OK, it's a little weird that GOG is having their Winter sale only a month after their Autumn sale, and that it's not even Winter yet...

But, as part of the sale, for the next ~48 hours you can get a free copy of Neverwinter Nights Diamond on GOG.com.

The sales will last at least 7 days, as part of the promotion is that you can earn "XP" by "checking in" once a day, and checking in 7 times will earn you a badge.

That triggers a pet peeve.  Why does every explanation how to do something have to be a video now?  It drives me nuts.

I know someone who would let his wife's teenage brother play games on his computer. He found that this teenager wouldn't really play much of The Incredible Machine because it had a lot of text to read. But the teenager would play copious amounts of The Incredible Toon Machine because all the dialog had animations and voice acting, so he could just watch and listen instead of having to read a wall of text.

Don't underestimate how many people are visual learners, how many people don't like reading, and how images/videos are much less abstract than words.

Even if you can't understand the language, watching a video can often give you enough information to do the thing you're trying to learn.

There's no way to monetize text explanation.

The Witcher Trilogy has been on GOG Connect for a while, maybe even since the last promotion a couple weeks ago. But now they're doing their Black Friday sale and Limbo is a new title on GOG Connect.

It's been a while since I used XP so I don't remember exactly, but essentially just right click the desktop and uncheck the "auto-sort" desktop icons option.

Hmm... Could be.

I joined the Windows Insider program, but I'm still on the standard/stable release of Windows. In other words, you can join the Insider Program without also signing up for the (possibly unstable) betas or "Insider Preview" releases of Windows.

That is why it is generally preferable to upload images directly to the DC forum itself rather than use an external image hosting service: So that images attached to posts will stick around as long as the forums do, rather than for as long as the external site keeps them around.

We've lost some good stuff due to 3rd party image hosting.

What's worse is that it doesn't even always help to watch them. I keep a tab open on the GOG Connect page and click "Refresh" (almost) every day so I don't miss anything. I did that today and it said there were no new games for me. Then I went to the GOG homepage and saw the announcement that were 20 "new" games added to GOG Connect. I went back to my open tab and Refresh still told me there were no new games. So I did a Ctrl-F5 refresh of the page and then the games showed up for me.

Now I'm left wondering if it's any use to keep that tab open that I've had open pretty much since GOG Connect was announced.

It's not needed. This is evidenced by the sometimes long gaps of time between the "monthly" newsletters.

But as others have pointed out, the newsletter is very useful to the community here.
