Don't type your password into random websites (leakedin)
Hi, Justice.  I'm not really sure what you mean.  Do you mean "enter your password some other way rather than typing it in"?  Or do you mean that LinkedIn (which I agreed to join and for which I have set a specific password) is a "random website"??  :tellme:
The leakedin website lets you type in your password, and it will check to see if it has been leaked by linkedin. I say don't type your passwords into any other website than the one it belongs to.

I'm not sure why you think this is a personal problem, it's not my screenshot :) maybe read the articles :)

But in pulling a couple of screenshots for Local University Advanced on Thursday, this one for “pizza” really struck me.

Personally I haven't been able to replicate this though, was wondering if you had?

Not a big problem, any serious developer writing a windows desktop app will have no problem paying for Visual Studio.
If the philosophy is that the future is metro, people starting out now should write for metro.

If that is the case then, why not split it into Windows Metro and remove the whole desktop part of it, with Windows 8 Enterprise that has desktop only.

Don't find this very simple or clean, just low contrast?

Archive or export the list?

With Sublime Text, you can fold/unfold any text you have selected with the mouse (ctrl-shift-[)

I've updated PutAside today (1.12). Thanks to Ath. PutAside is now no longer incorrectly flagged by Anti Virus software and includes the latest DcUpdater helper utility for update checking.

I've also put the source on github so you can submit pull requests with your source code changes. Because of this, the zip file no longer includes source files.

Yes I have to add I'm part of a team of two web developers with a manager, so 3 people using this board :) It's not a helpdesk / ticketing system, it's more higher level it can replace those "status meetings" where you get asked what you did all week and where you are with such and such project.

Noone here using trello?

Trello is a collaboration tool that organizes your projects into boards. In one glance, Trello tells you what's being worked on, who's working on what, and where something is in a process.

I'm using it at work to keep an overview of all the projects that we are working on, and it is really intuitive like that.
We use one board. We currently have 6 lists (Inbox, in planning, in progress, in testing, done, postponed). 3 labels (scheduled, priority, nice to have). Each project is a card, it belongs optionally to one or more labels, but always to one of the lists.

With the features of activity messages, checklists and due dates this allows us to keep on top of things. It works well in addition to a helpdesk because there are no reports options and it's not a communication tool.

I have had VM for close to two years and I haven't noticed this. Give VM a call they will send out an engineer to you free of charge. My box starts distorting the audio after being on for a few hours, simply putting it into standby and back on fixes it. They also have a good support forum if you are not in a hurry.

Nice I didn't know PSPad had this built in! I Noticed that there are no longer start menu options to add AHK highlighting to Notepad++ some time back after installing AHK.

Don't upgrade Windows, install a clean version, so you start with a clean sheet - then move your data back on to it.
Install less software, instead use portable software and programs that come with Windows. For example avoid Office if you can help it and instead use Wordpad or Google Docs.
Use readyboost.
Choose a performant anti-virus (out of date in terms of product versions, but good starting point)
Don't change system settings because some blog says so, they might make your system slower or have adverse effects (turning off essential features).

Interesting article by Fred Dutton, speaking to former World of Warcraft lead Mark Kern:

[…] the Red 5 Studios CEO argued that the free-to-play model offers developers much more room to flex their creative muscles, rewarding gamers with more innovative gameplay experiences than risk-averse AAA console publishers can hope to offer.

“The failure is that there’s no middle ground. All the games in the middle that could have been made but have been squeezed out and we’ve seen all these independent studios get closed down over the last few years.

The net driving force is distribution, and it’s disrupting all distribution channels.

Living Room / Blog comments - On of off?
« on: May 03, 2012, 05:30 AM »
A good overview of advantages and disadvantages of not having comments on your blog, an approach more and more writers take.
For most people, a comment form is an essential part of what a blog is, and most of us enjoy the opportunity to leave feedback (even if we do so only rarely). But there are also plenty of possible reasons why comments are unnecessary, or undesirable.

N.A.N.Y. 2012 / Re: NANY 2012 Release: NoteMe
« on: May 01, 2012, 06:54 AM »
Thanks for your feedback kalos. I don't think NoteMe is the right program for you - it will never ever do batch email, as this enables spam. You have a valid point about the robustness of sending however, I will take that into account for future versions.

NoteMe is not for automatic / enterprise level notifications it's simply a tool to send yourself a couple of words. There are better tools for what your uses, maybe something like opsview, splunk for example.

121
Maybe you have a virus

122
If this is feasible I'm sure that antivirus is already doing it?

123
Good luck :)

Developer's Corner / Re: EasyGit - Sane syntax for git

Yes and SVN (but not svn working copies, it will create a 99% compatible git working copy that interacts with the svn repository)

Feature request:
I notice that when I add decoration to a screenshot (SpecialFX, highlights, squares, arrows) and I use one of the SendTo options, it will send the screenshot without the decor. I understand you might want people to purposely "save" the picture, but I'd like to see the default be that the image 'as you see it' is sent, even if it is a temporary copy. If you don't agree with that, perhaps ask if I am sure if I want to send the picture with unsaved changes.

It has caught me out more than once.
That said, amazing program!
