Haha wow. That's surprising (I guess they remove it from the database?)

General Software Discussion / Re: What's your preferred File Manager

I had the same problem, but it has to do with the way the Sansa player shows up in the computer. I think there's a setting in the device to have it show up as a HDD device instead of a mp3 player. Which will then allow XYplorer to see it.

Haha seems I find a neat community with other psychologists. I'm a student in psychology right now. But my intent is to go into graduate school in cognitive science or industrial organization. So far most of my experience with cognitive psychology has been the lab I work in for Human-Computer interaction. I'd love to get an idea about what graduate schools have a strong program for cognitive psychology though. It's getting about that time where I start applying.  ;D

I should be able to run it on my desktop relatively full time (if I decide to switch between Ubuntu and XP) or I have to restart. Dunno if it'll go through Maryland's servers correctly though.

Living Room / Re: How much RAM do you have on your PC?
« on: September 16, 2007, 07:20 PM »
On my desktop: 1 GB, on my laptop: 2 GB

Well for those who turn off updates. They may wait for the general reports (like I do) from other people installing them.

If people start reporting viruses all across Windows computers after an update..well I could probably guess where it came from :P.

32
I agree. My Windows installs are set to let me choose if I want to update. And for good reason too, as Windows update has occasionally caused problems in my home network (for a few days to a week a networked HP Printer was offline due to an imcompatibility). So I made sure nobody in my family updated their computers till that was fixed. But if they're silently updating..well that defeats the point doesn't it?

33
Yeah, I have one of those laptops lol. Doesn't have a graphics card in it though (intergrated) so I can't play any modern games with it. It even chugs on Morrowind -_-. Oh well, it was meant for school use anyway.

I personally don't like the win+tab (the new alt+tab I'm guessing that your talking about). Flip 3D doesn't really do it for me when I'm trying to find a window.

34
Cool, if only I could close apps with middle click like I can with scale (also like the OSX Expose) in Compiz Fusion in Linux.

35
One thing I don't like though is how they default their program to opening the protocal with their client (until you change it in the browser). Clicking on torrents would cue a prompt asking me if I wanted to download it with Opera (their prompt). It took a while before I figured out how to set it in the browser to automatically make it open in utorrent or Ktorrent.

And cool, I'm running the Alpha besides the current released version. Interesting seeing the differences.

36
Well it is illegal (though I personally think it shouldn't be). And it's Microsoft that wanted users to use Vista Ultimate for parallels users. Even though any of them work (more money for Microsoft I guess).

37
Maybe your quicktime is outdated? Anyway, I think Vista is supported, but Microsoft wants you to use Vista Ultimate if your going run it in Parallels or what not.

I'm not Mac savvy though. I'm a primary Linux user now lol. But I've taken features from both Windows and Mac and incorporated it into my Linux install. :)

38
Wait, so the bookmarks would be kinda like del.ic.ious?

39
I don't get it? Could you explain it to me? It sounds confusing. Is it like using Firefox and Opera and creating a specific search function at each site. Then compiling them all together into one area? Or are you talking about bookmarking the sites into a search engine?

40
Ohh, exactly what I was looking for when dealing with the Vista sidebar size. Thank you!

General Software Discussion / Re: PC Hate

Silly person, doesn't  he know Macs are PCs?  Meh, people really start learning the differences between hardware, software (OS), and the machines themselves.

1) Pidgin
2) Mozilla Thunderbird w/ Lightning
3) Opera/Firefox

What if the person just closes the laptop lid to put it in sleep or hibernate? Though I think if a person is going take your laptop if the alarm starts they'll just run faster lol.

I may do that sometime, since I just do the same thing with my debit card right now.

I think you still get a good credit score if you have a card (but not use it). Not sure though. I still don't  have a credit card (I turned 20 on the 3rd.) and I just have a debit card. And I watch my balance carefully and I make sure to always keep my money around 400 dollars. Right now I'm below but that's because I haven't deposited my money into it yet (birthday money lol).

Living Room / Re: Do you listen to the radio?
« on: August 06, 2007, 04:03 PM »
Nah I stopped listening to radio a long time ago (got tired of the repetitive songs) though the broadcasts were ok and amusing sometimes. Though now I just listen to online radio or grab some podcasts and listen to them.

I've talked to my dad about this myself since I've been wondering about it (I figured I'd get one with no annual rate and leave it at home with my parents). My dad told me if your going look for one with rewards (or kickbacks) then make sure they don't give points like my debit card does. Because points can't be spent anywhere (only on what the card dealer deals with). For example my card only lets me redeem my points for items they've listed (such as starbucks).

Try to get one that actually returns cash to you. Because with points, they're worthless till you get enough to redeem them (and if your mindset is you want to redeem them, then your spending more money).

Since this is Windows I use foobar as my main mp3 player. I have two versions of it (one is the default with no GUI changes). Which may look boring, but it's extremely easy to tag with it and create a playlist. Then I have a foobar with a iTunes like interface (well just the artist/album split).

Though I also use Songbird (though it's a pain to update the library) and it's still new. I also have subsonic running on my desktop (in both Linux and Windows) so if there's music that's not on my laptop I can stream it from there. Though I have to say my favorite has to be Exaile (Linux only). It's inspired by KDE's Amarok which has a Windows version coming with its 2.0 release.

That's a great rap video. I think I'm going go buy the song (not on iTunes though.. ugh).
