General Software Discussion / Re: Worst. Interface. Ever.
« on: January 13, 2006, 11:09 AM »
@ rjbull:
Sorry, i didn't get what you mean...I'm not very experienced in emacs, actually, but I've seen my professors use it,and i got astonished, for those who know its keyboard shortcuts,(not even all of them, cause i know there is one that gives you the rest),emacs can do some great editing (and not only, since i've also heard it even has a lisp interpreter!),IMHO at least...
I don't know what you mean by RSI..
Just out of curiosity, are you a vim user? Don't you support my opinion that there isn't any less intuitive program than vim?

OK...now autoscroll is working with opera!
But i think something is wrong, because if i do ctrl+shift+prtsc and then press shift+click,it does the region select, and if i do ctrl+shift+click,it does the autoscroll cap an everything works allright, but if i do ctrl+click (to capture the window),again, nothing happens..
As for the icon,I've just understood the problem.I use blackbox for windows, and i have the option of shift-rightclicking the icons on the taskbar and make them disappear, and then when i need them again,i go to the taskbar menu and make them appear again. The problem is that if i make sc's icon disappear,it completely vanishes, not appearing on the taskbar menu to be brought back.this is the first app that does this, and it doesn't happen with farr nor with process tammer.not a big deal,i can not make it disappear and no problem,it just stays there!  :D

4578
OK...It would be great if it would work in opera,it's a great feature!
The problem with the icon..I really don't know why that happened,i couldn't see it,but it was running in the processes..
Maybe it was because i didn't reboot after i installed it,or something like that..
Anyways,i just ran it again, and now it had no problems, the icon appeared and stayed there (last time,it appeared when sc was loaded, but disappeared after less than a second)
So..As of this moment, appart from that opera and msnmessenger, everything works as advertised

f0dder i have to agree with you, regardless EMACS  is an extremely powerfull tool,it looks just bad! still, and as you mentioned that kind of apps,i would have to say that the worst interface ever, would be vim! I tried using it once, ran it under Linux on command line, and took me loads of time to even be able to exit it! (i even think i had to restart the machine) I think that nothing about vim makes sense, and i can't see the point of using such editor if you have emacs ;)
Just now, thinking about it,i don't even know if vim can be included in this thread,as there is no interface.. (or is there one and i couldn't find it???)

ps: this is just IMHO,vim users please don't try to send me an anthrax-filled letter or something like that!  :-\

I must say.. scrolling cap is great! although...There's nothing perfect, right ;) (well..maybe farr is )
It worked great with Directory Opus, and with pspad, but it has problems with both opera and msnmessenger  :(
In opera,it identifies the window correctly, but when i do ctrl+shift+click, nothing happens..
In msnmessenger, both the conversation window and the contacts window get misidentified, the whole window gets selected, instead of the part of the window that is scrollable....This gets extremely strange pictures, but no scrolling is done.
BTW,i can't see the icon in the taskbar..Is it my computer's problem or does anyone else not see him?
(ps: i'm using the latest release,2.09.08 and not the beta release)

Just got the lastest release of sc (i think it was already available as i posted this thread.. *sorry*),and it seems that this problem has disappeared!
Don't know if it was mouser that fixed it or if it was only some sort of bad moment on my pc,but i it seems now there is the perfect solution to get a screenshot of your desktop and send it to your friends in no time! :D
Here goes one screenshot of quickload working without any problems:

Found it! :D
(i was looking in the forum i saw it for the first time and couldn't find it..Just searched google and it was the first result!!! grr :wallbash: :wallbash: :wallbash:)
The site i was referring to was frappr!,where you can create a group and than easily add new people to that group by location. But after i read your post, carol, it seems to me that this isn't exactly what you were thinking, was it?I think this is more of an easy way to solve the problem, and not at all as good as the one you were suggesting

(ps: anyone noticed the spell check doesn't recognize a word as important as "google"? ;))

4583
lol!
Thanks Carol (and nice pictures in your site too..congratulations!)! Actually,it only comes out like that because of the spell checker,i take 10 minutes to write a post and another 5 to correct it  >:( (and also,I've had 8 years of English at school and I've been in england for an intensive course on English language,i should almost be able to write novels, don't know how i still can't write a text without errors )
I'm the only Portuguese? ooh...There goes my idea about finding neighbours here! (but still,I'd like that world map with everybody's position..I'm still trying to find out the other one i saw  :tellme:)
Great to meet you,and i hope i can help this forum on it's way through the great freeware applications (and not only)  out there!

(ps: actually, there were no errors in this text when i ran spell check..I'm getting better :))

Whoa...Great thread going on here!
Well..I'm João (eheh,i know.. English people don't know how to read my name,at least the ones i knew when i went to USA),I'm 20 years old and I'm from Portugal.
I'm a university student (that's not the right way to say it,is it?) at Instituto Superior Técnico,in Lisbon, Portugal.
As Lisbon is too far from my parent's house, i spend the weekdays at Lisbon and the weekends at Tomar,my parent's city.
Not being as life experienced as most people that posted here, there isn't much more for me to say, except that you can see some images from Portugal (and no,it isn't a province of Spain  :tellme:),just check here!

(ps: that map thing would be great, mouser,i really would like to see a map with everybody's position in the world, maybe we could even find some neighbours! :) I've already seen one like that and it gives a great look!)

I was trying to post a screenshot, but i seem to be having serious problems with sc (i don't know why,but after i execute it,it just freezes),so, i'll just reboot and try again.

Actually,I'm from Portugal and i don't have credit card,so, I'm a charter member just because of mouser's great kindness :)
(I'm still trying to find a way around to donate to you guys,i really think you deserve ;))
I'm not using the banner anywhere else, since i don't frequent any more forums but this one (who needs it? there's everything here! :D).I'm mostly concentrated in bringing every single friend of mine to here, trying to improve the quality of this forum (if that's possible..lol),and divulging the great creations of the developers :D
(sorry for the bad spelling,i hope spell check caught all of my errors ;))

Hi!
I recently found about Imageshack quickload, and i thought it would be just the perfect tool when combined with sc!
But unfortunatelly,my happyness didn't last long, since in sc's left pane (the one with the tumbnails),in the context menu of one image, not all options of the explorer's contextmenu appear, and the same applies to quickload's.Although i can use it in explorer,i can't use it in sc :S

4589
I've tried Colibri also, and i must confess it's really visually appealing (very "maciish"). But i also couldn't get the settings to display. But something appeared when i typed "colibri",come sort of "about" box or something like that.As i use blackbox (http://bb4win.source...t/bblean/),sometimes some windows tend not to appear, maybe because of that i couldn't see the options by typing colibri. Or maybe that simply wasn't the command..

ContextMenu Commander / Re: ContextMenu Commander
« on: January 04, 2006, 06:42 PM »
that sure seems like a great idea, get various *useful* options at the distance of a click!
there's one feature i can't find anywhere that i think would be great if you could include in contextmenu commander:
the possibility to change the order of te items in the context menu (the ones that are put by other programs, like pikybasket),because sometimes (as happens with piky in my computer),the options are too far to be handy ;)
i dunno if it can be done (since i didnt find any app that allowed me to do this),but it would be great if u could add this :D
thanks!!!

Find And Run Robot / Re: typeadrun
« on: January 04, 2006, 04:26 PM »
thanks for the fast answer (omg how is this possible,it only gave me time to see a few posts :))
i sure would like for the first request to be applied,i dont like the idea of having two similar programs running at the same time(as i have now ;))
as for the second matter, thats excactlly my problem: i don't like the idea of launching another but the first item of the menu (like selecting it with # or f#),imagine this situation: if i had a group called games with more items than i have set to appear at the menu,i would'nt be able to call all of them.
in this "games" group imagine i would have minesweeper.i would like to call it with "games minesweeper".is there any way to do this?
thanks!

Find And Run Robot / typeadrun
« on: January 04, 2006, 03:54 PM »
hey mouser!
first,i must say: this is a great program!!! thanks!!!
i was needing a program like farr, since i use blackbox for windows (http://bb4win.sourceforge.net/bblean/) and i don't have fast access to start menu.
but when i started using farr,i detected that one of its functions is not using it's full power.
i'm referring to aliases.i'm not an expert in using them, but i think they are missing a few functions (or would it be that i just don't know how to use them? ;))
the functions that i think are missing are something like this:
1) create an alias fast (i know u don't like hotkeys, but IMO this would be an important place to put one),just like in typeandrun (http://www.galanc.com ->great console also!),in witch you just type the path to the file, ctrl + n and you've created a brand new alias!
2) i don't like the idea of selecting another option other than the first one in farr,so,it seems that creating a group just doesn't fit me..i'd like to create a group like,say..named 'games' with all my games, and then,to call one of the games in that group, just write it's name until it becomes the first one and then press enter..would this be possible?
well..i think that's all for now,ill try to have new ideas to help improve your great work!
thanks again keep up the good work!

(ps: sorry for the not-so-good english,i'm portuguese, not used to write in english ;) )
