Does that include flying spaghetti sauce?  I hope so, it will make a great sitcom skit!  :)

Ok, time for a closure to all this...

The whole issue presented itself because I had "perceived" what looked to me as corruption and greed, not to mention abuse of power.  In response I championed the cause of what I had come to care deeply about, ie., the "special" part that is DC.  This is to my credit, if there had actually been skullduggery.

I have to say that the very ones I saw as the villains turned out to be heroes after all.  The time and care with which Chris and Jessie have exerted to help me, a relative newbie to DC, understand not only their actions, but their intent is admirable.  In the end, it was they have been vindicated and I have shown myself a little quick on the trigger.  Lesson learned.

To any that have read through this thread, I must offer at least some apology and exhort you to increase your confidence in the value that Mouser has carved out of the grab bag of the Internet.

I am glad to be a part.

@Andersen - I really was not trying to make a federal anything.  I do; however, am very vocal when there "appears" that mis-doings are afoot.  I have never been able to allow corruption to go unchallenged and at times I have suffered for it.  C'est la vie!  The real issue here is that due to lack of understanding, events were perceived by myself that I evaluated would undermine the value of what I have known DC to possess.  My error.  I am also aware that your position in knowing Mouser longer than myself have a track record that provoked your concern.  I certainly do not fault you for that.  All is well.

Storm in a tea cup.

Had Mouser not been concerned with open communication he need never have posted here at all.

A very valid point.  The fact that we are even having this discussion is evidence that no wrongdoing has been perpetrated.

I also want to say one thing.  I have spent my programming life putting the 'community' before my needs.  I have dedicated countless hours to newsgroups, developing software, asssisting other developers, and just trying to make other people better without worrying about what I get in return.  This was just another way to give back without worrying about lining my own pockets.

I hope people understand that mouser and myself did this with good intentions.

(mouser / DC and me / Veign are not working together in anyway.  I only know of him through these forums)

I do have to admit that the effort that is being put into clarifying this situation is very helpful.

ps2. It might help to put things in perspective if you knew that I have been working my a** off recently to get us donated prizes for the game programming contest (vrgirl too!).  It is not fun work, in fact it is downright exhausting.  The C++ Builder contest was far more work than I expected, and frankly these contests may really be just more trouble than they are worth for a small site like ours.  And I don't get any of those prizes - I don't get anything but the satisfaction of having good stuff for people to win, and the satisfaction of knowing that the site improves and becomes a better place that more people will like and that people who are already here will like more (i hope).

I wouldn't dream of entering any contest or giveaway we have on the site; never have, never will.  If I had awarded the contest prize to myself I would expect everyone here to be furious, and rightly so.  Hope it's clear now that that's not what happened.

I appreciate the additional input.

Note to the Reader
The following posts refer to a heated debate that ensued after I was affronted by the fact that the second prize was donated to DC.  If I had it in my power, I would edit more than mine, but I do not possess it and the other posters have not felt an inclination to do so.  The Reader will be able to readily comprehend the nature of my protests by the words of rebuttal and explanation.  The main thing I wish to say is I am now happy and content that the package has found a worthy owner.  I am also content with all of those with whom I was crossways  The fact of the matter is that all is now well and the participants at DC will enjoy the benefits of Chris' (Veign) and Jessie's (Mouser) decision.

1060
I can only promise that I/we will use it to create good programs for all of you.
And again, thank you Chris for this incredible gift.

That is a good one!  ;D

Congrats to a worthy recipient!

I will be using AAO to try to organize my time for a project since I no longer have a job to worry about.  I really enjoyed that job.

General Review Discussion / An Idea - Reviewer "Champions"
« on: October 16, 2006, 07:51 PM »
How about using "Champions" (the ones who are the most enthusiastic) to do the leg-work? People tend to work harder for those things they really like.  These "Champions" could be the liaisons for contact and filling in the details.

[Edit - Clarification]

Here is something I came up with.  It has served me well...
"A Professional is one who knows enough about what one is doing...
to know one does not know enough about what one is doing."

Perhaps if someone could make a dummy image mockup?  That might give a better framework for us to craft helpful ideas.

Thanks, Gerome.  I don't know that "[fill in the blank]++" is my forte, but I'll dip my toe in the water and see. ;)

Living Room / UltraEdit Studio IDE
« on: October 03, 2006, 02:12 AM »
Anyone used the new UE Studio IDE?  I would be interested in if the IDE is worth the extra $$$ or if the text editor is good enough?  Thanks for the help.

Wow nice list!  I'm considering some candidates, but I'd like to get some feedback from some users.

I've dabbled in the C++, but I can't make my mind up that I have the time (or dedication) to use it.  :-\   Thanks for the link, though.

Just out of curiosity... do you think that maybe the reason that M$ has gotten a bad rap is because they have always been a high-visibility, widespread target that can provide the highest ROI for collateral damage?

Let me do the math for you...

(EvilBrains**Nth) * (M$IE**Nth) == (Opportunity**Nth)**Nth
... therefore it follows
M$IEDamage > OtherBrowserDamage
... and
PerceivedM$IESecurity < PerceivedOtherBrowserSecurity

That was fun! ;D   All kidding aside, would you agree?

Thanks.  I really want to keep things straightforward.  I even like the simplicity of a text editor.

Hi Gerome

Welcome to Cody's Home!
BTW -  What is FBSL mainly about?

I have tried coding in some MS tools, but after what Bill and the Gang recently pulled, I'm leary of them.

Looking forward to some dialog...
Calvin

I've looked, but I haven't seen any reviews about the best coding editor or was the "Best Text Editor" review (BTW - Great article ) supposed to address this?
