Reading through recent entries I realise the I use FARR and CH+S constantly. I do so almost without thinking, their usefulness is so ingrained.

Thanks Mouser!

Have you tried Lintalist, whose author is a DC member? I think it is impressive.

This sounds intriguing, I think you've come up with a good idea.

FWIW, I moved to RightNote (link here)

Did you end up purchasing it or stay with the free version?
Purchased lifetime license.

Downloaded and did a quick run through. It is time for some sleep so will look at it more tomorrow. Looks alot like treepad. Have you tried that and how does RightNote compare.
I can't supply a useful answer to that. I tried a whole bunch but was under some time pressure and probably rejected some then that I might have accepted now.

Good! One of those "why haven't I done that" ideas.

FWIW, I use a wireles Wacom Intuos PTK-540WL with a drawing area of approx 8.75" x 5", 2048 levels of pressure.

Software is usually (Adobe) Photoshop and Illustrator but now I also use some very good-value graphics software from Serif (Affinity Designer, and Affinity Photo). Sometimes GIMP.

Why kid around?

Removed extender.
Disconnected other machines from the network.
Got my only neighbour (not close) to shut down for a brief trial.
Killed all relevant registry entries.
Rebboted and...

No dice.
Since, for all practical purposes, this is only cosmetic I'll live with it until I stumble across a solution.

Thanks to you all for your help. Please post here if any other suggestions occur to you.

Is there possibly a wifi-repeater active, still re-publishing the now no longer available SSID?
That's a very good thought!
I'll look into it as soon as I recover from the latest Win 10 debacle; it nuked my main computer (again, <sigh>). Thank goodness for daily back-ups!

69
So maybe it is a currently active network nearby that is being redetected..

I'm a duffer at this (could you tell?  :))

Gentlemen,

1) Would redetected networks show up with the specific names that I'd allocated to them? I'll trawl the registry and see if and where those names are still present.

2) If other machines on my network retain the names of the defunct connections, would that 're-infect' the machine from which the names were expunged?

If it takes a man a week to walk a fortnight...

70
It's the MS version of Whack-a-Mole   ;D

Hunted them down in the registry, deleted same, sat back with a sigh of relief... and back they came.

At the moment I can't rid my Android phone of them either.

71
Thanks for the suggestion, Iain.

I tried all of that. I now see only the network that I have under "Manage Known Networks."
Unfortunately, the defunct network still appears if I click the icon in the system tray.

If I right-click entries for my remaining network I can select from
Connect
Properties
Forget

If I right-click on entries for the 'ghost' network I am offered only Connect.
At that point it will collect the password and then... do nothing.

This is just a cosmetic issue but also annoying.

Windows trouble shooter fires blanks.

Thanks for the response  :)

Yeah, tried that one already. Supposedly forgotten already but... there they are, hanging on.

General Software Discussion / Out, damned WiFi spot! Out, I say!
« on: July 03, 2019, 02:48 PM »

Running Windows 10.

I recently dropped one ISP in favour of another.

My WiFi is connected to the router provided by the current ISP.

The previous router has been removed, all cable disconnected.

When I select the internet icon on the task bar, the fly-out still shows entries for the old, defunct ISP as options

It looks roughly like this:

NewISP
Connected, Secured
---------------------
NewISP_5G
Secured
---------------------
OldISP_24G
Secured
---------------------
OldISP_5G
Secured

How can I remove the OldISP entries?

I've tried various netsh wlan commands which I thought should have done the job.

It's only a cosmetic issue but I'd prefer not see entries for non-existent connections.

Any help would be welcome.

You might take a look at this.

HotStrings (Autocorrect / Text Expansion) with AutoHotkey
Click here for the link to it.

Not quite free (discounted to $15 Canadian dollars for a couple of days).
(Autohotkey itself is free)

Since you like AHK, perhaps take a look at FastKeys click here. The web site shows quite a bit of the interface so you and your wife could see if it looks to be a good fit. (It's inexpensive, too.)
