Living Room / Re: Android tablets to rival iPad

The Notion Ink tablet looks pretty tempting to me - usable in bright sunlight for example.
I would really like to get my hands on one of these.

Living Room / Memorable holiday gifts
« on: December 03, 2010, 07:01 PM »
Since a lot of people will still be searching for just the right gifts for the holidays, I would suggest a thread with gift suggestions that are certain to be memorable and might gain you long lasting  gratitude.  :-[

The snuggies wearable blankets http://www.youtube.c...dSU&feature=fvsr are already well known and the commercial has been amended frequently (e.g http://www.youtube.c.../watch?v=h05ZQ7WHw8Y ).
Now, we are finally getting some technical improvements to this softwear product. The "forever lazy" overall (ForeverLazy); also on Youtube; please note the ingenious zippers on the back an how good it looks worn to a party.

Living Room / Re: 5 New Favorite Sites

Hi Zaine, glad that you liked it.  There is a lot to discover on the Wholehealthsource site.
But tell us more about your "Ding Dong Diet"     Sounds not exactly tasty but interesting.

Lutz, that's exactly the blog I need -- an author who explains the research! His explanation of why the Twinkie Diet worked is true to my "Ding Dong Diet" experience I conducted from 2007-2009. Too bad (for me) that the price of fresh/healthy foods are prohibitive.

The FiveBooks site is bookmarked for some leisure time enjoyment!

A blog with rational and scientific literature based healthy lifestyle recommendations, which is also a fascinating read:

Living Room / Re: Fake Coffee Shop in China (NSFW) (Can you guess?)

I guess it it a nice joke, but likely fake.  Why would anybody in China add "p@@n queen" to the mermaid?

The SanDisk Sansa Fuze works for me just fine, nice soundquality, long battery life, small, has a micro SDHC card slot, cheap and it is .... simple.  It is just a music player and radio; it does not require any special software. You can also find some accessories for it online.

Living Room / Re: Laptop choice: better CPU or more RAM ?

Perhaps OT,  but I really hate the latest generation of notebooks because of their abysmal vertical display resolution (something like 720 pixels).
The designers apparently assume that watching videos is the main reason of existence for a notebook and not reading and working with texts or anything else a bit longer. Perhaps something to watch out for.

Does it, or is it going to, support regular expressions?
The demo video says: Yes.

Found Deals and Discounts / Re: Zoner Photo Studio Free

Hello Armando,
I guess such a comparison can become almost endless.  :D
"Helicon Photo Safe" is another free and very neat and easy image viewer and organizer.

Thanks for the compilation on Wikipedia!

Hi Rob,
I would suggest to keep the nomenclature as short and distinct as possible. As Jim suggested, Basic and Advanced modes are just fine but perhaps a bit boring. I do not have a good idea of your planned UI design but I cannot associate anything meaningful with "Kayak mode" although the name is certainly attractive.  Reducing the current nomenclature to Quick mode and Pro mode would at least spare the users one or two redundant words each time. But are these two modes the only ones or are there any others?

61
Rob, I just wanted to mention perhaps you could use some more  simplified nomenclature - e.g. currently there are the "quick edit mode" and "pro quick edit mode"?  Is there also a "pro slow edit mode"?

62
Your experiences do not seem to be soo great.
But the price is still very attractive!  :-[

General Software Discussion / Re: Kingsoft Office
« on: August 24, 2010, 12:39 AM »
Is it a good sign or a bad sign, when the website for an office software suite has as many typos as the one from Kingsoft?   :-*

Thanks a lot for the great review.
Would you know by chance the degree of support for 64bit Windows OSses?  I tried to get my scanner working with the Vuescan trial on Win7/64bit without much luck (but there are no Visioneer 64 bit drivers either).  Are there some tricks available online anywhere?

These super-simple stands look practical for desk usage:

The ribbon offers several buttons that are bigger than before - wow!; it also asks you to find more detailed tools behind some rather clumsy and non-intuitive folding out menu structures etc..
Overall it only looks good. It does not save any time and requires more mouse clicks than than the standard interface for most tasks - for me.
The ribbon is change but unfortunately no progress. Consequently, I also purchased the "classical interface" add on for my work PC.

67
Thanks!  A great read.
I will have to check what  Mr. Brooker is up to more often.

That sounds like a great idea: ebook reader for children
.... And it's one of the few technological devices that can't be used to waste time and rot their brains.
Although I am pretty confident this, too, will change soon enough - likely before our son will be able to appreciate an ebook reader.

Looks like a interesting program but I can't install the latest free version on Win7/64 and do get a "install failed #101" error message.  I am running the installer as administrator.   ???

70
Yes, Expicula seems to be pretty straightforward, intuitive and quick.
Thanks for the reminder!

Users speaking German might also want to try Expicula which looks promising indeed.  :)

I had problems with restoring an Acronis "TrueImage"  a few years ago - and it installs all kinds of background services programs that will be running on every startup.  I tried the Terabyte solution but it was way too geeky for me.  I have not the slightest clue what most of the options are about.  Paragon Hard Disk Manager seems to be right for me; dumbed down just enough for me to be able to use it; it has been reliable so far and has a wonderful rescue CD that offers exactly the same user interface and tools as the full install of the program.

I guess you could just sent the donation by Paypal to the author at " rob at sagelighteditor dot com " - the email address should be enough, or not?

I gave the promo a try, paying just the few dollars I happened to have sitting in my PayPal account. Having finally tried it and really enjoyed it, I'm wishing I had paid more.

Does anyone know if there's a way to donate additional money?
