how about finishing Deozaan's Docoto defense instead of starting another game?

perhaps it's just the combination of hardware i have and the software i use but i DO think there is a performance difference with a disabled swap file.

with swap file disabled: no difference within a single program (but i'm wondering if illustrator may even swap between open files quicker too), but when i have several open at once and i'm swapping between them i'm sure they are more responsive to update on screen - even ones that i've closed a few minutes ago.

i might do some comparisons as i might be lying to myself.

typical apps open: several adobe apps, browsers, outlook.

hardware: raptors in raid 0, 4 gig ram (okay so 1 gig of that is taken by xp).

pretty amazing i'd say when you think of where it might lead.

i'd say, refine it a bit, think of the 'killer application' and then patent that.

looks to me like you've got the old internet explorer column drop problem.

make the image 'kidsatschool.jpg' a bit smaller and it won't push out the column and make it drop.

probably stick a bit of space between the top banner and the link above it also (the registered charity bit).

redo the text on the top banner when you can.

(maybe consider resizing the heads so that they are in proportion to each other - i'm not too sure if that is necessary. if resizing obviously looks better after you've done it then use it.)

and, don't trust dreamweaver to get it right for you. you'll soon find that when you are trying to accommodate all of the browser problems that dreamweaver is very ignorant.

brilliant job, Deozaan.

(i wonder if it might be a prehistoric ancestor to cody - a missing link maybe, when dinosaurs were becoming birds; hence the crocodile like jaws.)

nice stories.

my father likes to remind people how much he hates 'com poooters' whenever he has to mention them. watching him use the laptop (on the few occasions he's managed) is like watching someone being tortured. like he's trying his best to wish that the laptop would vanish into thin air, or that touching it is similar to touching a dead rat.

i saw him. not sure what he was doing in there - or maybe it was a relative. i think the video must have some kind of philosophy behind it - generate random content and then narrate it perhaps.

as i understand it, in the original novel, whether the murders are real or not is deliberately ambiguous. as is Bateman's sanity.

which means you may not wish to read the remainder of the novel. whoops.

so, it's entirely up to you whether he did or not.

Living Room / Re: AGP 4x on 8x Mainboard
« Last post by nudone on June 03, 2008, 01:45 AM »
taken from http://en.wikipedia....erated_Graphics_Port

AGP cards are backward and forward compatible within limits. 1.5 V-only keyed cards will not go into 3.3 V slots and vice versa, though "Universal" slots exist which accept either type of card. AGP Pro cards will not fit into standard slots, but standard AGP cards will work in a Pro slot. Some newer cards, like Nvidia's GeForce 6 series or ATI's Radeon X800 series, only have keys for 1.5 V to prevent them from installing in older mainboards without 1.5 V support. Some of the last modern cards with 3.3 V support were the Nvidia GeForce FX series and the ATI Radeon 9500/9700/9800(R350) (but not 9600/9800(R360)).

It is important to check voltage compatibility as some cards incorrectly have dual notches and some motherboards incorrectly have fully open slots. Furthermore, some poorly designed older 3.3 V cards incorrectly have the 1.5 V key. Inserting a card into a slot that does not support the correct signaling voltage may cause damage.

so, other than the 'slots' preventing you from being able to insert the card it looks like things are pretty compatible.

cody tells me that wtfcody.com has a page rank of 11 (or it might have had a pagerank of orange; he wasn't certain), which might explain why DC's page rank dropped when i temporarily made cody's website unavailable.

that's cody's theory, not mine - i don't understand such things.

Living Room / Re: Photoshop disasters

well, i agree. first impression of the vampire woman was that her eyes had been 'enhanced' a little. but then i thought well there must be some 'vampire' connection here - which then made me see that she kinda looked like she was getting ready to take a bite. not actually something i saw straight away - which is partly my point - it's not too hard to find a problem where there might not really be one.

i agree about the bike rider also. as for the dvd cover, are they just questioning whether it is an official cover. i don't know.

i looked through about a dozen more pages and then got bored of trying to find unphotoshopped images. i guess there are a few that are questionable but not as many as i first thought.

if you take the time to look at unphotoshopped images with the intention of finding something odd about them then you'll find it.

you'll see that the human form can look 'manipulated' even when it most certainly isn't. try it, i don't think it will take you long to find something that looks unnatural.

the vampire image was merely pointing out the woman's face (the eyes and the expression that implies shes is about to bite someones neck).

looking at that site i'd be inclined to say that some images are NOT photoshopped - which, to me, means the jokes on them.

i've not tried it with vista but it says on the homepage that it will work.

General Software Discussion / Re: XPPro SP3
« Last post by nudone on May 26, 2008, 12:58 PM »
i've not had to make a purchase myself but...

if you install one of the xp sp3 versions that were mentioned earlier there is an option built in that allows you to buy a valid key from microsoft.

simply install without using a serial.

then go to the windows update website, here you'll have to use the 'windows genuine advantage' thingy.

at this point you will be provided with the option to pay to validate the install - i'm looking at the page now and it says £63.43 for windows xp home.

i think you can purchase oem versions of xp home for a little less than that if you look around (overlclockers.co.uk have it for less than £57).

i'm assuming the same process is available for the pro versions of xp - if not using the volume licensing version.

edit:
the pro version is £95.47 using the above method (overclockers.co.uk pro oem version £89.29)

(also, the oem versions are stated as being sp2 - maybe they've not updated the website to say sp3 or maybe they just don't stock sp3 yet.)

yeah, thanks kartal.

i found powerfolder not long after making the request - seems okay.

i've emailed my vote in - i hope it appears.

glad you found it, nosh.

1: you can also access the control by clicking on the "tools" button on the main display (if you've got the default skin loaded).

2: then click the "playback" triangle button on the small control panel that appears.

3: you'll then have access to the "speed control" settings and the "regular tone" toggle.

i've just tried KMPlayer with a few .flv files to see if i got the chipmunk effect.

seems to work okay for me, i.e. no chipmunk effect when watching 2x and 3x playback.

if you are getthing the chipmunk effect it's probably because the "regular tone" setting isn't enabled in the playback options.

suggestion: to make farr more popular. make an idiots version. give it a 'friendly' web2.0 like name, e.g. tapr, typr, runr, ushr, impulse, blah, blah, blah.

straight out of the box looks 'nice' with a trendy web2.0 like skin. doesn't have more than a few options that the user will probably never see anyway.

basically, to make it popular. remove all the options that make farr the perfect piece of software that it is. options = dread. even if they are never used the fact they are there defines the software as being complicated. less is more and all that.

sorry, it has probably been mentioned before.

(i'm not suggesting to change farr - just make a little cousin to it - strictly aimed at being popular. think of it as a marketting experiment.)

i'd forget about the nLited method. i've had strange problems in the past doing things that way.

better to spend another day getting it right, without cutting corners. oh, and to keep double checking that it really is working before you install all the usual programs.

i think you'll find the common advice around here is to make a backup of the fresh o/s install, and then make several afterwards as you install (and check) more to it. it's going to save time and stress in the long run.

KMPlayer should do this. well, it does it with most videos, not sure about ALL videos.
