Post New Requests Here / Re: An idea: "Personal Censor"
« on: January 06, 2007, 01:05 AM »
I could have sworn that fellow DC member Allen's ReReplace did that, but checking it out now I don't see that feature. You could send him a personal message and invite him to add that feature. I doubt it would be very difficult.

Even though ReReplace isn't what you're looking for now, it is quite a handy online find and replace utility that accepts Regular Expressions and displays highlighted results to boot!
Sounds promising.

Post New Requests Here / IDEA: "Personal Censor"
« on: January 06, 2007, 12:35 AM »
I had a thought in regard to the tagging/NSFW debate that seems to recur periodically.  I was wondering if there was a tool that could be a "Personal Censor?"  I'm not real sure how it would work exactly, but if there was a utility that could be programmed for the individual tastes which would censor out what one does not want to read without butchering the author's real message, it could be of some value, I think?

I really don't have too many demands for note taking, but it is mandatory that there is a powerful find-as-you-type search capability, like in Evernote 2.  :two:

Living Room / "Tax Dollars"
« on: January 05, 2007, 02:35 AM »
When an audit comes prepare for the day.
When you are in a hole and the tax man hollers.
Remind him of how the workers stand around
Watching one worker dig, but no other follers.

His argument will be "Pay what you owe!"
Even on the day you're carried by pall-ers
He doesn't care that you're in the ground
He'll still demand you pay all your tax dollars.

 :P

Very nice find.  I learned something today! :)

Good thoughts!  It would be a very helpful function, especially if one wants to avoid having to go through the password dialog to keep working.  I sometimes get distracted researching in books, discussing with colleagues, etc. only to turn around and not see what I last saw on the screen.  This could really help with that bother.

982
FYI -  I have been testing this today and sometimes it does grab focus.  It just happened as I was typing in UltraEdit Studio and no more letters went to the screen eventhough I was still typing.  Earlier today this did not happen.  I couldn't see what I was typing, but when the slide faded I could see what I had typed.

983
Can you set up a [CTRL]+[Spacebar] or [ALT]+[Spacebar] to immediately clear the slide?  In my continued use of your app all day long, that is something that would really be helpful!

... then again, I have duplicated similar traits when working with Excel too!

If you need help with the reviews, anyone can help... just ask.  :)

Arjen, I have always thought that if something produced that kind of reation, it would best be left undisturbed.

987
I don't experience this either, but I'm using the original version posted on 1-1.  BTW - Great app!

988
That sounds equitable and motivational.  When I have something worth reading, I'll give a heads-up.

Top of the line, Tinjaw!  Looks great!

Hang in there, we're burning some midnight oil over here too!  We'll make it, just keep on keeping on!

It really bothers me when I see someone who wants to just bury his head in the sand and ignore the reality of the true lessons of history.  I have offered you to explore for yourself.  The problem is venting your own opinions without considering how someone less knowledgeable and dependent on others.  I have found my data on the subject and you would not accept what I copied here, so why should I bother?  It's there for anyone.  Get out your shovel and go to work.

You can mock me if you want, but history is irrefutable.

Ok... I'll see what I can do to match these shortcomings.  Thanks for the help, though!

Alright, I have limitations I was not anticipating, but I have to do something.  The user has to depend on hearing the sounds fast, sharp and clear.  What would you suggest?

I need some help with getting simultaneous sounds to play and I can't make it work.

I have some questions I'd like you to address...
  • What would Hitler's deceased Jews say about Google?
  • Ditto for Stalin's 50,000,000?
  • Ditto for Mao Tse Tung's millions?
  • Ditto for Saddam Hussein's political rivals?
  • Ditto for [fill in the blank, there's plenty of others]?

998
Hmmm... I'll check it out and see what I can do.

999
Another great point, if this was all that Google did I would not have concerns, but taken in the context of their other activities, does it not leave room to question their motives and future plans?

Mouser,

I'd say go for it. It looks like community sites will be all the craze in 2007. This site contains excellent content; it'd be stupid not to make enough money to pay rent while offering good content, while others pocket a lot of money for similar ideas but implemented in a 'me too' way. Also, the new cash could make for new features that benefit all the posters; it may help you think bigger.

Just my 2c.

Good arguments.  Man, this is a thorny problem.  My biggest problem is not that DC can use the money and that it would create growth revenue as urlwolf so eloquently cited.  Unfortunately, this need/opportunity does not nullify the reasons for my concern, in the first place.  The fact is the entity of Big "G" is an informational gathering entity.  Information is knowledge and knowledge is power.  Therefore, Google is power.  The question is "how" will that power be used?  I have gathered some data that is not very comforting.  Imagine "how" Hitler, etc. would have used such data?   Frankly, I am not sure I could remain associated with DC if Google was to be adopted.  I certainly have no right to tell Mouser what to do, but I feel it is a courtesy to him to let him know when I don't like something.  How else would he know?
