ProcessTamer / ProcessTamer for Windows 98 SE?
« on: August 11, 2009, 06:51 PM »
Hi all,

I know that ProcessTamer only works on Windows 2000 and higher, but is there a similar program for Windows 98 SE? I am running an old box and every now and then Opera's CPU usage spikes a ton for no reason and I want to control this.

Thanks. :)

General Review Discussion / Re: Daemon Tools
« on: September 21, 2006, 07:05 PM »
I agree, a nice review. Daemon Tools is an extremely handy tool. I personally hate having to keep sticking CDs in my computer to play certain games, it increases the wear and tear. Now when I get a game, I make an ISO and keep the original in a safe place. This doesn't work for all games, but for a good number, especially old ones.

Find And Run Robot / Not showing history?
« on: May 10, 2006, 08:37 AM »
Hi,

Find & Run Robot is great, thanks for making it. :)

However, is there any way to disable the showing of the previously ran programs? When I run a program it shows in the list the next time I bring up the application. Can this be turned off?

I'm still working on it, sorry for the delay. Jobs get in the way of fun. :)

I'm an avid fan of EditPlus, but I'd love to give your software a try. I'll get back here after I do. :)

Sweet. I don't see a review for EditPlus. Let me get started on one and I'll post there when I am done.

Great review, thank you for it. But some of the products have short descriptions and comments. :)

I tried the trial of UltraEdit and it is impressive, but I still personally prefer EditPlus over anything else. I've  tried PSPad, and it's definitely the best free one. The only things EditPlus needs:

- Bottom status bar: Add last modified date/time.
- Bottom status bar: Add size of file.
- For User Tools, in addition to "Save Open Files", add check box for "Save Current File".
- Get a web forum for support.
- I've had issues with FTPing and viewing links on UNIX systems.
- Skins would be sweet.
- Hex Mode.
- Code folding.

I use EditPlus at work (I'm a software engineer), and aside from a full blown coding IDE like Eclipse or NetBeans, EditPlus is great even for coding. Personally, it's on the top of my list.

Do you guys here accept reviews of individual products from members? I've used EditPlus extensively and know much about it. I love comparing and studying software.

There is also Weather Pulse as an alternative.   When I compared Weather Pulse (WP) against the previous version of Weather Watcher (WW),  the two seemed very similar to me.   I chose WP because I preferred some small detail of its presentation.   When I chose WP I don't think I was aware of malware issues with WW.   Does anyone know of malware issues with WP?

Pricelessware,  which I think highly of,  lists Weather Watcher but not Weather Pulse (http://www.pricelessware.org/).

I was also going to suggest this. I've been using WeatherPulse for over a year and it's superb. It's had some issues in previous versions with memory leaks but they have been removed. Weater Watcher is a great choice as well, but I personally perfer WP. The Docklet is almost like the Konfabulator tool but doesn't look as cool.

I must say Squeez is very impressive and the fact that it FULLY (not just reads, but creates) nearly every format you could want makes it even better. The only issues I have with it are:

- Like said in the review, having multiple popup windows each time you insert a file can be quite useful but can get annoying. An option to turn it off would be great.
- I know some German, but English is my primary language, so English help files would be great, since there's an English website too.
- That peach coloured bar in between the files and the archive is useful but I wish I could turn it off.
- I wish there were some more skins. You can change the look of the program but not the icons. Winrar has some great skins, and it affects the file icon and associations icon which is a great touch.

As is, Squeez is a sweet program, but with these additions, I think it would totally superb.
