Is there any chance of it being added please?

Found Deals and Discounts / Netflix/Youtube Premium
« on: January 18, 2021, 04:34 AM »
OK, not really a deal as it were but more a method to save money, (this doesn't break any law in Australia but who knows what kind of messed up copyright is in your country).

Here's a Google spreadsheet with Netflix prices: Netflix Prices

The spreadsheet hasn't been updated since the last price hike, Netflix plans are now: AU$10.99, AU$15.99, & AU$19.99 for Basic, Standard, & Premium

But I currently get Premium for ~AU$7.30, (US$5.60), by signing up and paying on the Turkish site, a 63% saving.  (Argentina is currently the cheapest, Turkey was when I signed up.)

All you need is a free VPN with a exit node in Turkey ... and in case you're wondering all your content won't suddenly become Turkish in nature. The content is based on the location you log in from, I might pay in Turkish Lira but the content is all that's applicable to Australia.

Some info for signing up: Netflix via Turkey  (Just use the Netflix sign up information, not any services the site is selling)

The same thing can be done for Youtube Premium, here it's AU$14.99 Individual or AU$22.99 Family.

Paying in Argentine Pesos: ~AU$1.80 Individual or ~AU$2.75 Family.

Sign up via a VPN with an Argentine exit node, if it asks for an Argentine address see here.

FWIW, I've been paying in TKL for Netflix for over a year and only just signed up for Youtube Premium - I probably wouldn't have bothered with either of them if it was necessary to pay full price.

The above is via OzBargain: Netflix; Youtube Premium

General Software Discussion / ZeroTier - a Global Area Network
« on: November 30, 2020, 01:36 AM »
Something that hasn't been mentioned in the forum before, (that I can find anyway), ZeroTier.

Similar to the old Hamachiw program, (by Alex Pankratov), ZeroTier creates a wide area encrypted VLAN.

ZeroTier is a smart programmable Ethernet switch for planet Earth. It allows all networked devices, VMs, containers, and applications to communicate as if they all reside in the same physical data center or cloud region.

This is accomplished by combining a cryptographically addressed and secure peer to peer network (termed VL1) with an Ethernet emulation layer somewhat similar to VXLAN (termed VL2). Our VL2 Ethernet virtualization layer includes advanced enterprise SDN features like fine grained access control rules for network micro-segmentation and security monitoring.

You can use ZeroTier's hosted controllers, (there's a free level which allows up to 50 nodes but only one Network Admin, which is great for home users), or host your own controller - the source code is available on GitHub.

Currently, I've connected my phone, tablet, computer, and two RasPi's to a network and they're all talking to one another without a problem.

This is especially great as I have web interfaces on the two RasPi's that I currently access via reverse proxy as well as VNC, SSH, etc.  Switching to ZeroTier means I can do away with DNS setups, reverse proxy, and just access the various interfaces, VNC, etc via an IP, (eg. 172.26.x.x, 192.168.x.x, etc), and close any misc open ports I have in the router.

Download's are available for Windows, MacOS, Android, iOS, Linux, FreeBSD, and NAS's, there's also various Docker images available.

Setup up for all of them only took a minute or two.

Fear not!

NASA has kindly released another few million seats, launching in July 2026.

You also get Frequent Flyer points, (1.7 billion kms), but you better hurry, there's only 10,889,269 seats left as of this post.

Send Your Name to Mars!

PIA23764-RoverNamePlateonMars-web.jpg

If you've ever wanted to send that obnoxious relative somewhere far away now is your chance!

PS. That pic is the Perseverance rover, launching 30 July 2020, if you signed up back in 2019 you'll be on it ... pack your bags.

After being kind of dead for awhile it seems Sagelight is once more under development:

From the blog, (first post in 5 years):
SAGELIGHT IS BACK — AND ITS FREE

After a long hiatus, Sagelight editor is back.

Version 4 is now free, which is something I’ve wanted to try for a long time — give away Sagelight (or a version of it) and see of the pay-what-you-want/donation model can work enough to support Sagelight.  I’m looking at a donation model for version 4, and it would be great if it works.

I am currently writing Version 5 (which is about 70% completed), which has a lot of new changes, including a newly-revamped UI about which I am excited.

...

If you are a previous owner of Sagelight, download this version as an update.  It’s exactly the same except for the bug fixes and a few changes.

...

Rob

Sagelight can be downloaded from the main website: Sagelight Image Editor

After installation it has the version number 4.4h (b) which is the last paid version I have, (from 2013).

ADDENDUM: For an insight into what the author had to cope with during the time development was halted I recommend you read his forum post.

This is more a Public Service Announcement in case there are those who don't know about MOOCs, (Massively Open Online Courses), or just want to fill in a few hours each week learning something new.

Prompted by this post on OzBargain: Free - 690 Online Courses in IT

There are -
179 beginner level courses

This took me over an hour to prepare so I hope all the links are right!

Windows Firewall Control

Previously to get Notifications in WFC you had to donate, all the other features were available for free.

With the latest version it is now free with no activation.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What's new in version 5.4.0.0 (01.08.2018)

- New: The notifications system is now available for free and the program does not
require activation anymore.

- New: The installer and the files are now digitally signed.
- Updated: A new EULA is available when installing the software.
- Reverted: Secure Rules feature was reverted to the old implementation from version
5.0.2.0. The implementation from versions 5.1.x.x-5.3.x.x creates too many problems
than it solves.
- Fixed: Under certain circumstances, Connections Log displays nothing in Windows 10.
- Fixed: 'Use proxy configuration' is checked even if the user presses the Cancel
button in the proxy configuration dialog.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Most likely due to Malwarebytes taking over the development by having Binisoft's developer join their team.

NOTE: You'll need to uninstall a previous version to upgrade to v5.4.0.0, either export/import your current firewall rules or select the option to keep the current rules when you uninstall, (by default it resets the rules to Windows default on uninstall).

That said, I seem to be getting an installer error when I try to install it so don't be too hasty deleting the previous version installer :-\

ADDENDUM: The problem was MBAM's Self Protection Module, it needed to be disabled and then installation worked.

A review of v3 that I did some time ago, much has changed but the core operation it is still similar.

Trying to recover files from an external today and was running up against permission problems so I thought I'd install SetACL Studio.

It's been mentioned a few times on DC, last being in 2015.

It was a commercial product with a 30 day free trial period, since January 2017 it has been free for personal and commercial use.

License code for SetACL Studio is on the Download page.

SetACL Studio is a management tool for Windows permissions. It combines powerful features with an extremely intuitive user interface. It works with files, folders, registry keys, printers, network shares, services and WMI objects. It supports very long file system paths and bypasses security to display information about the remotest corner of the system. And it has undo.

Delprof2 – User Profile Deletion Tool - Used to be free for personal use, now free for commercial use also.

Delprof2 is the unofficial successor to Microsoft’s Delprof which does not work with operating systems newer than Windows XP. Here are the main facts:

  • Delprof2 is syntax compatible to the original Delprof, but more powerful
  • Delprof2 lets you explicitly specify which profiles to delete
  • Delprof2 bypasses security to delete profiles regardless of current permissions/owner
  • Delprof2 supports very long paths
  • Delprof2 works on all modern versions of Windows
  • Delprof2 is free for personal and commercial use

DC Website Help and Extras / Mobile access ... no way to log out
« on: January 13, 2018, 05:18 PM »
Subject pretty much says it all, there's no way to log out when browsing the DC site using a mobile.

There used to be ... but only if I rotated the screen to landscape aspect, now there's nothing.

FHD, same as my computer monitor, so plenty of pixels available.

An idea, instead of "Greetings ????", perhaps just the  user name followed by (Logout) ... that's pretty much what is there on most sites I visit.

I know the site is transitioning so more a question of why something that was there and is a rather fundamental item of most, if not all, websites has disappeared.

ASUS have a special on cloud storage, cheap enough but has some limitations.

1TB @ $5.49 for a year, 200GB @ $3.99 for a year.

Unknown whether this is a recurring discount or applies to first year only.

For someone who wants to try some cheap cloud storage with (limited) versioning, can't hurt to try it at this price.

You need to enter and submit an email address to receive the links (Windows/Mac) and registration, (Airmail works if you want to use a disposable):
Link: DxO OpticsPro 11 Essential

I could post the download links but there's no point since the registration codes are individually created.

DxO OpticsPro is a unique piece of software for both Mac and windows, it makes corrections to your images based on the exact make and model of camera and lens that you used to take the shot.

DxO OpticsPro 11 user interface will be somewhat similar to Lightroom, but it offers specialist image-correction tools that go beyond what’s offered by most of the competitors. With its range of built-in camera and lens algorithms, DxO OpticsPro can automatically correct flaws with incredible speed and effectiveness.

Makes a nice upgrade to the free v9 I've recently been using, non-destructive effects like the now discontinued Picasso.

Stunning detail of levels, in-depth gameplay, finely tuned balance of all levels and turrets.

With every level you will have the use of new weapons at your command. It is up to you, commander, how to spend the resources: restore and upgrade your veteran units or to purchase some new ones.

Different types of weaponry and landscape provide you with a variety of choices of defence tactics.
Choosing the right weapons and the correct placement is key to any successful defense.
The weapons have different firepower, rate of fire, firing range, blast radius and price.

Advertising can be turned off free of charge in any version of the game.

Defense Zone 2 HD 4.6 Rating
The new, engaging levels are even more stunning and impressive. New weapons have been added, along with new opponents, and even more action and tactics.

The game supports four languages: English, Russian, French and German.

The game settings are balanced to meet the goals of different players. If you want to test your skills and strategy, you can play the difficult level. If you are just playing for fun, then choose easy or medium level.

Greater variety of weaponry and landscape types gives you huge freedom in choosing your battle tactics. Choose the right weapon type and position to make sure your defense is effective. Airstrikes and the possibility of temporarily increasing weapon power can give you the advantage, and guarantee you will never get bored in the battle process.

Advertising can be turned off free of charge in any version of the game.

Defense Zone 3 HD 4.6 Rating
Welcome to the long-awaited sequel to the popular action/strategy game! New weapons, landscapes, and options galore! Every game session is now even more dynamic and amazing.

The core of the game is still the same: entire armies of enemies rush at your defenses, trying to destroy them by any means necessary. But now they’re even more powerful and madder than ever.

You’ll have access to older, time-tested turrets, as well as completely new types of weapons. It’s up to you to decide how to spend your available budget. Should you build new towers or upgrade and fortify the ones you already have? Turrets vary in terms of their attack range, firing speed, and damage type. The only way to win is to combine them so that they complement and strengthen one another.

The flexible difficulty settings will allow every player to get as much enjoyment out of the game as possible. If you’re an experienced commander, you’ll love the merciless, intense battles where the countdown where even a fraction of a second is vital to success and everything hinges on your ability to choose and arrange your turrets wisely. If you’re a new player, you’ll easily be able to train and prepare yourself for serious battles.

Either way, the thoughtfully designed maps and wide range of available turrets will provide you with virtually endless tactical options. Thanks to the stunning, detailed landscapes, painstakingly drawn towers, and incredible special effect, you won’t be able to take your eyes off the screen.

All aspects of the game have been meticulously balanced, including tower statistics, enemy strength, terrain characteristics, and special weapons. You’ll never get bored by too-easy gameplay. Every level will challenge you. Are you ready to accept the challenge?

Features:
• Four difficulty levels
• Eight kinds of turrets
• Eight special abilities, from Air Strikes to Nuclear Bombs
• Varied seasons and types of landscapes
• Support for over 20 languages

Access to pics and multimedia is nesessary for that reason, that game can load the obb file. It is installed into external storage (memory) on some devices.

According to OzB the games are 120MB, 180MB, and 338MB respectively.

General Software Discussion / Google Nik Collection
« on: December 31, 2016, 10:33 PM »
Couldn't find anything mentioning it here so for those that like their image processing software, (eg. Curt :D ), Google Nik Collection has been available free for awhile.

Today we’re making the Nik Collection available to everyone, for free.

The Nik Collection is comprised of seven desktop plug-ins that provide a powerful range of photo editing capabilities -- from filter applications that improve color correction, to retouching and creative effects, to image sharpening that brings out all the hidden details, to the ability to make adjustments to the color and tonality of images.
