This quite an interesting concept.
In my opinion, it's not yet "usable", because it's a bit buggy (i got some strange behaviour from the "windows". Still, it's a nice concept, and I'm hoping some day google will find it and make a virtual pc for everyone! :D

BTW, here's some discussion about this site on DC: https://www.donation...dex.php?topic=2997.0

Or F# (if you want to launch the second item, you could press directlly F2)

PS: why doesn't anybody ever remember this one? it's the only way i use it :)

I have Taskbar Organizer, and it works very well, does exactlly what you're looking for ;)
As for the tray managers, maybe you should see this thread which has the relevant links to everything talked about this matter on DC.

[edit]Actually, taksbar organizer doesn't allow you to specify a place of the windows to be opened, only relocate the windows on the taskbar. Still, it's pretty good ;).
As for the tray, i think that there are a few apps mentioned in a few places on DC that allow you to do exactly that.[/edit]

Btw... Welcome to DC, gadlen!

General Software Discussion / Re: what kind of keyboard you use?
« Last post by jgpaiva on April 19, 2006, 04:34 PM »
Since no one has mentioned it, I'd like to bring up the future of keyboards.  It uses my new favorite thing, organic LED (OLED).  OLED is really cool because when the light is off, you can't even tell there's light there, so it blends in the surroundings.  Not many things use it now, but my new minidisc player uses it and it's sooo nice looking.  Anyway, here is a keyboard that uses it, and what's great is that each key has an OLED screen on it's surface and depending on the application you're using on the computer, the keys will change to show different things.  No more need for keyboard templates, special gaming keyboards, etc.  So cool!

Ok.. I didn't know about that. It's just perfect! I wish i had one of those.. No more RTI :D

I'm just checking in to say i didn't forget that update, just been a bit busy (with school work), but i'll get to it as soon as possible. Sorry.

I just got myself a logitech media keyboard elite and i'm loving playing with it. It's very confortable, has just the perfect touch, and i also like the "extra features" like extra keys and OSD.
The only thing i don't like about it is that it has the buttons translated to portuguese (my native language), it confuses me a bit.

Post New Requests Here / Re: DONE: LabelControl - Mouseless control
« Last post by jgpaiva on April 17, 2006, 08:56 AM »
This is a great idea! And it works quite well, congratulations Skrommel! :D
Only one suggestion: why not have key work as a toggle, instead of forcing it to be pressed.
I mean, the user could activate it with a hotkey, like F8, then, the labels appear, and one could press the number on the label. If the user didn't want to activate anything, he'd press F8 again and the labels would disappear.
This would avoid interfeerence with program's hotkeys, and in my opinion, would be a bit more handy, since holding ctrl and pressing a few buttons is not very ergonomic.

Developer's Corner / Re: Lines Of Action Game Heuristics
« Last post by jgpaiva on April 17, 2006, 08:11 AM »
I think I should have explained things a little better, but I'm also trying to figure out somethings myself.
I know the algorithm i'll use, it's minimax with Alpha-Beta cutoff. That's not a problem.
Another important issue is that my program can't store any data in between different games (although i'm not sure if it will between plays, I'm waiting an answer to that question).
I think it'll be quite basic, i don't think it'll take any logic deductions based on a knowledge base.
So, i guess there'll be no learning involved, because even if it could learn between plays in the came game, it wouldn't make much difference.
In the meanwhile, i've found a good link: The Quad Heuristic In Lines Of Action. It has some information about creating heuristics based on the center of mass and amount of "blocks", which makes some sense to me.

Developer's Corner / Lines Of Action Game Heuristics
« Last post by jgpaiva on April 17, 2006, 06:44 AM »
My Artificial Inteligence work just came out, and I must say I'm abit scared. I have to make a computer player of the game Lines Of Action. I already know which algorithm to use, my problem is that I've never played the game, so, I don't quite know how to teach a computer to do so.
I've already searched quite a bit, and found good information about the game, but nothing on how to play it, strategically speaking.
So, I'm asking for some help, I'd like to know if someone knows some ways of playing the game (i.e. good heuristics, technically speaking), or at least, some good pointers for me to dig through.

(I couldn't fit this post anywhere, so, i posted it here because it's programming-related)

My favorite pen, though I had only a relatively brief affair with it -- ending when it was stolen by my ignoramus computer teacher.
Grr... That's what I'm always afraid with my beloved pen, that i could lose it, or it could get stolen. I already lost my last one, and it made me maaad!

Very interesting article, straight to the point, and a good read.
It's unbelievable how it's right. And how the human mind follows some kind of parameters.
The truth is that i find myself reading stuff like that too.

Post New Requests Here / Re: IDEA: A USB device manager that makes sense
« Last post by jgpaiva on April 16, 2006, 05:58 PM »
Hrm, on my XP system only the device I select is removed?
I'm on XP SP2 here too. I think all devices are removed, but then, reconected. At least, i noticed that my usb modem got disconected every time i removed my usb pen, but it didn't look removed from the system, because all leds were active. My guess is that XP momentaneuslly removes all devices for a very short period of time, and then reconects them all.
Not sure, though

I see what you mean, and it actually is a good point. I learned how to do that at school, and it's quite unbelievable how it works.
If you are given the language you're working with, you can translate a whole program into just one number, and translate it back.
I was told it is a method also used with cryptography. I did it with a 10 instruction and 4 keyword program, and it was quite easy. But i guess doing it with a whole C program, would make it quite hard. (although i guess the program could be automated)
Still, making a number copywrighted looks like a bit dumb to me. ;)

I love this new version!
And the "undimming" function, it's just amazing! I love the way the screen returns to it's normal state, just the same way it went dark.
Fantastic!

I'm a little bit late, but still, you deserve good recognition for this one!
Great article, really enjoyed reading it, and it gives a very good idea of how DC's first year was, and how you (and other contributors) are really into making DC a great place. (even better than it is right now ;) )

Thanks!

Regarding the "ahk_class #32770 bug", i was a bit aware of that. I used that way of detecting windows because it's more unique, and works even when the window doesn't have a title, or even more importantly, when a window has a changing title. (this usually happens in browsers or editors). But since the person can use the "NotDetectableWindows" variable to avoid those situations, i guess i could have it identifying through window name, or some sort of combination of both, or maybe have other 2 hotkeys for adding through ahk_class. I still don't know how to do it, but i'll try to solve it.
I'm now on vacations, which means I can't fix it right now, but you ight expect a new version for next monday or tuesday.

Have a happy easter! :D

Or, if you're a farr user, try Farr's Calculator :)

Oh my... YOU DID IT! Your suggestion fixed the problem! It works now, in both directions :D:D:D. Brilliant! Thank you very much. Thanks to everybody else trying to help as well. Just awesome. Wow ;)
Great, that means that the problem was related with that string, mos probably, it was looking for " Realtek" instead of "Realtek" (notice the preceding space). Anyways, good to know it's working.

AHK is sweet. Now only to figure out how the hell to use it, and I'll be set!
It took me one week to start making great stuff, and one month to know almost everything there is about it. Don't worry, it's really fast to learn.

While I'm at it.. how do I set a hotkey for scripts? And does AutoHotKey itself have its own GUI.. if so, how can it be accessed? I do have an entry for AHK on the start menu, but when I start AutoHotKey it starts with the default INI file and nothing really happens from what I could tell. It just opens the ini file in text-editing mode in notepad.
AHK is a scripting language, that means there is no gui, because it's not a "real" program. I'd say the best place for you to start is the help file, which is an exelent resource, and has tuturials on how to do the basic stuff.
The help file is so good, that it's a constant reference, even for everyone that knows how to program in AHK. You should have a good look at it, it'll take out all your doubts ;)
3973
The problem is that it is never noticing that the string " RealTek AC97 Audio" is in the window.
Try changing that line to "IfWinActive,ahk_class #32770,Realtek". I don't think that'll solve it, but it's worth trying.
Still, if that doesn't work, you can always make 2 different scripts, as Carol mentioned. Or, if you use it very often, make one script, with hotkeys.

Nice one, nudone!
I also am very fond of toxmox latest site banner

[offtopic]Am I the only one that thinks it should be "software connoiseurs" instead of "for software connoiseurs"? It's only because i think that the "for" might scare people, since DC is for all likings, you don't really need to be a software connoiseur to be part of it ;)[/offtopic]

Doesn't a widget app work for that matter? (i mean something like samurize)
I don't think there is any need to pay for such program. Or did I understand you wrongly?
