General Software Discussion / Re: Undocking MousersMediaBrowser??
« Last post by mouser on July 13, 2018, 05:24 AM »
I had the same exact problem with my own app -- stupid docking when it shouldn't be!

I made a new version with a bunch of improvements and that behavior should be fixed.

I just uploaded it now, so download from official page and install over existing version, and let me know if it's fixed please!

Thanks for the report -- these are things I think I should be able to fix pretty easily.

This cat is trying to help clean:

Either ventilate that section from below or give the top a slight overhang at the back and ventilate that section at the back.
yeah it would be easy to ventilate the back.

FWIW, I'd prefer a matched kickplate, maybe .5" inset, taking the whole piece down to the floor on 3 sides

i did that for my living room media cabinet, and it looks nice and i am generally a fan of the built-in look, but one thing about having legs and raising the cabinet off the ground though is it does make it feel a bit less heavy and imposing, and since this is sitting inside a hallway i dont want it to feel too imposing.

I'm about to get started on a similar structured but more elaborate piece -- an 8ft buffet (sideboard, credenza, etc.) with doors and drawers.
I found a realllllly nice warm golden aniline dye stain that I can't wait to try.. I'm also going to try using proper furniture feet for the first time..

Anyone have any thoughts among these potential designs?

buffetsketches.jpg
buffetsketches2.jpg
buffetsketches3.jpg

This buffet will be 8ft (96 inches) long, only 14 inches deep, and about 32 inches tall.  It will be in the hallway, visible as soon as you enter the house.
Among other things, the idea is for it to hold daily use SHOES, but I'm not sure what else.  It's been suggested to me that daily shoes should be stored in open space not behind doors, in order to get good ventilation.

And some foot designs I am considering:

SC doesn't care about differences in screenshots -- but SC will by default complain if you capture an entire image that is only one color.. This is a check to make sure something hasn't gone wrong. You can disable this option here in the "Miscellaneous Tweaks" tab:

What's probably happening is acemd.exe is changing its own priority to below normal soon after it starts a new job.
And PT is only trying to change it once.
I can fix that -- I can make PT try multiple times.

Enable the Process Tamer log file, and check that from the GUI.

When you set a force rule, PT should try to force that priority on the app when it sees it.. But what I can't remember is whether PT continually monitors the app to see if anything else changes it afterward, or will leave it alone after the first time it changes it.  I suspect that the latter is what's happening in this case.  PT is changing it, and it is changing itself back.

Does it seem most likely that what is happening is something else is forcing acemd.exe to low priority AFTER PT forces it above? (possibly itself).

For now, you can use the normal CHS download and go into KeePass options and enable the option "Use 'Clipboard Viewer Ignore' clipboard format (not recommended)" in KeePass.

I will try to come up with a more clever solution for CHS soon.

You say the Windows Task Manager shows that the process is "below normal" - does the Process Tamer GUI also show the process listed as running below normal and that it thinks it should force it to above normal?

And does everything work as expected if you try making an "above normal" rule for something like notepad.exe?

It sounds like you were using it properly..
If the app is running BELOW normal, that sounds like maybe it is forcing itself to be below normal, and it may be that it's changing itself after PT changes it.  I'm trying to remember how PT works when an app changes itself after PT changes it.. whether it keeps trying to change it or gives up.  It sounds like it may be giving up.

Can you try this beta version for x64 -- it may improve the behavior: https://www.donation...ex.php?topic=43293.0

Let me know either way.

I think there will be some improvements soon in PT..

You can find similar lines in my code.
Normally they are accompanied by lots of curse words and me blaming the person I hold responsible for it taking so long to solve.

Fixing now.  Maybe this is one the original poster was having trouble with that I didn't understand -- the download links weren't working!

It's wonderful to see you post here Ian (Gizmo).  :-* :-* :-*

TechSupportAlert is one of the very best sites there is.

It's only become more important over the years, because there is so much "fake" freeware out there now, which calls itself freeware but is really an unusable commercial trial version.  TechSupportAlert is the site we can turn to when we want to find what real freeware options are available for a given task, and get recommendations from people who really know their stuff.

Living Room / Gizmo's TechSupportAlert website needs our help
« Last post by mouser on July 03, 2018, 11:20 AM »
Ian Richards who heads the TechSupportAlert.com website has put out a call for assistance.

There is no better website on the planet to learn about real freeware software, and Ian and TechSupportAlert have been true friends to us here on DonationCoder, always supporting our fundraisers and always being generous in their praise of our software.

This is an absolutely essential website for freeware lovers.  I hope everyone who has donated to DonationCoder will consider sending them a donation.  I know I will.

Gizmo's Freeware is one of the few remaining websites that is doesn't charge for reviews, doesn't offer pay-for-app listing services or accept reviews written by developers and advertisers. That’s the reason our reviews have always been honest and independent and that's the way we want to keep it.

However, we are currently under a lot of financial pressure and its coming from an unexpected source: our users. That’s because 46% of our users now use ad blockers and as a result, our general Google ad revenue has fallen sharply. Don’t get me wrong: we support the right of our users to employ ad-blockers. Hey, we have even recommended to you the best ad-blocking products!

But our fall in ad revenue is now limiting our ability to update our freeware reviews and expand our coverage. That affects everybody. We are looking at long term financial solutions but in the short term we need to survive.

We could easily raise more money by being more blatantly commercial, but we don't want to go there. Instead, we are running a fund-raiser campaign asking our loyal and understanding users to contribute a small amount as a donation to the site.

So please help Gizmo's remain independent and fearless by donating just a few dollars now. In our 16 years of operation I’ve only ever asked twice before for support and hopefully will not need to do so again for a long time. So please guys and gals, stand up and be counted at this time of need.
