FWIW, on my old 1.5GB Atom powered netbook I used to use either K-Meleon or the XP version of PaleMoon (archive link) which had optimisations for Atom CPUs.

FWIW played with K-Meleon for a couple of days and it was terrible.  For the moment I'm assuming its the browser and not some other issue but I'll give palemoon a go and see what happens

Could be a rebuild in the works...

I'll give those a go.  I've toyed with kmeleon before, but never seriously

and yes, its still running the original win7 starter edition it came with.  It's getting a bit long in the tooth now and could probably benefit from a rebuild, but converting to linux has long been on the cards (although its a nuisance if I want to use it for some windows related work)

if I can derail this thread slightly, I'm also looking for a 'modern' lightweight browser for my netbook

Not worried about disc requirements, more about memory usage etc. 

The current assumption that everyone has unlimited memory and mega core CPU doesn't apply here - limited to 2Gb ram and an atom processor

FWIW I'm currently using opera as it seems to be the lightest so far.  Chrome is 'useable' but firefox isn't.

I've tried a few others but they all seem to be based on one of the current favourites so there don't appear to be any real gains 

suggestions?

as usual, more info required...google is your friend

copying a sheet into a book is easy, but you may well have issues with the formulas (depending on what they are and what you're trying to do)

and it sounds like not everything in the formula sheet is applicable in every scenario you might use it in, so it may be that using the process you've described isn't a very efficient solution

without knowing the format of your spreadsheet it's difficult to provide accurate answers

that said, don't make things harder for yourself than they need to be, ie let excel do the calculations for you (thats what its for after all) by setting up a couple of fields in the source workbook

the counta formula counts the number of fields (cells) in a range that are not blank, eg =counta(A:A).  add '-1' to account for header rows

The countif/countifs function counts the number of occurrences of defined values within a range, eg =countifs(UDE!$AC:$AC,"Low",UDE!$AC:$AC,"MLD") + countif(UDE!$G:$G,"High")

percentages are calculated by dividing the results of your 2 counta formula's, eg =counta(B:B)/counta(A:A).  Note that the proper way to do this would be to substitute the relevant cell references for the counta functions 

can't give you any advice regarding the extraction of the results to another document without knowing more about where and how the source files are stored.  Mail merge may work, but I can't test it against your scenario

this should be relatively easy in VBA, but I guess it depends on how you want to do it

Do you want to do this from somewhere in office, ie word or excel, and if not then where from (and maybe why)

Do you want to open the source file(s) or just poll them remotely

do you want to do this on a schedule, or ad-hoc

maybe I'm nitpicking, but if anyones adding to the list can they please add something more than just a name + link. 

In a lot of cases the name is a clue as to what the program does, but I'm probably not alone in being wary of clicking on an unqualified link to find out whats on the end of it

Not suggesting for a minute that anyone here would consciously do anything risky, but still...

There are a few out there that do this.  A lot depends on the methodology even with these, as I've noticed that even doing it programmatically using the Windows API, it stops working after a while.  I've narrowed down this particular issue in several cases to be that the file isn't flushed, but kept locked, so that the operation isn't evident on the drive.  Is it possible that the data hasn't been flushed to the file?

so are you refreshing that explorer window while your watching it?  Those windows are static and won't show any changes until refreshed (F5)
