I wasn't clear enough. I'm less interested in a note organizer than in a note keeper, something to replace EverNote 2.2 but that is likely to have a future, with particular reference to capturing, storing and finding information from the Web. EverNote and CintaNotes are particularly convenient for that. Stick-A-Note is an excellent tool for making ad hoc persistent notes on any window - as long as it has a unique Window Title.I'd like to make persistent notes that can be stuck to similar windows by some form of wildcard. That is, I'd like to be able to stick a note to a Web page and all its child pages, and to be able to stick a note to a particular file whatever editor I'm using to edit it. when Martin changed WSW to subscription-based pricing I decided that it was too much for me to pay for something I wasn’t using that much. Also, for pages where I just wanted to monitor for pricing changes, some other services cropped up that work well and don’t cost me anything to use.I bought my business license for WSW when I was using it at work, but since I'm no longer working, I can't really justify the cost of upgrading (though one day I might like to). i just want some info on Total Commander [...] I am not getting a hands on its Multi-renaming tool (Usually opens after Ctrl + M).I followed some tips from here Rename with Total Commander., but i am not getting a hang of this tip.I'm not an expert on this, but it looks about right to me; mark some files, invoke the Multi-Rename tool, then edit the changes in much the same way as you'd do with BRU or 1-4a Rename. The author of the article has made it look more complicated than it need be by changing several things at once, and by using regular expressions as well, but really it's much like the free-standing tools. if I am capturing a webpage for a topic that I am researching I like to have it in the same program as the rest of my research notes.This is a very valid point, and I've suffered in the past from having to have information scattered across several applications. BTW, the Firefox extension Scrapbook captures webpages as well as Local Website Archive IMO. If RightNote cannot capture a page - which occurs a bit more than I expected - I just capture it with Scrapbook, click the notification link to open the page in another tab, and then use RightNote to capture the Scrapbook page. This is especially handy when the webpage is a receipt or anything else that requires a secure login. Most programs have difficulty logging in and capturing such pages while Scrapbook scrapes them up perfectly.Nifty! I suppose I'll have to look at Scrapbook-J-Mac (January 26, 2014, 08:42 PM)
On the occasions where RN hasn't captured a page because it's a secure login, I've used the clipboard method, i.e., mark the area I want in the usual way, then Clip to New Note: and Clip to Current Note: as appropriate. You don't even need to press Ctrl+C, just whatever RN hotkeys you've defined. I don't know whether this gives a more accurate rendition than your method, but it's been good enough for me so far. It's also worth noting that Martin Aignesberger's flagship program WebSite-Watcher can itself log in to web sites, and can also pass pages to Local Website Archive. I haven't tried this myself but it's in Help for my 2010 (10.5) Business Edition, and certainly RoboForm treats WSW like a browser. Maybe similar functionality might be considered for a future iteration of RN, though it rather depends on how much Rael wants to make it a web-capture specialist.I see the difference. I've done it before.If I want perfect verbatim copies of complete web pages, I would use Local Website Archive, which does that job well. You might find the free-for-personal-use version adequate. what are your thoughts on the webpage note feature? I was going to give it a try and installed the version 3 update. It changed my license to the freeware version instead of a trial and I haven't been able to get the webpage note feature to work.I've been using it a bit as a stash for clips from the web. Not quite everything works the way I'd like, I think there are still issues around scrolling the tree to the current clip, but I consider the quality of the web clips to be good. But as it's a laptop, I suppose I'd have to replace the whole thing. It's (probably) not quite as serious as it sounds, yet; I don't think I even used the machine much until a year or so after I'd bought it (maybe that's the effect Vista has on you) and it's my personal machine, not one at work that had an intensive life. HD Sentinel gave it the all-clear, too. But, I suppose I'd better start keeping an eye on laptop reviews need to close Windows, (and start it again), for the updates to install, so your Windows Update can rest?I switched it off ("Not recommended") ages ago after the Update from Hell that I detailed in Windows Update disaster - recovery help, please!. That sounds more like a developing hardware problem than a software issue to me. [...] Check inside and see if the drive casing is unusually hot - or use a drive utility to check the actual temperatures along with the SMART stats. But I ran Hard Disk Sentinel a few weeks ago, just before doing the last disk image. As far as I understood it, which isn't very, it gave a clean bill of health. I just ran it again, with this result:Could also be power manager unnecessarily spinning the disk down then up. It happens.
