Hello All,

I was surprised when I got the e-mail from mouser. Has it really been that long? I guess a combination of switching to Ubuntu for a few years (college experimentation  ) and having my life consumed with school, dating my now wife , and work. Sorry, I was away for so long! It's amazing to think that back in 2007 I was still doing my undergraduate degree.I'm glad to see others are still with us!

SpySweeper is ok..it does its job (not that well compared to some of its..free competitors). I tried it out once (cousin had it). Didn't like the resource usage though.

Hmm this is hard for me to answer. I love the portability my laptop offers me, but I despite how I'm locked in hardware wise and the power it sometimes lacks (in the graphics department). Even if I had gotten a video card in my laptop it would've been outdated quickly (compared to better timing on graphics card in the desktop market).

And the hard drive space is also an issue..160 GBs vs my desktop's 600+ GBs.

Don't you have to format these drives before using them? How do they keep the virus?

If I recall, you just plug them in and they're usually preformatted to NTFS. Though I usually format them before using them. Plus the drive doesn't always work.. like the externals, I had to reformat it before it would work properly.

I bought a rechargeable Logitech Wireless MX1000 mouse a couple years ago. I've had problems with the mouse jumping around the screen or not responding to movement. Contacted tech support and they said it the receiver needs to be 1 foot away from electrical equipment. Excuse me? A mouse that needs to be away from electrical devices?

I've had the mouse die on my a few times while in use, but to be honest it hasn't happened in a while because I hardly use the thing. I much prefer my trackball as it requires less desktop space and doesn't hurt my wrist.

If I were to get another wireless mouse in the future, I think I'd go for the rechargeable AA batteries option.

Yeah Logitech mouses are weird. I love my wireless mouse though..being able to use it on my bed in the dorm is nice (no problems charging it since I remember to put it back into its slot when I'm going out). Though I do prefer my laptop's battery operated Logitech VX Revolution. The battery life that thing gets is insane..

Ah yes it'd probably help to specify more. Well the survey will have questions that people can answer on a scale from 0-10 (or 0-5). Then there's some open response questions so there needs to be input forms.

For my english project I am working on a qualitative study regarding videogame violence and people's cognitions and behavior on it. Because this study has to be done in a month it has to be something quick (like an online survey). At the moment I like surveymonkey but the 10 question limitation is going hurt. I need a free survey site, any suggestions?

I use to use GDS. But I stopped cause I hated the search results interface. And the software shells like GDS extreme weren't being updated anymore.

I don't see how you could do it without virtual desktops? Maybe it's refined virtual desktops? Unless you mean when I switch roles, everything in the gaming section is ended/killed when I switch to media role.

Interesting.. I have a ton of pictures on my desktop and laptop (for my laptop I use them as backgrounds..switch every 3 minutes).

Would be awesome if I could have the pictures show up randomly on the picture frame.

If your going get Linux on a laptop, I'd say..

1) Go with a Dell laptop (they sell Ubuntu with it)
2) Go with a Macbook (the hardware is pretty uniform so most fixes to broken things like webcams would be easier)
3) Go with a laptop that is documented on the forums to have mostly everything work.

My VAIO is a pain to get working (well at least the webcam at least). Everything else pretty much works without trouble. My next laptop I purchase (after I finish grad school or near the end of it) will be a Dell or a Macbook Pro.

Oh god don't remind me about Sony laptops. I'll never buy one again (well the one I have was bought for me by my parents earlier this year). At least not until they

a) stop putting stickers everywhere (ugh)
b) stop shortchanging, it says it has bluetooth support, but then I find out that you have to buy this Sony module lol. I just bought some 15 dollar bluetooth USB stick that works just as well.

Yeah I did notice it was probably due to the networking in China. But at the same time it's also interesting because since patents and copyright infringements aren't as enforced in China it's interesting to see these things pop up. Makes you wonder what may be possible if copyrights/patents weren't so messed up in the US.

(note I do think that copyrights have a purpose but the amount of time they last is absurd). For copyright reform I'd just want them to reduce the amount of time you could hold a copyright.

Compiz Fusion has something like that, but for windows (that are already opened) it's called Shift Switcher. Linux only I'm afraid . I'd kill for something like that in Windows lol.

But I use FARR for Windows and Alt+F2 and type in what I need for Linux. Or the Terminal, since I can give all my programs keywords or shortcuts to use.

Well I'm not worried much about the boot sectors since I use Grub instead of Windows' boot loader. But yeah, I do have to be cautious.

I usually turn off my computer when it's not doing anything. But if I have it doing something (say downloading or uploading something) I'll leave it on and online.

Though I'm friends with an architecture major and she's going help me design and build an eco friendly house (building green). I got some great inspirating from visiting the Cheseapeak Bay Foundation HQ back in high school.

Yeah, I joined that forum a few days ago. Did some searching to see if my hardware will work. Apparantly the wireless doesn't work (well it does but on bare functionality..no encryption support).

But I'll go ahead with it once I have time to make a 15 GB partition for it.
