Developer's Corner / Re: Some Lua References Converted
« on: June 20, 2010, 12:22 PM »
Seems like a nice thing to have, thanks for converting thse! If my PDA was working I'd point Plucker or iSilo to it. I got a few references stored that way. I don't do anything with Lua at the moment, but since SciTE uses it as kind of a macro language, I might. The Plucker link doesn't seem to be working at the moment for me. (iSilo is actually superior for anything with source code, but desktop companion program has a major annoyance that people have been begging for removal of since 2003, so I'm resisting buying it)

The normal procedure would be to keep the whole process very formal. This distances people from the reality of what's happening

I guess that's the part I was ignorant of. I figured the tweet is the same kind of information that would be in the newspaper the next day, it's just we're getting it firsthand. It's not really news I follow that closely though, so I guess I ass-umed.

(whether you support the death penalty or not - and I have no interest in debating that aspect of it)

Me either. I was just trying to figure out why people were reacting so strongly.  ;)

ironically the tweet could now be applied to Mark Shurtleff himself:
"May God grant him the mercy he denied his victims"

Yeah, it's not like there was a trial or anything. It was all Mark, seeking out his victim vigilante style.

EDIT: Sorry for the sarcasm. To clarify, it is just really hard to see the reaction to the tweet as anything more than the a reaction to the act itself.

He's making a factual statement. And "May God grant him the mercy he denied his victims" seems like a reasonable thing to say, and something he might have said in real life. Not sure what the big deal is. Except if people have objections to the death penalty itself, it is understood that they don't want to be reminded that the death penalty exists, and I guess people are reacting to that.

Sounds interesting. I don't know of a program like that but it sounds like it is doing some kind of version control behind the scenes. Like there is version 1.1, 1.2, of a document. Except the old version is getting deleted or at least hidden. The word "repository" makes me think it is the latter.

Living Room / Re: Facebook Login Issues?

My first guess is one of those numerous addons or user scripts that politely convert every http to https for various sites, one of those was the culprit for me a while back. I was able to log in, but every thing I clicked on went to some scary page saying not to trust them.

And there's a new one out.

The problem in my case, in my opinion, was that a lot of background images, flash, etc. really are not on a secured site, so they really need to be http.

Any idea what registry setting that's under so I can remove the "Shift" requirement for it?

EDIT: Found it!

Navigate to "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\Background\shell\cmd" and rename or delete the "Extended" key.

That gives me an idea to relegate a lot of context menu items I rarely need to that Shift key..wonder if it works in reverse.

FlipSuite and Flipbook Printer / Re: possible to save?
« on: June 18, 2010, 11:31 AM »
I always liked PDF Creator because it has a few options to pause the PDF creation, print "offline" kind of, then later combine multiple prints into a single PDF. The others may have that, too, I don't know. And it may not matter for this application, but you may find other uses for it.

What interests me about this question is that you ideally would like the mails in a Lotus Notes format, BUT you'll settle for txt format, BUT have flat out rejected keeping them in a PST file where all the contents would be preserved the most accurately and still could be archived off locally, sparing you from the mailbox quota. So real problem seems not to be the mailbox quota, but that you are having to archive the mails into a format that you loathe. Am I right?

So ideally (there's that word again), you'd like the mails to autoarchive directly from the mailbox to your preferred format, without the PST intermediary. Right?

Don't really have an answer yet, my first stop to try and find Outlook utilities is always Slipstick. Check the Automatic Processing and Housekeeping sections maybe?

Well, to be honest, i didn't try it.  but I remember when v3 came out and I tried it, even if it can actually store the files locally, I didn't want to continue using it because it forced me to go through a registration process (userid, password).  I didn't see a way to just use the program without registering anywhere for anything.

Ah, got it now. Didn't know that not registering was a requirement. Yeah, it is still that way, so don't bother. It's great for me, because a big part of what I use it for is to grab offline copies of web pages, or clips from them. Kind of like people used to do with furl (haven't tried furl since it got bought by diigo.)

you know, i went back to the website...I didn't see anything about the standalone version.  I think there's a misunderstanding somewhere.  it's still a web only product.  It has a frontend that you can use on your PC, but it's still a web only product.  Maybe I'm mistaken, but I haven't seen anything to indicate otherwise.  And I didn't see any update to the old 2.2 version.

Are you serious? Try the big Download Now button below Evernote for Windows on the right hand side of http://www.evernote.com. The filename is Evernote_3.5.4.2343.exe. Last time I checked you could create local notebooks in addition to accessing the web notebooks (Sadly the Windows Mobile version doesn't have local notebooks (last time I checked)).

EDIT: Just thought of this: Make sure you are not logged in when you go to the site

Windows 7 (and Vista) already has this built in by following these steps:

1. Select the directory so that it is highlighted
2. Hold Shift and Right Click the directory
3. Select Open Command Window Here

Just tried it, and it works on Vista Home Premium in a user account with UAC On.  But if you want a DOS prompt in the current directory, you'd have to go up a level then highlight the one you've just come from, because you don't get Open Command Window Here if you right-click on a file.

You can also Shift-Right Click on a blank space within the current folder

689
In XP I used to add it to the context menu just a registry entry.

690
Well, I guess 2 years ago it looked like the standalone version of Evernote was going away. It is still alive and kicking as far as I can tell, in fact there was an update this month.

T-Clock / Re: T-Clock 2010 (beta - download)
« on: June 16, 2010, 05:27 PM »
I have Win 7 x64 installed, I downloaded the version at the top of the thread, the x64 version , changed Windows to use hideous 144dpi, and T-Clock looks fine to me whether Windows XP scaling is checked or unchecked (was prompted to log off each time). Is there something I should look for?

lol ...bare in mind Sagji is using a 30" monitor at 2560 x 1600, so bumping to fonts up a bit is quite understandable.
Must be nice..:)

Other than letting us know what you monitor size, configuration, & resolution is I can't think of much at the moment - But it's Sagji's bugg (hehe) ... So I'd like to wait and see what his take on this is before drawing any conclusions.

Thank you.

[Musing aloud] Are screen coordinates calculated/handled differently on really big displays?!?
Mine is 1440 x 900. 19" wide screen.

Had the Office 2010 RC a while ago, didn't really do anything with it. Outlook 2010 has a Gmail-style Conversation View, if I'm not mistaken..would be extremely useful at work but at home I use Outlook for everything but email. Didn't really play with the other apps too much.

I installed OpenOffice on a Windows XP system not long ago.
Typed three lines in Notepad.
Pasted them in OpenOffice.
Selected the lines and hit the "bullets" icon on the toolbar.
It put the bullets on separate lines from the text!

I've been meaning to try this same test on my own Windows 7 system just to see if it wasn't just something funky with that computer, haven't gotten around to it yet.

EDIT If it does the same thing in Windows 7, I'll make a video of it with a waa-waa-waa-waa sound effect at the end.

695
I guess the service died before I did.

Scroll to the bottom of this page and see if that helps any. It looks like Alt-Gr + the key gives you the extra function.

However, every line is in the format @Category1,Category2 This is the task :this is the task body where Category2 is TaskDaddyTest. Can you see it? :stars:

Some characters won't show up right on the internet..

I could make it even more random, but this is a good start for my TaskDaddyTester tool.

Looks like a snippet from AutoIt3's documentation to me.

That's right! I've never seen such a big scare headline in the helpfile before.

699
Based on their review of the GTD Implementation Guide, I've definitely the target audience for it.
