Screenshot Captor / Suggestion for 'File Name Quick Field'
« on: September 23, 2019, 11:07 AM »
@mouser
I read in another post that you were in the process of adding some features and updates to SSC.
Instead of tacking this suggestion/request on to that post I figured I would start a new one in the event there were other views for discussion.

What are your thoughts on adding to the ability to change the 'File Name Quick Field' to the 'Post-capture popup dialog' window?
There is the field to override the filename. But this is a one time only unless you remember to override and re-type the same phrase each time.
Or take the 1st screenshot, override the name - save and show - copy the filename override and paste to File Name Quick Field.
And I just had another thought. Could the filename of the screenshot SSC is "planning" to save it as be shown in the pop-up? This way the user knows whether the 'File Name Quick Field' is set properly and they can just save and hide instead of save and show to modify the filename.

As IanB said in the other thread, SSC works pretty well as is if there isn't enough interest in adding these features. But I think they would be helpful for those that take advantage of and use the File Name Quick Change feature to organize their screenshots.

Thanks for considering.

LaunchBar Commander / LBC Screencast Videos Aren't Working
« on: May 10, 2019, 12:35 PM »
I am trying to see if there is an "open with" setting in LBC to allow me to select one of a couple of browsers to open a url.
It is touched on in the help file under Global Options but I am looking for more guidance.

Before asking the forum I thought I would check the LBC screencasts. But they aren't coming up when you click any of the links.
Instead, I takes me to a YouTube page with videos for FARR and Screenshot Captor. No LBC.
Any other way I can get to them?

Thanks!

Is there any way to assign Edit > Copy Text to Clipboard to a hot key combo?
It's not a selection under the Hot Keys - Custom.

Their web site is http://www.mydigitalapps.com/

There's been a few topics & discussions here before on document catalog programs. I searched but nothing came up where this one was mentioned. Screenshot Captor / Using Ctrl+C to Copy to Clipboard
« on: March 20, 2012, 03:42 PM »
I've noticed that Ctrl+C doesn't seem to be working to copy a previously taken screenshot to the clipboard.  Not a new one but an old one.
I have options set to send a new shot to the clipboard and it works fine.  It is later when I want to go back and copy a previously taken shot.
I highlight an old shot in the screenshot panel with my mouse or keyboard. If I use Ctrl+C nothing happens. But if I use Edit>Copy Image/Object to Clipboard (Ctrl+C) and click with the mouse it's copied fine. I'm sending it to CH&S and I hear the "waterdrop" sound saying it's copied plus I check and it's there.

Have I missed a setting?

General Software Discussion / Found an Office Ribbon UI Editor
« on: March 06, 2012, 10:29 AM »

I came across an Office Ribbon Editor I haven't seen discussed here yet.  Or mentioned after a couple of searches.

Simply called Office Ribbon Editor by LeafCreations

Short quote from the main page:
About Office Ribbon Editor

Office Ribbon Editor's main focus is on editing the RibbonUI for Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. The reason behind this decision lies on the fact that the ribbonUI is managed with XML. Office Ribbon Editor is a feature rich application that includes such features as:

Creating Office 2007 and 2010 documents without the requirement of having Office actually installed.
    Syntax highlighting and Autocomplete capability.
Access to all Office 2007 and 2010 features from the ribbon to the new Backstage feature found in Office 2010.

Since there's been a few discussions here about the MS Ribbon it might be of interest.
I am mostly still in the dark ages and using Office 2003 so I haven't tried it.

Standard disclaimer... I am not affiliated with the program or developer in any way.

Found Deals and Discounts / Folder Scout on BDJ 1-3-2012
« on: January 03, 2012, 08:07 AM »

BDJ is offering Folder Scout Professional today at 50% off for $14.95.

http://www.bitsdujou...ware/folder-scout-2/

From BDJ page:
Folder Scout Professional lets you instantly access any drive, folder, or file on your computer or network just by typing a few letters! ...

Features overview on File Scout's web page: http://www.foldersco...m/ProductInDepth.htm
I'm not on a server but here is a link to how it works with a network in the last release http://www.foldersco....com/NextRelease.htm

I checked through the forums here and did not find anything that it had been discussed before.  I was wondering if anyone has any experience with it or maybe comparisons to other like programs? Listary, FARR, Everything Search or anything else.

Time allowing, on the 1st formal day back to work after the holidays, I'll download and give the trial a try. But still wondering if anyone else is using it.

Disclaimer: I'm not affiliated with, or getting any type of kickback from, any of the programs I mentioned above. Only using a couple of them.

Screenshot Captor / Accessing the Comments Field
« on: November 10, 2011, 04:52 PM »
I've searched a bit and didn't seem to find anything on this.
Is there any way of externally accessing the comments field in SC for each screen capture?  I would like to be able to do something similar to Milesahead's TipOff or Propertypage discussed here: https://www.donation...ex.php?topic=28529.0

After I've finished taking a series of captures I would like to be able to see/print a list of the screenshot filenames along with the comments that I type in SC.  Right now I'm trying Milesahead's programs along with SC but it's a lot more steps/mouse movement & clicks than I'd like.  ie: monitor the program I'm taking captures of, taking the capture, bring up TipOff or PropertyPage, select the comment tab, type the comment, save and go back and start over.  It gets to be a juggling act.

Or is there an easier way I'm not seeing?

Thanks,

Screenshot Captor / Screenshot Panel Update Problem
« on: November 08, 2011, 11:02 AM »

I'm seeing a problem with the Screenshot panel not updating consistently after I have taken a screenshot.
Used to, the filename would immediately be displayed in the panel as a list or thumbnail depending on my setting.  Recently it is not being updated at the same time as the capture in the main window is shown.  It doesn't appear SC is missing the capture because if I exit and re-start they then appear in the panel.  Or if I change to a different path and then back using the GoTo folder menu.  I've tried this using the Stay Minimized and PopUp Choice Dialog settings. Exiting and re-starting SC each time I make a change.

Is anyone else seeing this?  Or could my machine be causing it for some reason?

Using SC v2.102.02 on XP Pro SP3.

Thanks,

LaunchBar Commander / LBC Hotkey Question
« on: October 24, 2011, 02:58 PM »
I set one of my nodes to display a folder containing spreadsheet files I use frequently.  I set it to 'Divide Letter Groups' which I like the looks of and it makes it easier for me to focus to the sheet I want.  Anyway, I decided to also add a hotkey to have the node pop up at the cursor.  Works like a charm. Except my XYPlorer file manager is also popping up at the same time. Opening a new tab in XYP focused to the same folder.
I tried different hotkey combinations to see if I might have used one identical to one of the XYP combinations.  Doesn't seem to be it.  Whichever combo I try I get the same results.

Running on XP Pro SP3.  I have XYP set to minimize to the system tray on close.

I looked through the pdf user guide and a quick search through the forum and didn't come across anything that seemed similar.  No time at the moment to go back through the videos.

What setting have I missed that will prevent the XYP window from also coming up at the same time?  :tellme:

Thanks

General Software Discussion / ScraperWiki
« on: October 13, 2011, 01:01 PM »

I came across this site during my "travels" through one of the sites I visit and was talked about on a TWiT podcast.

ScraperWiki

From their about page:
What is ScraperWiki?

There’s lots of useful data on the internet – crime statistics, government spending, missing kittens…

But getting at it isn’t always easy. There's a table here, a report there, a few web pages, PDFs, spreadsheets… And it can be scattered over thousands of different places on the web, making it hard to see the whole picture and the story behind it. It’s like trying to build something from Lego when someone has hidden the bricks all over town and you have to find them before you can start building!

To get at data, programmers write bits of code called ‘screen scrapers’, which extract the useful bits so they can be reused in other apps, or rummaged through by journalists and researchers. But these bits of code tend to break, get thrown away or forgotten once they have been used, and so the data is lost again. Which is bad.

ScraperWiki is an online tool to make that process simpler and more collaborative. Anyone can write a screen scraper using the online editor. In the free version, the code and data are shared with the world. Because it's a wiki, other programmers can contribute to and improve the code.

If you're not a programmer, or if you want to tackle a large or complex task, you can ask the ScraperWiki team to organise it for you.

Searched through and didn't see it had been posted about before.  Not related to them, haven't used it or know of the pros/cons of something like this, but might be of interest.

Let me know if this isn't the right forum for this.

Like most, over time I have collected a large number of program downloads, pdf's, etc.  Recently I have started "cataloging," as such, some of my new downloads, documents, etc.  I have been trying out a couple of notetaking programs for this.  The ones I have tried have the ability of clicking on a pasted complete filepath link and it will take you to the directory if it is a saved program or for documents load the associated program and the document.

Here are the steps I use now:
From a browser or program (Word for instance) I use the "Save as" selection, find the directory and at times sub-(or sub-sub-sub) directory to save to, leave the file name and file type as it is or change it and save.  Then I have to open a file manager, drill back down through the directories to where it was saved, copy the filepath, paste to the note page I am creating and add any tags/notes.  I also like this way because I can also add a screenshot to the note if I want to.

I'm trying to minimize the steps a little.

After doing the "Save as" I'd like to not have to go back through and find the saved file with a file manager to get a copy of the complete file path to paste to the note page.  Here's what I'm wondering... Is there a way to also send a copy of the complete "Save as" file path to the clipboard (or to Clipboard Help+Spell) at the same time as the file is being saved?  I could then just bring up the clipboard (or CH+S), paste it to the note and add whichever extra is needed for the program to recognize it as a link.

I have searched through the forums here and on some other sites but haven't found anything similar discussed.

Thanks,

It's already been announced both programs are on special today.

AllMyNotes at https://www.donation...ex.php?topic=26018.0

Notezilla at https://www.donation...ex.php?topic=25975.0

Reviewing other posts on DonationCoder both are respected and quality programs.  And comparing features on both company web sites it looks like both have comparable features.  With the exception of sticky notes.

Does anyone have experience with both that would be willing to offer their thoughts or a short comparison?  I am not sure if the "sticky" note feature will used that much in my case.  And unfortunately I will not have time to run through both trial versions today to compare. I'm trying to determine if (except for the "sticky") it is an apples to apples, apples to oranges, or oranges to tangerines.  While today's discounts could enter into the decision wondering if it should.

Thanks

Living Room / Recommendation for removing eye flash
« on: February 24, 2011, 01:47 PM »

Knowing there are a number of cat people here, could someone point me in the right direction of how to remove white eye in photo.  Removing red eye I have had success.  But white eye for some reason it just ends up looking like a black blotch,
Here's a reduced size of the photo. Used Renegade's Photo Resizer.

Sam Resize 1.jpg

All I have to work with at the moment is GIMP or Paint.net. Checked their sites for tutorials and haven't located any yet.  Thought maybe someone here may know.
I've been wanting to add his picture along with our other 5 "fur kids" for some time to the "Show us a photo..." thread and haven't gotten to it.  This is the best one I have of him. Unfortunately I'm not able to take a better one because in a couple of hours sadly we will be taking him to the vet for the last time.

Thanks for any suggestions.

What's the Best? / PDF Cataloger - Any Suggestions
« on: December 22, 2009, 09:53 AM »

Over time I have collected or created a number of PDF's.  Work and non-work related, each in a variety of categories.  I try to set-up and keep each in it's own category folder.  After a while I still end up looking through the different folders, sometimes drives, for a PDF I know I've saved.
Anyone know of an app that will allow me to catalog PDF's? Set up titles, keywords or tags, etc for each for easier retrieval.  I am using PDFCreator and Foxit Reader at present.  I have tried a variety of search phrases on DC and web for a PDF catalog and nothing so far.  Am I missing something obvious?  Thx.

Living Room / Malicious Software Removal Tool Ques.
« on: June 04, 2009, 08:26 AM »

I'm hoping someone can point me in a direction to help find an answer to what's happening when I run the Malicious Software Removal Tool.
Each time I run it, about half way through it just stops.  And each time it stops when it reaches C:...\MountpointManagerRemoteDatabase
When I go to task manager it still shows it as running, until I click end task.  Then I receive the not responding message.
Last time I ran it, a month ago, the same thing happened.  It did run in safe mode though.  Just not in regular mode.  I am running it under admin.
I've googled a number of different ways, searched the microsoft site, etc and haven't located anything yet that is similar.
While I'm looking I thought I'd also post here.
Maybe someone has had a similar situation or knows of a site/forum.  Thanks!

Screenshot Captor / Slowed Down My PC
« on: April 25, 2008, 01:36 PM »

Somehow or another I happened across the SC page a week or so ago and viewed the demo.  I liked what I saw and downloaded a copy to try.
I loaded it two days ago and started trying it with a couple of different programs I would like to get screen shots of.  After a while of that I closed down SC and started doing other work.  I noticed that my other programs were running slower.  I re-booted to see if that would help but it didn't.  Each program I tried loaded slower and ran slower.  Outlook, Adobe, Word, etc.  Toolbars are opening slower, searches taking longer, etc.  And when I would shut down in hibernate mode it even took longer.
So I un-installed SC using SC's un-install to see if I could get everthing back to speed.  No luck.  Everything is still running noticeably slower.  I am even hearing some distortion out of the speaker at times.  Hibernate is now taking over a minute to shut down and longer to start-up than when it was pre-SC.  This is a laptop running XP Pro.
I really like the SC program and would like to donate and continue to use it.  Any suggestions on what could have caused this?  And how I can get things back to the way they were?   Thanks.
