I think Jay made another point that i also agree.
Farr should give different bonuses to apps that are more frequently used.
I have a problem with 2 apps: one script i made called "url" and "urlsnooper".
It's very rare that i use urlsnooper, but it still comes up before url, because it's in more important folders.
I solved this by checking the history and changing "url"s bonus, but still it bugged me.
I think the bonus for already launched apps should increase (maybe in a logarithmic way, to prevent apps from having an enormous score).
Why didn't you implement it like that, mouser? Do you have any concerns about that?

eheh... that's a nice site! Love it :D Thanks!

I think that program you proposed is extremely usefull, and unfortunately, I've never seen one like it.

It would be something somewhat similar to windows vista's "virtual folders", right?
I like the tag utility, i use it in gmail, and consider it a great way of organizing things.

The problem is, that this is not exactly a "coding snack", i think it's much harder than that.
Altough, if someone decides to do it, i think it would be a very nice app to be running in the tray, and then you just drag and drop a file in the icon, and a dialog comes up to ask you for a tag and a description of the file. (maybe even a contextmenu in explorer? ;) )

Anyways, I'm a supporter of your idea, eusebius, I'd like to see such app. And who knows, maybe it even already exists! :D

The ironic part about Stop-Sign Antivirus is that it is supposed to remove spyware ;)

Living Room / Re: TyperA - test your typing skills
« on: January 30, 2006, 08:31 AM »
It is so bad to do it in portuguese... Lost of words don't get typed the right way (java's fault) anyways, my results:
Your score: 227 keys per minute ~ 45 words per minute
Language/mode: po
Ranking: Not bad!
Comparison: 43% of registered TyperA users using this language have typed a better result; 57% have a lower or equal result.
Allen and brotherS: how can you type so fast? You must have a special keyboard, right? Or your keyboard only lasts for one month? ;)

ContextMenu Commander / Re: ContextMenu Commander
« on: January 29, 2006, 04:35 PM »
Just found Shell Toys xp, already mentioned in this post, but didn't have link. I think this one is worth checking: http://www.shelltoysxp.com/

4507
Good to know that, mouser. I've hade the same problems with the context menu sometimes not appearing.
One advice that works with me, alexp:
When you record a snapshot, on the left pane go one folder up (you might get an error doing this, i have, just ignore it) and back, and all the options appear again. Hope that smart thumbnail browser won't take long ;)

4508
Hey Alex!
That is some seriously strange behaviour going on there..
Some of mouser programs have problems with windows with different (bigger) font types than the default ones. Do you think it could have something to do with that? If it does, mouser is already aware of that ;)
As for 4, you already can right-click the image on the left pane and access that menu, or do you mean having that menu as a button on sc?

I just found out Stardock's Right Click. Although not free, I think it's also worth mentioning.

GroupBar is sooo nice!
It's just a shame it's sooo buggy to.. :(
But it's a very interesting concept, i think it deserves much attention!
Isn't there another program similar to GroupBar? (one that really works? ;) )

4511

Exactly! Actually, i didn't think about the possibility of adding this option to the "keyboard-accessed context menu options" on the results mentioned before, but it sure is a perfect solution for the problem!
Thanks!!
(at last, i can sleep without worries.. ;) )

I guess i should have been more specific on how easy it is to create aliases with typeandrun.
Here goes a small tuturial and a few suggestions:
I'll create an alias for screenshotcaptor:
First, i call typeandrun, and write the full path of sc (with auto-complete, it's fairly easy, but in farr, it is even easier, since i only have to type the name of the app.):

http://img70.imageshack.us/img70/8351/screenshot11fr.jpg

then, i press ctrl + n and get this:

http://img70.imageshack.us/img70/9053/screenshot25li.jpg

i press enter, and it's done ;)
The things i want to demonstrate here are that in farr, i wouldn't even have to write the full path, so, I'd only write "screen" and sc would be the first result, then i would press ctrl+n (one important thing here, is that this interface would only work for the first result) and then, I'd press enter, since the name of the alias was already there, as it is the name of the app.
To add to an already existing group alias, i think ctrl+shift+n could make a dialog appear with all the aliases groups, I'd select one, press enter to select it and enter to confirm configuration, and I'd have an app added to an alias.
Don't you agree with me that this just brings alias to another level? They become much more practical and easy to create.
(BTW, i don't like to use my mouse when I'm typing, that's the only reason I'm insisting on this..sorry)

Amadawn.. Good find! Rocket Dock is very good, and better than YzDock, the zooming is far more smooth, and it still is being developed.. Great :D

Find And Run Robot / Re: Inconsistencies in file matching
« on: January 28, 2006, 01:18 PM »
Acrystal.. I think your problem has nothing to do with farr inconsistencies..
Farr doesn't search for folders, only files.
What you can do is add shortcuts to your folders somewhere in a folder that farr searches.
If you've detected such problems with files, please post the problems so as we (mouser  :tellme:) can enlighten you :D
(if you'd really like farr to be able to search for folders, please post your love for farr to help us persuade mouser to launch the new farr v2 ;) )

4516
I've never used Quicksilver, but I've used colibri, and yes, colibri searches for non-contiguous letters, which i think is an important feature missing in farr :(
The question for you, mouser is this: will this feature make farr search slower? (i hope not, but my small programming experience tells me it will do.. :( )
Another thing that mouser mentioned were the aliases. IMO, they are very powerfull, a bit hard to use, but most of all, not very practical... At least, not until mouser adds a hotkey to create and update them... (please... please... make aliases more practical... make me not need typeandrun.. ;) ;) )

4517
. . . I guess this officially makes DC's software licensing policy out of this world.
    AhAhAhAh!
(actually, the whole idea of donation coder is already out of this world ;) )

Find And Run Robot / Re: Integrate into taskbar
« on: January 28, 2006, 04:58 AM »
I was thinking: This idea might be nice, that way, there would be no need for a hotkey (well, maybe to focus), and it would look good, a bit like google search ;)
But it has some problems:
1) those people who don't have taskbars, still need the "normal" farr (don't think this is that much of a problem..)
2) identifying the results can get a bit strange, since you'd have the popup comming upwards from the bar, it would generate a strange behaviour from farr..Try selecting the option "edit bar on the bottom". It becomes quite hard to select the first option, since it isn't right below the edit bar. At least I can't use it like that.
3) maybe it would be only more work for mouser to accomplish an option that people would use in the beginning because it's nice to the eye, but would stop using later since it's not very handy.

just my two cents :)

@Amadawn:
Check This Post, here are some similar programs to LaunchBar Commander.
(I also don't know exactly what LaunchBar Comm is, i just took it from from the examples, hope my idea is right)

I wouldn't guess hat farr is one of the least downloaded apps on dc...It's the one i use the most..LOL
(Maybe i'm just weird..)

I think that YzDock also is qualified to enter this thread.
I think it has been discontinued, but for some information, check here

Mouser: good to know that!
I already knew that the file name could be changed there, but i didn't realize that it would also change the format...
Great feature!

Find And Run Robot / Re: Feature Request V2 — Task Control
« on: January 27, 2006, 08:36 PM »
Today, i used colibri for the second time to test the way the setting were accessed.
It actually does some sense, and i think it could be the answer to this problem.
I'm not a big fan of "right arrow" or something like that, i prefer "tab".
To access colibri's settings, you type:
"colibri" (only the first letters are necessary)
press "tab"
and the options bellow change, and the options over that app become available, then, you type:
"settings" (again, only first letters needed)
"tab"
and the settings appear bellow.you type:
"hotkey" (blabla)
and enter
and you have accessed the hotkey settings.
For any other program, you'd do: (example: screenshot captor)
"screenshot captor"
'tab'
"close"
'enter'
To close it. For me, this makes sense. (to go back one level, you can press shift + tab, or use the arrow keys, i think)
IMO, this would be a great way to handle the interface to manage open processes, the only problem would be for those of us that use tab to cycle through the various results.Although i think that when farr has the ability to search for various not-contiguous words, there might not be any need to select another result other than the first.

Screenshot Captor / Re: Mouse Wheel suggestion
« on: January 27, 2006, 04:00 PM »
I don't think i agree with you masu. Only because the left pane is like a file explorer, it shoud behave like one.
The problem is if you have several images in that folder. If you're seing the first one, you'd have to load each one of them to access the last one.
I know, you can always use the scroll bar, but I'm lazy :P
(just my $.02 ;) )

I think i've read somewhere that png doesn't lose quality and has compression, so it seems to me that it is the best format o use.
I have my sc configured to take screenshots on png, and when i want to send the picture to someone, i just do "save copy as" in jpg format :D
The only problem is having to delete the first screenshot, but i don't think i'll die for a few seconds (or will i? ;) )
