Living Room / Microsoft Acquisition of Yahoo!
« on: February 04, 2008, 07:23 AM »
I read this line over my friends paul's blog.I was surprised by Yahoo!'s decision for offer of MS.I know many of the yahoo products are cool to be integrated into MS.But it doesn't make any sense.

MS got bad hit from Linux, but they are really getting their grooves with web services and technologies.ASP.net is most used technology on the internet. But acquiring Yahoo! will definitely make them to conquer more internet as yahoo's BSD servers will be replaced by MS servers.Simplenet & Flickr will also get integrated with MS technology,no More PHP & MYSQL on Yahoo! office.

Again Yahoo was not taking most data from user for their purpose (some exceptions) but like Google, MS (as usual)will start taking personal data from user. And security breaks down..... and down...

Take a look at this article http://paulstamatiou...46-billion-for-yahoo

& search on Micrsoft.com/acquisitions for more detalis.

Drop me some of your thoughts.

Developer's Corner / Bow to the browser
« on: January 13, 2008, 04:51 AM »
Firefox continues to supress other browsers with it's power.Recently netscape announced that they are no longer going to develop future versions of netscape. They will continue to provide support for their current version 9.But they are encouraging the use of mozzila browser to their users and visitors. This ultimately fails other browser which are using netscape engine.Like Neoplanet and many others.Netscape is out of browser race now and they may not able to put their web standard from now on.This clearly makes firefox on the top of others.

The future holds only to 3-top browsers.

Safari: It will remain alive as long as apple thinks. It will do exist on apple OS,so that apple can implement their operating specific settings and features.

Internet Explorer
No chance that firefox is going to repalce it officially on windows.Microsoft is bending to

open source technologies unofficially (.Net Mono Devlopement)  but they are not going to implement any open source framework on windows other than java.Lauch of Blend proved that AJAX,Ruby and Python will be incorporated in Blend but again MS is not making any claims officially about it.

Firefox
It will continue to rise.It is currently the only secure cross paltform browser.Other brosers which are based on gecko engine like flock(Same as mozzila) will continue to have little market share.I'm not sure about opera cause i've personnaly done survey for this browser in many internet cafes.and the users are complaining about its stability and security. It's just my observation.Your experience may vary.

So what is your opinion?

Living Room / Wiki Spam
« on: December 06, 2007, 06:22 AM »
There are many wiki pages are constantly being spamed. Some of the examples are of ultimate++ IDE's wiki pae Here in the image. There link for tutorial is spammed or is used for advertisement. As google ads are already appeared on their official page, the ads on the tutorial pages are supposed to be spam.

http://img135.imageshack.us/img135/8852/uppwn3.jpg

There are many "Get rich quick scam sites"/"Porn Sites"/"Get paid"/"Pharamacutical Ads" are displayed on most of the forums thread and on wiki pages. Many users with blogspot blogs are putting false content on the blogs for their adsense code.If you care for the such communities or good resources/forums/wikis then please notify these issues to respective community leads.

General Software Discussion / What linux needs?
« on: September 19, 2007, 04:46 AM »
After reading the "13 reasons linux will not make it to desktop" I started this thread to discuss the problems you faced in linux & what you expect with Linux, what you think it is not making up as Desktop in Future for most of the computer users. You can post here which softwares or features missing that makes windows still a good choice. From my side i think linux misses few applications mentioned below:By the way it is my perspective so some of you might disagree.

1. Game design software (easy, effective like Game maker)
2. Theme designer for KDE,Gnome or XFCe etc.
3. GUI Builder IDE like (Borland C++ or Delphi) >> This is needed badly <<
4. Autohotkey like scripting for GUI programs & automation tasks
5. Less bloated/whistles/tabs Windows explorer like interface for Konqurer (KDE) & Nautilus(Gnome)
6. KDE & Gnome needs develops section needs lot of documentation so that new developers can step up to the project easily.

You opinion could help in Linux some way or other.so post your views. Please post your views about it.

This PDF i got from gizmos newsletter,i thought it is worth to share with you guys.I thought very few subscribed to his newsletter,so here is the link.

This short and whimsical article by regular contributor "Briard" is so accurate it's painful.

Post New Requests Here / IDEA: Powertoys
« on: September 12, 2007, 10:08 AM »
Hi

This could be a good idea, maybe it is discussed in past. But there are few utilities microsoft created are discontinued in future releases.

1. Image  resizer powertoy :it'll not be availabe for vista & future version.
2. Clear type: as this technology is part of aero interface.

out of these two & many others,i think why not create image resizer powertoy as it is good, and worth to port even for linux & windows.

But we want this utility to survive for older versions & future,so anyone give it shot.as i'm not much into image makin apps.i passed this idea to all of you.

Developer's Corner / License to Pick :)
« on: September 09, 2007, 09:58 AM »
;D I've trouble picking license for the software, actually there are so many licenses to choose from like creative
commons, opensource,GPL,mozilla,BSD etc. While distributing application i want to release the software as free

but i want:

1. Restrict user for derivative or branching, that means no branching at all.
2. Allow user to modify source but merge the source back to main software.
3. User can't sell the software without permission from any cd compilation
4. All the developers/contributors in any way of software credited on some text file.

What do you think which license is good for me? Is there any site or blog that discuss license issues or helps picking it?  :D

Developer's Corner / Dev-C++ Discontinued?
« on: August 16, 2007, 02:48 AM »
Dev-C++ one of the best Opensource GPL based IDE,discontinued.Last two years this IDE is not updated & no news of developement.I've asked on comp.lang.c++ group about this i came to know that a new port wxdevcpp is taking over this IDE.Do you have any information about the current developement or work behind devcpp, please post it here.if it is not discontinued please let me know. 8)

So let me tell you about this compiler : Devcpp was only free compiler & It was the only alternatives in the days where proprietory products survived. For newcomers there are very few options available right now, while learning C++.Some of the alternatives are :

1. Turbo Explorer C++,it is free  but contain lot of borland specific functions,so new developers tend to defer from standard specifications like (borland function) conio.h used to pause screen, where u can use system function with cstlib.h.You get addicted to borland specific functions. This make so much diffrence. Also turbo explorer can't let you add third party components & you can't install any other component & another turbo product on same system.

2. Visual C++ express,it is good but it is windows specific,so if you are dual booting between win/linux then your programs are not portable. It's good not to use MS when you have cross-platform plans in mind.

3.Digital mars & Openwatcom are less popular due to complex compiler issues like compiling & debugging.

Dev-C++ was used by many game developers in thier game for back-end design. It is good Compiler. As it uses mingw so you can create proprietory apps with package manager with it,also with devpaks concept you can add pre-compiled library files to your dev-c++ installation. There are many features of dev-c++ but due to lack of developement by author it's lifecycle is over.Dev-c++ was designed in delphi.Source is available on Cd-rom (or even sourceforge maybe). All i want is survival of this small & handy compiler.

Another branch of devcpp is wxdevc++ which focuses on wxwidgets and RAD designer.it is very huge downlaod & not suitable for newcomers  in programming. It is good for wxports developement but it isn't for the newprogrammers. Most of the heavy developement is done in wxdevcpp, and i guess author of devcpp is seeding his efforts on it.

So i have few questions: :-\
1. Is Wxdevcpp a good choice for newcomers in programming?
2.is it worth to download huge program just to learn cpp/c or opengl?

What do you think is it good idea for any delphi user to continue with source of devcpp in the future or let it die. :-\

Here is question set that most of the newbies came up while using builder. Some questions may sound absurd but i m presenting in such way that answers to these will be a complete help file for any newbie. Please do take time to answer, some answers are in the help file but they sound too technical too understand for newbies.Consider text editor example and please take look at some questions:

1.How to read the whole project in terms of which files are meant for what purpose in C++ builder?(e.g form file,main1.cpp etc)

2.How to add standard menus to application(e.g. File | Edit | Help) ?

3.How to add action associated to these menus?

4.How to create Tabbed interface for opening multiple files(Consider text editor in thsi case)

5.How to add another wordspace area apart from Text editing area (Look at skyide that has left pane for project file browsing and another for editing).

6.How to add line numbers & line highlighting in text edit section?

Please add screenshots & code if possible or needed.Edit this post if you want to put it as tutorial or guide. If any thing requires additional componenet installation please explain in abt that component's installation in C++ builder.

Please do take some time to answer the question.Your help is much valuable to programmer newbie like me and many others.Thanking in advance.

Your help is much appreciated.
