Is this a hack?

• Why is the date of this release set to June 26?
• FARR itself presents it as a Beta.
  Nothing mentioned about that on the site.

Very confusing for sure 
I don't feel comfortable downloading it.

Find And Run Robot / My Aliases are gone after update

Hi,
Today I updated FARR to the latetst version.
After that I experience that my aliases are gone. Frustrating since I rely for 100% on aliases.

In the subdirectory AliasGroups I find two subdirectories: "Installed" and "MyCustom".
In the subdirectory "MyCustom" I detect a file "myaliases.alias" (and some backup files) containing my aliases.
Q: How do I tell the updated FARR to use/know those aliases?

Living Room / Downloading from DonationCoder always gives me problems

Hi,
Every time I have to download something from DonationCoder I have to retry five, if not ten times until I get the file I want.
This is not a one time thing. I detect the problem really every time.
Today FARR (and also Screenshot Captor) came and told me there was an update.
So I went to the download page and tried to download FindAndRunRobotSetup.exe. I tried ten times without success.
Every time the download process is interrupted.
I use the latetst FireFox and "Download Manager S3" plugin.
So then you think that is the problem. But
1) I don't have this problem with any other site I download from
2) I tried to download the file with Chrome (without any plug in): same problem. After some time it stops the download (I see the download speed decrementing) and gives "unknown network error".
At last the download speed comes down to 0 (cf. screenshot: Screenshot)

I wonder if I'm the only one with this problem.
I experience this problem already several - I think - years but after some trying, the download always succeeded at last.
Today is different. So I decided to post about it.

Also, could someone give me a ZippyShare/DropBox/... link to the latest FARR and ScreenshotCapture downloads?
[Update] No longer needed since at last I managed to download successfully.
In the "Download Manager (S3)" plug in, I choose several times to "Resume" and at last the file is downloaded.
Very strange. Why only with DonationCoder?

General Software Discussion / Enables/disable internet access based on a time schedule

Hi,

I'm looking for a simple and lightweight freeware windows application that controls internet access based on a time schedule I can specify.
Eg. Every evening from 23:00 cut off the internet access till 07:00. But on Saturday and Sunday keep it up until midnight.
No fancy and/or heavy parental control application. Just enabling/disabling internet access.
Of course the program should be secured against
- switching it off by eg. killing it in the task manager
- tampering with the time settings
- ...

Currently I am able to log in to the website of my ISP and enable/disable WIFI access based on MAC-addresses. (I have to use the modem/router my ISP provides me)
But, if I want to switch off the internet access for my son at midnight, I have to do it...well at midnight.
I'd like to go to sleep and be assured that at midnight it will be switched off. (for that MAC address)
So, I miss scheduling. That's why I asked for an application - installed on the pc - that could take care of this.

Being able to control the time schedule remotely (via the internet or via LAN) would be the icing on the cake.

General Software Discussion / Portable alternative for Cathy (cataloging freeware) that runs on Win7 64 bit?

Until now, I used the freeware program "Cathy" to catalog my quite huge music library.
It is small (50Kb), portable, lightening fast in cataloging ànd searching the catalogs and produces one file per catalog.
This way I could take my searchable music librabry on a USB stick.

Recently I switched to Windows 7 64-bit and found out Cathy doesn't run on it.

Does anyone has a good alternative cataloging freeware?
It should be:
1) portable (so I can "install" it on a USB stick or in my Dropbox folder)
2) fast (or very fast) when cataloging and searching
3) the catalog should be searchable (of course) easily

It should be something like "Everything" (www.voidtools.com) but then not rescanning the disks every time you start it up,
but remembering the results of its previous scan(s) and work with that until I ask it to rescan the specific drives/folders again.

I'm aware of Gentibus CD, Visual CD and DiscLib. None of them fit the three rules above.
Any other suggestions?

Hi,

I own a - what you could call - quite huge MP3 library.
And I'm a freak if it comes to the quality of that library.
The quality of the tags, the covers and of course the sound itself.

To edit the tags I'm addicted to SoftPointer's "Mp3 Tag & Rename"

Not so long ago I detected Skwire's "CovArt Ops" program and was able to detect quite some poor quality cover art and replaced it.

At last (but not least), I'm looking for a program that is able to detect poor audio quality.
These days lots of crappy audio is posted on the internet.
People download a webrip of 128kbps, re-encode it as 320kbps and post it again and hope it will be downloaded a lot.
If, on that kind of stuff, you use all kind of programs that detect and tell you the bitrate, you'll get 320kbps.
But we all know better.

Here's a screenshot of the frequency spectrum of a certain track of 320kbps (CBR) as produced by "Adobe Audition":



And here's another screenshot of the frequency spectrum of exactly the same track in a "220kbps (VBR)" version:



When you compare the two, you are immediately able to unmask the first one as being a fake 320kbps version.
When I would have used a program to deduplicate my library, it would simply look at the bitrate and come back and tell me to keep the first and delete the second.
While the opposite is the right thing to do.

But of course, it's impossible to open each and every song of my library in Adobe Audition and look at it's quality.
Hence, who knows of a program that can (frequency)analyze my complete music library and tell me where the bad quality songs are located (whatever their disguising bitrate is)?
