Hi Mouser  ;D

really nice idea  :Thmbsup: - But I have some kind of feature request: I really would like, to see is an option to store the dates / schedules / reminder in the calendar. Not only with Goolge Calendar, but all with configured caldav syncprovider (I run my own caldav server using Baical). This would give a cross-platform desktop client for free. Maybe you would like to consider it for some future release.

Bye bye

Living Room / Re: Board Game Review Site Roundup
« on: August 26, 2010, 10:56 AM »
Nice Topic  :Thmbsup: Board Game Geek is one if not the best Board Games Site on the net. Are Board Games becoming some kind of a trend in the US? Here in Germany they are "big" for years (well, at least among Geeks and Nerds ;)), but I read more and more English posts about games the last, lets say 1 - 1.5 years...

{ My wife and I are strange in that we don't watch TV.  Instead we spend our nights playing games }
Hehe - I know two other guys who abandoned TV entirely and focus on games or good books - we usually meet once or twice a week for a Game-Night.

Sure...I'm happy to work together on it.  Just let me know what you'll need.

Very nice -  right now I got no time to plan - I will come back to you this weekend :-)

Maybe you should expand this idea into a simple website.  This way you can 'check the list' while shopping to make sure you don't buy something that is on your friends list that may be expiring.
I think the idea is perfect for a web app so its not tied to a single desktop.
yep, would make a fun website idea too, in case any other coder wants to tackle this coding snack.

Aye, somebody else feel free.  I know next to nothing about web coding.

Hmmm... I think I would like to port this :-) Are there any planned features comming in the near future? It would be great to "sync" it with the Desktop version, so you can "look" into your frige with your mobile phone while you are shopping...
Are you interested in working together on the sync thing, or is the app "closed" in your opinion?

the tables are comming from various sources - copied HTML tables, Excel spreadsheets, CSV Files, copied from PDF reports etc. - but most of the time they are  just "from scratch".
I will have a look at CONVERT - thanks :)

General Software Discussion / Searching a Text-Table tool...
« on: July 27, 2009, 07:23 PM »
Hi,

I often have to insert tables into plaintext emails. Formating them in a texteditor is very time consuming. I found a nice tool on the Mac and wonder if there is something like this on windows. Any ideas?

thanks and bye
Andreas

Hello again,

@echo off
REM File which is dropped onto the Batch File
set infile=%1%

REM change the WorkingDirectory to the folder which contains the dropped file
REM The new file table.txt will be created in the same folder as the source file
cd /d %1\..

REM Do the transformation
"C:\Program Files\GnuWin32\bin\sed.exe" -e "s/,/\[\/td\]\[td\]/g" "%infile%" > temp1.txt
"C:\Program Files\GnuWin32\bin\sed.exe" -e "s/$/\[\/td\]\[\/tr]/g" temp1.txt > temp2.txt
"C:\Program Files\GnuWin32\bin\sed.exe" -e "s/^/\[tr\]\[td\]/g" temp2.txt > temp1.txt

REM Build the output
echo
> table.txt
type temp1.txt >> table.txt
echo
>>  table.txt

REM Cleanup
del temp1.txt
del temp2.txt

I changed the script to work with comma as separator - the other versions used ";". If it does not work add "PAUSE" (without the quotes) at the end of the batch file (it prevents the command window from being closed) and post the contents and maybe a demo file which should be transformed.

bye :)

Hi Tomos,

in which folder have you installed your sed.exe? Lets assume it is in "C:\Program Files\Gnu\Sed\", than you should change the bat-file like this to ensure your sed.exe is found (this is what I meant by "change the path"):
@echo off
set infile=%1%
"C:\Program Files\Gnu\Sed\sed.exe" -e "s/;/\[\/td\]\[td\]/g" "%infile%" > temp1.txt
"C:\Program Files\Gnu\Sed\sed.exe" -e "s/$/\[\/td\]\[\/tr]/g" temp1.txt > temp2.txt
"C:\Program Files\Gnu\Sed\sed.exe" -e "s/^/\[tr\]\[td\]/g" temp2.txt > temp1.txt
echo
> table.txt
type temp1.txt >> table.txt
echo
>>  table.txt
del temp1.txt
del temp2.txt

Hope that helps  :)

bye bye

Btw: If you drop a file on the bat-file, the path of the dropped file is stored in %1%

Hi all,
I have to cancel my participation this year - I can not make it in time  :down: - WPF is such a huge beast - sorry

I think I can find the time to participate this year - but I have no Idea what I will code, yet  :P

14
i still think that System Path Commander deserved a lot more attention than it ever got
totally agree - its one of the first tools I install on a fresh machine. It's really cool, but It doesn't work on vista :(

//edit:
Oh - I see it has been updated -  I assume it works with vista (by looking at the screenshots) - very nice :)

I really like http://snipplr.com/ as alternative to pastebin :) - the only drawback: no download version, so you couldn't host it for yourself

General Software Discussion / Re: Forum 2.0 Suggestion
« on: September 08, 2008, 11:36 AM »
I would love to have a Forum as a pseudo frontend to a mailinglist. I think this to should go hand in hand. I would like to reply to a post via email or start new topics by either using the webform or sending a email - maybe with some keywords in the topic. By subscribing to the list (maybe each sub-forum has its own) you would have all the info available offline.

17
Pixvue - this was such cool must have if you are dealing with a lot of images... You can find 2.01 on some Archive sites, but the homepage is gone :(

18
What you want to do is change the working directory of the calling program, yes?
Yes, this is what I would like to do.

I dunno if this is possible to do in any clean way.
I fear it is not :(, at least not in a clean way...

Thing is, Current Working Directory is managed per-thread, not per-process. So the solution hack I'm thinking of would require finding your parent process (requires undocumented calls, iirc)
I tried something in that way. It is very very very slow  :down:
Code: C# [Select]
 1. string pName = Process.GetCurrentProcess().ProcessName.ToString();
 2. Process[] pList = Process.GetProcessesByName(pName);
 3. // Getting the Process ID
 4. PerformanceCounter PID = new PerformanceCounter("Process", "ID Process", pName);
 5.
 6. // Getting the Parent Process ID
 7. PerformanceCounter PPID = new PerformanceCounter("Process", "Creating Process ID", pName);
 8.
 9. // Getting the Precess
 10. Process p = Process.GetProcessById(int.Parse(PPID.NextValue().ToString()));
 11.
 12. //trying to change the Dir... - which results in a Crash...
 13. p.StandardInput.WriteLine("CD {0}",path);

A less hackish method would probably be running your tool from a batch file, and having the batch file CHDIR to the new folder.
This is a really good Idea and would be perfect if the Directory after finishing would be always the same (it is not), but how can I redirect only the last program Output to the Batchfile instead of all Output. The tool needs some (interactive) Userinput, so I can't capture all of the output...?

Thanks for the input f0dder :)

//edit: Idea:
The Batch have to look like this:
Code: C [Select]
 1. call my_tool.exe
 2. call my_temp.bat

The my_temp.bat have to be created by my_tool.exe on the fly before finishing... I believe this will work...
Code: C [Select]
 1. cd _DIR_

Hi all,

I have to write a tool which starts and runs on the shell (cmd.exe). It does some logic, takes some input from the user and finishes. Right before it finishes it should change the directory from which it was called. I have no clue if this is even possible. I tried to get the parent process and alter it this way, which results in crashes...

C:\Home>my_tool.exe
   ...doing some stuff...
   ...doing some stuff...
   ...doing some stuff...
   ...some user input....
   ...doing some stuff...
   ...finishing...
D:\Data\Documents>

Any Idea how to do this?

Duke Nukem Forever, anyone?
Confirmed for 2008 http://www.pcwelt.de..._confirmed_for_2008/ - LOL  :-\

I run Vista for the last 18 Month, but I'm going to switch back to XP. Vista is nice, but in my opinion XP "feels" better. I haven't had problems with Vista, but it feels weird - like something is not matching... Cant describe what it is :-\

23
Yeah - thats the attitube I was looking for  ;D - I will do some research on this  :)

24
This is so cool - thanks a lot - never thought about such an extension but it saves me a lot of time now  :Thmbsup:

Yeah - I know this page, its cool for inspiration but you have to configure your editor by hand (or do I miss the option) - my idea is to store the submitted (color) settings and generate the appropriate colorscheme-file for your editor (which is in most cases an .ini or xml file). One theme stored, X theme-files generated :)
