not, some application is abusing %temp%, and that should be filed as a bug to the developers.

It will, if André implements some of the suggestions that he received upon the release of dbPowerAmp. For the moment you can use Test & Copy in Burst mode if the album is present in Accurate Rip, and returns high values of confidence. It's as good as Secure mode, but much faster (around 22-24X speeds on my drive), handy for those 20 minutes songs :D
That still isn't as good as dbPoweramp using C2 error information, though... great thing about it's ripping is that it bursts through your track, and then only re-reads the parts it has to, unlike EAC which is all-or-nothing (bursting, or re-reading each CD frame multiple times). Of course your drive needs (reliable) C2 error reporting for dbPoweramp to work properly, though.

Whoo, custom toolbar icons! Finally! Those stock icons become uglier each passing day. Now don't spoil the party saying that it's only present in the Pro version...
Heh, why use a toolbar at all? I've disabled it to give more space for the important thing - file list. <3 keyboard <3 :) :-*

That is great news about the skin support, as it stands at the moment the thing is unusable with windowblinds, even when its told to ignore it, just loses its classic skin, so if they can fix that it would be fantastic
If "skin support" just means supporting XP and Vista themes, then I don't have a problem at all - I just thought it meant custom skinning support, something I absolutely loathe, except for a very few programs.
5908
Skin support? Oh no, once an application goes down that path... :o >:( :(

Symbolic link / ntfs junction support is nice, though, for when you're forced on a Vista machine. I just wish he'd spend the time on a 64bit version instead of silly things like skins and toolbar icons.

f0dder i don't think that tone suits you..
one of the ways this site has remained so civil is that long time members here strive to be polite and understanding and respectful, even if they don't feel they are being treated with that same respect.

i especially expect those of you who are esteemed members here to set a good example for the rest of the people who might be more recent newcomers.

I believe most of the members have strived to be polite, and have tried to conjure up a solution that would satisfy CodeTRUCKER, but still fit in with the DonationCoder mentality and community spirit. But what has been given back? Questioning/flattening of our moral standards, patronizing, etc. I'm sorry, but it ticks me off when the community goes out of it's way to try and accomodate somebody, but all we get back is a "sorry, that's just not good for me, I'm leaving".

I am feeling quite out of place in an atmosphere of narcissism, where the focus is always on the "me, me, me."   I don't live in that environment personally or in business and I don't have any close acquaintance with anyone who does.  The only place I have this conflict is on DC.

Sorry, but the only narcissist around here is you. You've tried to hide your patronizing behind a friendly and overbearing smile, but it has shone through quite clearly. Reality check, dude.

A really great thing that happened with EAC is that it now supports AccurateRip in "one big image" mode - previously, it could only generate AccurateRip info if you ripped to individual tracks. Since I keep one flac per CD (along with a cue file), I'm pretty excited by this :)

I just wish EAC would implement better ripping, like dbPoweramp... EAC is darn slow, and the constant re-reads put wear & tear on your drives.

Btw tinjaw, is integrating mantis + subversion easy? I'm thinking of automagicifying stuff, like auto-closing tickets based on svn commit logs?

Yes. There are several places this has been done and notes kept:

Okay, I will take a look at those later; did you do it yourself, so you can comment on how easy it is? :)

CodeTRUCKER, don't be offended, but considering all those words as inappropriate for children made me giggle. I'll tell you, children hear things like that everyday, mostly on the street, and if we're going to consider the proper names for sexual organs as offensive, I wonder what kind of sexual education are we going to teach to children.
Sexual education? My oh my, are you one of those rambling mad leftist?

(Sarcasm aside, it was recently shown that sex-ed raises the first-time age - something I personally consider a good thing.)

Btw, I think FLAC has had some pretty serious speedups during it's lifetime - I remember initially choosing APE because it had somewhat better compression ratio and it was quite a bit faster; last time I checked, FLAC had improved a lot, giving APE a lot less of an advantage there, leaving it with the "just how open is it?" and "not as supported as FLAC" disadvantages.

The loudness race is annoying :(, but I must admit I almost prefer it to very badly mastered albums where the loudness level waries extremely from song to song. But nothing beats perfectly mastered albums; Pink Floyd: Wish You Were Here is the album I always think of in this regard :)

Anyone have anything easy to switch VS colors?
I think I saw an extension/add-in/whateveryoucallit, but can't remember if it was specialized wrt. colors or if it was just a settings import/export thing... and I never found any pre-made color schemes anyway :/

What's so good about Mantis?
It doesn't look very pretty looking at the demo?
I guess prettiness wasn't a design goal - but openness and stability was?

I'm pretty wary of storing any of my data, especially important and/or large quantities in proprietary formats/systems.

Turning off tooltips and "Show type specified icons" did the trick - but of course now there's only two icon types, "generic file" and "folder"; I do like visual clues for RAR archives, .chm files, et cetera... but obviously it would be a bit tricky to support that, as the default "get icon" API from windows also looks at .exe files to extract default icon etc.

Wrt. unicode output in locate.exe I put it a bit on hold, after realizing that Okke's plugin might not actually need any updating at all - but a lot of FARR would have to be rewritten >_<. I can brush up the modification a bit and commit to the repository, since unicode display would be nice to have for console users nonetheless.

It's worth noticing that part of the reason why RAR compresses wav better than zip is that "not too long ago" (considering the full lifetime of RAR; it might have been a couple of years now), RAR introduced some "compression filters" to pre-process data before compressing... including filters for graphics, sound, executables.

Apart from that, the RAR compression algorithm is superior to the one used in ZIP, and the fileformat is smarter as well (solid compression, for instance, kicks ass when you have a lot of small files, like a source code distribution).

Oh, I used to use .APE before I went .flac, ape development has stood still and while it has source code available, the license is a bit quirky; I really do prefer to keep my media library free of any trouble :) (and I'd really love a SqueeezBox sometime).

This is starting to become ridiculous.

f0dder: "Disable updating (...)" option is there for, did you try that?
Yup, "Disable updating (file information from database)" checked, "Do not add directoris (except local drives) to the list" checked, "Use default icon for directories (use with...)" checked.

Sorry but that didn't answer the question really. I understand why it needs access to specified locations to update the database but why does it need to access anything just to open the search window (I am not talking about during the search - literally just opening the window to enter search criteria is incredibly slow).
That does sound weird.

Also even during a search why does it need to access anything - surely the whole point about have an index database is precisely to avoid looking at disk/network content to do a search ???
This one is simple - if you want accurate, up-to-date information about timestamp, size etc. of files, since they could have been changed since last index. Personally, I'd prefer fast-but-possibly-outdated, though, just haven't figured out how to tweak settings properly for that :)

Janne: I have those options set that way, except for "Do not save network drives and directories" (as I do want to be able to quickly search the files on my fileserver). But simply scrolling the result view still generates a lot of filecalls to the items in the list...
