Get a Blackberry Curve or Bold, no touch-screen, a descent keyboard, good 3G connections, stable hardware, lots of extra apps and other goodies.

Isn't that true for all those sites screaming all the big marketing mumbo-jumbo :tellme:

General Software Discussion / Re: Simple Commandline to send Keystrokes
« Last post by Ath on February 08, 2011, 04:48 PM »
I thought about that when working on this extension, but could not make a decision whether to add that as a feature or not. It's quite a different feature, as the executable of the file to load usually doesn't have much relation with the title of an active window. It would most likely require an extra commandline parameter. And while that's not really bad, it's imho a bit off of the original idea.

I'll think about it for a bit, and write here what I decide.

Living Room / Re: which is more important, system ram or video ram?
« Last post by Ath on February 08, 2011, 03:17 AM »
Going for that amount of RAM warrants looking for a descent mainboard first. One that supports this memory, and some extra if you might later need it. These boards support VMX in all cases, and the high-end CPU's supported also do.
Maybe you should go for a server mainboard, it can be had with multiple CPU sockets, so if a quad-core isn't enough for running all your VM's, you can add a couple more. Hm, then go straight for a XEON system, of the latest X56xx series, it really has superior VM performance, and is available on systems with lots of memory. But I'm not sure anything but Server OS's (Windows Server, VMWare ESX, Linux's) can boot from that board and what storage should be connected.

Oefff, I got a little excited :-[, but it was fun :D

General Software Discussion / Re: Should MS open up Windows Update to 3rd parties?
« Last post by Ath on February 08, 2011, 03:07 AM »
Renegade: the whole point would be getting rid of all those FSCKING LAME "so ein ding mussen ich auch haben" 3rd-party auto-update tools, and have one centralized & stream-lined process to handle all updates. It would be very++ nice for the end-users.

Isn't that where DCUpdater comes in and fills a niche? All can conform to that standard as it's quite easy to setup and use. Maybe the UI could use a little W7 sauce to make the Apple fanboys using Windows a bit less unhappy, but it has a pretty much the same use-scheme as Windows Updates already.

@Carol,

Why aren't you going for top performance and buying an Intel CPU for the same amount of money as the AMD CPU, but with 25 to 50% better 'tsjakka' through the opcodes :-\ Thought it was speed you're after? And next thing is bang for the buck?

Added -c, -cc and -cn options and released WinSendKeys 2.6

I updated the other thread (at the end, but the rest is important enough to at least see) with all the relevant info and an updated download.

Another update and now WinSendKeys 2.6 is released.

Latest release & download moved to separate thread

The changelog for 2.6 since the previous 2.5 release:
; 2011-02-07, version 2.6
; + Added -c option to read keystrokes from the clipboard, as requested by mouser & kikon in this thread: https://www.donation...ndex.php?topic=25553
; + Added -cn option, like -c, but does not send an {ENTER} after each line, can be added after -c or -cc to disable the {Enter} being sent
; + Added -cc option, like -c but embeds the clipboard into the KeyStrokes commandline sequence using #$ prefix, see readme for details

Attachment includes AutoIt3 source, updated readme, a sample strokefile (.stro) and .exe

(Edit: typo fixed)

perhaps someone can suggest such a commandline tool that could be run from farr?

I can add that to WinSendKeys, I'm away for about an hour now, and then I'll have a look at it.

Just retried from another place, with another tube connected to the intertubes, and, although slow to start, got it in a few seconds this time.

What's the OS? Most likely XP, and though XP does run better with more memory also, the increase of 64 or 96 MB isn't going to make much difference
Take into account the sluggish harddisk, and you've got a bad performing PC by its specs.
I'd indeed go for a new system, and not invest money in memory you (probably) can't re-use for a more modern PC.

Hm, looks like that server needs a kick in the butt (or a disk is failing). It's slow as mud through a coffee filter... from about 2 MB of 3.55 and stopped at 2.34 MB, first part was quite OK :'(

I'd even say that system-RAM is more important than CPU speed; if you have to choose, based on limited money ofcourse, between an i7-860 with 8 GB ram, or an i7-870 with 4 GB of ram, then choose the i7-860/8GB because of better performance in the long run and with heavy loads.

It would be nice to see some life breathed into Delphi/C++ Builder.

I agree that would be nice, been using Borland stuff for 25+ years also (had a turbopascal on MS-DOS back then), but I'm afraid that this action of Embarcadero isn't going to improve on that...

Found another minor issue in the 92 build:
When adding a replacement through the wizard, it gets auto-assigned a different icon then the one with index 0. That's fine, though it could be an option in the options screen. But when later selecting the replacement for editing, that icon isn't reflected in the Icon combobox in the editing area. :(

Ok, is there a time-window where backups are being made, so I can avoid hitting the barriers? ;)

... where control+space is autocompletion for variables and functions. I don't think that keyboard combo can be changed?

It's not Ctrl-Space, but a dead key, like ', followed by a space that produces the '. If it where Ctrl-space I wouldn't be able to use it either ;)

@roberro: The dead keys are so natural and transparent in daily use that it's hardly documented, because most users don't want to live without it after they discover it :-*
Most of them I have to help/learn to add the standard VS keyboard, and switch layout using left-ctrl-shift, because they have the need to disable it at times (mostly developers, using quoted strings in their sources).

- Would it be possible to trigger with a popup?
  p.e. now I use \\a" to write an "ä"
and \\a^ to write an "â"
        and so on
It would be nice if Auspex can do this:
write an "a" --> trigger --> popup with â,ä,à etc
         and "A" --> trigger --> popup with Ä,Â,Á etc

Windows does have the "US International" keyboarddriver available, that can be installed next to the much used US keyboard, and is easily activated/switched by a left-ctrl-shift press. Then it's even easier to type "a to get ä, 'c to get ç, ^o for ô. If you need the accent without the following letter, just press space.
I wouldn't use Auspex for that. It's correct that the standard keyboarddriver doesn't facilitate to show a popup.
