I'll recommend again my top choice I use myself for this stuff: "MyInfo".
TaoPhoenix, does MyInfo have hotkeys for adding Web pages and parts of Web pages, like RightNote does, or is it whole-page and mouse only?  Also, does it have a Merge feature, something I found useful with EverNote 2.2 (the old desktop app) for combining sections of Web pages?

One of the features of ClipMagic (payware, currently on offer) is
Categorise/Organise your clips. Create rules/filters for incoming clips.

You can do something similar with Virtual Folders in mouser's Clipboard Help+Spell, but you need SQL to do it.  CHS' own Help points you to these DC threads for more information:

General Software Discussion / Re: Listary 4 released - tons of new features

I'll just have to live without Listary for now.
Or maybe revert to an older version that does work?  If any do?

Please make a Simple Application to easily set all tray icons to always hide in xp.
Have you considered PS Tray Factory?
PS Tray Factory
The system tray icons management utility

Current version: 3.2
OS: Windows 7/Vista/XP/2K/9X/NT (32 and 64 bit)
License: Try-before-you-buy
Cost: $24.95

PS Tray Factory is a powerful and useful tool meant to flexibly control ALL the other icons in the system tray of the taskbar.

PS Tray Factory is a powerful and handy tool meant to flexibly control ALL the other icons in the system tray of the taskbar. PS Tray Factory will help you to manage all the applications that place their icons in the taskbar tray. When you have installed PS Tray Factory, you will forget about the problem of lack of space in the system tray, and will also get an easy, fast and handy tool to handle those applications. In short, ALL Windows users will get this handy and powerful tool at their disposal, whereas only Windows XP users have an idea of it. For the latter, we have made a nice surprise, as the features of PS Tray Factory exceed the standard built-in ones of this OS. With PS Tray Factory you can quickly hide system tray icons and easy manage them.
Various mentions on DC.  Here are only three:
These are quite old threads, and most of the other tray managers are quite old now, but if you're using XP, maybe that's what you might need.  I'm not sure about your requirement for a Simple Application, though  :)

I guess I could create a text file from each column, and compare somehow (dont have anything installed for that so if this the course to take, pleaase recommend something)
You might try a port of Unix comm, which I mentioned in DONE: Are any of the files missing???

Mini-Reviews by Members / Re: Stick-A-Note + Universal Viewer - Mini-Review

Stick-A-Note is an excellent tool for making ad hoc persistent notes on any window - as long as it has a unique Window Title.
I'd like to make persistent notes that can be stuck to similar windows by some form of wildcard.  That is, I'd like to be able to stick a note to a Web page and all its child pages, and to be able to stick a note to a particular file whatever editor I'm using to edit it.  I haven't yet seen a sticky notes program to do this...

when Martin changed WSW to subscription-based pricing I decided that it was too much for me to pay for something I wasn’t using that much. Also, for pages where I just wanted to monitor for pricing changes, some other services cropped up that work well and don’t cost me anything to use.
I bought my business license for WSW when I was using it at work, but since I'm no longer working, I can't really justify the cost of upgrading (though one day I might like to).  I'd be interested in alternative services, though; as this is going away from RN, please could you PM me?

Thanks.

i just want some info on Total Commander [...] I am not getting a hands on its Multi-renaming tool (Usually opens after Ctrl + M).I followed some tips from here Rename with Total Commander., but i am not getting a hang of this tip.
I'm not an expert on this, but it looks about right to me; mark some files, invoke the Multi-Rename tool, then edit the changes in much the same way as you'd do with BRU or 1-4a Rename.  The author of the article has made it look more complicated than it need be by changing several things at once, and by using regular expressions as well, but really it's much like the free-standing tools.  Why not try it on a few test files, or surf over to the Total Commander Forum?  Is there anything in particular that's baffling you?

if I am capturing a webpage for a topic that I am researching I like to have it in the same program as the rest of my research notes.
This is a very valid point, and I've suffered in the past from having to have information scattered across several applications.  I still like to use LWA to locally archive things that really matter to me.

BTW, the Firefox extension Scrapbook captures webpages as well as Local Website Archive IMO. If RightNote cannot capture a page - which occurs a bit more than I expected - I just capture it with Scrapbook, click the notification link to open the page in another tab, and then use RightNote to capture the Scrapbook page. This is especially handy when the webpage is a receipt or anything else that requires a secure login. Most programs have difficulty logging in and capturing such pages while Scrapbook scrapes them up perfectly.
Nifty!  I suppose I'll have to look at Scrapbook  :)  On the occasions where RN hasn't captured a page because it's a secure login, I've used the clipboard method, i.e., mark the area I want in the usual way, then Clip to New Note: and Clip to Current Note: as appropriate.  You don't even need to press Ctrl+C, just whatever RN hotkeys you've defined.  I don't know whether this gives a more accurate rendition than your method, but it's been good enough for me so far.  It's also worth noting that Martin Aignesberger's flagship program WebSite-Watcher can itself log in to web sites, and can also pass pages to Local Website Archive.  I haven't tried this myself but it's in Help for my 2010 (10.5) Business Edition, and certainly RoboForm treats WSW like a browser.  Maybe similar functionality might be considered for a future iteration of RN, though it rather depends on how much Rael wants to make it a web-capture specialist.

I see the difference. Similar to copy/pastes I've done in other programs. It's not a big thing but my at times OCD tendencies would have me trying to fix it to look the same. I've done it before.
If I want perfect verbatim copies of complete web pages, I would use Local Website Archive, which does that job well.  You might find the free-for-personal-use version adequate.  It looks like recent versions have more features than I realised, but, AFAICS, it's a whole-page-capture program, and doesn't intend to have all the features of a note-taker.
I think for the time being I'll stay with version 2 and keep saving my web pages in TreeProjects.
Does that mean that you prefer TreeProjects' web page capture to RightNote's, or, that having a TreeProjects license or not needing one, there's no point in upgrading RightNote?

South Africa, I think.  At least, their Website Design company, Creative Core, has a .za zone.

what are your thoughts on the webpage note feature? I was going to give it a try and installed the version 3 update. It changed my license to the freeware version instead of a trial and I haven't been able to get the webpage note feature to work.
I've been using it a bit as a stash for clips from the web.  Not quite everything works the way I'd like, I think there are still issues around scrolling the tree to the current clip, but I consider the quality of the web clips to be good.  Here is a comparison of a direct screenshot from Firefox with the same thing clipped in RightNote:

Left - Firefox:                 Right - RightNote

A quick check of Wikipedia gave even better results.  Be aware that the web clip feature is only available in the Pro version.  See RightNote Version Comparisons.

I haven't tried this...  EssentialPIM says it supports vCard import/export, has "Integrated synchronization with Microsoft Outlook, iOS, Android and Google" and numerous other cloud services, and has free Android and iOS apps.  Could you manage your contacts that way?

If you weren't struck on images, CSV would be a good format for automated modifications and interchange.

General Software Discussion / Re: What's thrashing my hard disk?

Just as a matter of interest, Fujitsu transferred their HDD assets to Toshiba back in 2009 - your HDD is over 5 years old, (2008 model).
I'm still surprised to find it inside a Samsung, though.  I'd have expected them to use their own HDs.

Even though SMART says it's fine, if it's your main computer or you use it heavily, I'd probably look at replacing the HDD now or in the near future.

Depends on your mindset of course - I generally wait til they go toes up  :)
I'll probably do the same :-\  But as it's a laptop, I suppose I'd have to replace the whole thing.  It's (probably) not quite as serious as it sounds, yet; I don't think I even used the machine much until a year or so after I'd bought it (maybe that's the effect Vista has on you) and it's my personal machine, not one at work that had an intensive life.  HD Sentinel gave it the all-clear, too.  But, I suppose I'd better start keeping an eye on laptop reviews  8)

need to close Windows, (and start it again), for the updates to install, so your Windows Update can rest?
I switched it off ("Not recommended") ages ago after the Update from Hell that I detailed in Windows Update disaster - recovery help, please!.  In that thread, you commented that given good security software (which I have) there wasn't much point in updating Vista because nothing worthwhile was being added to it.

^That's not on every version of windows, which was the reason for my query about OS version
It's in my Vista, but I don't understand it.
I was getting disk thrashing, and only with process monitor
A quick DuckDuckGo search showed Process Monitor as the most popular utility for investigating this kind of problem.

That sounds more like a developing hardware problem than a software issue to me. [...] Check inside and see if the drive casing is unusually hot - or use a drive utility to check the actual temperatures along with the SMART stats. That will at least let you know whether it's a looming hardware issue or not.
It's a laptop, and I'm a klutz  :(  But I ran Hard Disk Sentinel a few weeks ago, just before doing the last disk image.  As far as I understood it, which isn't very, it gave a clean bill of health.  I just ran it again, with this result:
HDSentinel_report1.png
(Given that it's a Samsung laptop, I was surprised to see a Fujitsu hard disk)
Could also be power manager unnecessarily spinning the disk down then up. It happens. Go to your power settings and check the setting for your harddrive and change or disable to see if that's the culprit.
I'll have to go look for that.  Thanks!

What have you checked so far? (I'm presuming you've had a look in Task Manager or equivalent?)
I have now :-[, but I don't understand Task Manager.  I run Chameleon Task Manager, which on the surface at least looks more informative, but the default is not to monitor disk usage.  I've turned it on now, but it will need a day or two to gather enough statistics.  So far, the two biggest users are WinPatrol Plus (45%) and (Windows) Explorer (14%).

Lately, something's been rhythmically thrashing my hard disk.  Sounds like an old  combustion engine "hunting," speeding up and slowing down again.  Please, how can I find out what's happening?  Given that I'm not a supergeek, something easy to use and easy to interpret, please.
