Mousers Media Browser / Re: Mouser's Media Browser v1.08.01 - Dec 12, 2019 beta
« Last post by tomos on December 11, 2019, 08:41 AM »
Just after installing this (well, portable version) on my laptop (I did try it on my desktop, but a long time ago).
Cancel scan works, but recursive reading is very impressive:
it showed thumbnails quite quickly for a folder with almost five thousand files in a dozen or so sub-directories.

Where it is slow is deleting files: I ticked the option to not show the confirmation dialogue, and it's still very slow -- takes about five seconds.
I think it would be nice if the focus went to the next file when one is deleted (but not sure would everyone want that/if possible)

Discussion list if the one I use most -- I am the one in ten ;-)
But as a Quote repository of sorts -- load a bunch of qoutes from one person and work my way through them in slide view, and decide what I think of them (person/quotes).

The Connection -- a French film, originally La French. Showing what was happening in Marseille during The French Connection (must try to watch that again, I can barely remember it).
I saw the film dubbed (in German)

It's not original; towards the end, especially, it lets you know what's going to happen.
But I found it a really great movie: beautifully crafted, but more importantly for me, the characters were gripping.
Reviews aren't that positive, I'd give it at least an eight:

This is one for a simple Internet search, or
try it and see (there are different compatibility modes that might help it work).

QuickTime is not even supported by Apple anymore. It is dead.
Even when it was supported it was a nightmare.
(IIRC there were alternative versions of it which were supposed to be more user-friendly.)

Here's a fascinating blog post about how creating a multi-player economics engine in planet zoo has led to some extreme examples of supply and demand:

So where does all this leave us? In a vicious cycle, where the more people grind out the Big Three, the lower their value becomes, and the more of them people need to grind to afford anything else.

N.A.N.Y. 2020 / Re: NANY 2020 Release - Android App - DiscussionList

I tested with a file created within Notepad and that worked fine. So not really a bug I guess :-[
FWIW with UTF8 format nothing gets imported.

The quotes were copied and pasted. Even though the quotemarks look exactly the same as those typed with Notepad, they dont work. And I used think text files were foolproof and 'just' plain text...

EDIT// sorry forgot to say: I did a find/replace on the dodgy quotation marks. Saved again in ANSI, worked fine

A bug though!
Quotemarks dont get read / come through as that diamond shaped symbol with a question mark in it.
FWIW the text file was created/saved in Notepad, windows 7

I notice if I add quote marks within Discussion List, they show correctly

Yeah that should do it.  I can't remember if I strip the extra spaces.. You don't need them.. If I don't strip them currently I will add code to do so, so you don't get extra spaces in the display.
I tried without spaces and it worked as expected
Code: Text [Select]
  1. [hr]This is the quote which will be followed by author's name.\nAuthor Name
correctly becomes
This is the quote which will be followed by author's name.
Author Name

Re creating a list file:
  • And then each item on its own line after that, with \n used for linebreaks if desired.
(it's a pain to test as preparing text on pc for phone)
Is this correct usage -- where I want author's name on separate line:
Code: Text [Select]
  1. This is the quote which will be followed by author's name. \n Author Name
  2. This is the next Quote. \n Author Name

Probably best go look at homepage. If you can't find the relevant info, ask again

Tomos: that's the definition. In this context, I often start a note, then as i think more about the topic and revisit it I'll see different facets within what I've written. So I reorganize the information, splitting some into new notes that are more specific, but none of the original information is lost.

The point is that you don't have get the one thought per note right the first time.
thanks both, I just wasn't really familiar with the word tbh

I'm not sure I fully understand 'refactoring' in this context -- I see it defined as changing/improving code without changing its external behavior.

I see in another thread you're looking for something to be coded for this.
You never responded to the suggestion I made above: Why not an information manager (pretty much any one) ?

You do ask for free:
I havent used ToDoList in a long time, but it's an impressive piece of software, and free.

i had a quote i wanted to address.
I start the note, put the quote.  then i proceed to write all my thoughts on this.  It was a lot, lol.  way more than lurman would put on a note card.  I feel im doing it wrong.  I think im doing more than one thought.  maybe multiple thoughts.  so mentally, i still feel i am not getting it, lol.
I'm pretty sure Dormouse wrote above about first writing, and then breaking down that writing into notes. (Sorry, I didnt look for the post...) What I like about the system as described is that it encourages you to write rather than just hoard (I do that, or at least I'm slow to do any writing).

It's not a bad idea as a general function, to add a duplicate feature...

Though I will note that for discussion list, the easiest thing might be to write your items using a text editor and use the simple import feature/syntax.

Any new suggestions?
an idea --
I find myself wanting to write variations on current questions. Would it be possible when in edit mode to duplicate the entry? Something like with Google calendar.

Like Sphere, I'm following this thread with great interest, but will have to read it more closely.

I'm currently not actively using any app. I used use InfoQube (IQ) for structured work projects -- currently I'm using it as a dumping ground, mostly for web-clippings, or I email it directly with a link, a couple of keywords, occasionally a thought, or a photo of hand-written notes.

Some possible ways of connecting entries/items in IQ:
  • as parent or child or sibling item -- supports multiple parents
  • via tagging -- tags can be hierarchically organised (with parental inheritance; tags can also have multiple [tag]parents)
  • as related items -- related items will show as a list (links) in the info pane -- items can be mutually related

Most of what I save is related to thoughts, ideas, but I have yet to try and structure it meaningfully. The idea of only saving info with related thoughts, or at least an indication of relevance is very logical -- I'll have to try and do that more consistently. Like you here, I have to figure how to go about all this more specifically.

Thanks mouser (I should have read all the OP first...)
Even longer notes are very readable in edit mode

I see also a simple list is importable -- I can look at the lists from popup quotes and modify if needed.

There's some good questions in "the six minute diary" that can be asked/answered each day. (Fwiw some questions there I don't relate to / some schmaltzy quotes as well imo.) I would presume though that as a set of questions that they would be copyrighted. https://www.amazon.c...titude/dp/B07J1Q1P6R

In general though, that could be a good subset of questions: those that can be asked each / every day.

There is an option to set slides to show in random order:
[ Invalid Attachment ]

I actually worked on this a bit to make it so that the "random" question order does not change, and remembers where you left off, so that you won't encounter the same question twice.
You can "reset" the random order when you get to the end (or whenever you want).
And note that you are shown a random list of the questions in your current section when you trigger the slideshow mode.  So if you want to see all questions you need to trigger slideshow from ALL section.

Note also that by default, if you hit the back button from within the slideshow mode, you exit the app, and it will relaunch into slideshow mode when next started.  This is done so that you can essentially keep the app always in slideshow mode.  You can change this option from preferences if you generally prefer the listview mode.
this is all really well thought out.
I love the slideshow mode: focus on the question, no distractions -- to really answer some of these questions could take a long time (or is that just me ;-)
