Do they allow lane splitting in CT?? ...Remember I'm on a motorcycle. :D

No amount of leather is gonna help you on I-95.  :(  ... any state.

OTOH I have split small packs at 120mph on I-95 more than once ... But don't tell Crabby3.. ;)

luck (luhk) - noun

1. When opportunity meets preparedness. (c3-pedia)

2. Good fortune; advantage or success, considered as the result of chance.

1 + 2 = SJ ?

Something to ponder over: Many men and women have switched from smoking to chewing.
Vehicle doors (on either side) could open at any moment.  Any season and almost any speed.
Great 'opportunity' to clip the handle bar, lose some fingers or just a leg.

If your DC contributions suddenly stop... :(   I'll always remember you as the Male Trinity from The Matrix Reloaded.

Teen Tattoos McDonald's Receipt on His Arm, a Week Later Tattoos the Tattoo Receipt on His Other Arm

For some, peer pressure is hard to overcome but I have to agree with the last line -
Apparently "loyal" is Norweigian for "stupid."

I suppose it could have been worse; Barbie doll or jump off a building.   ;D

No. I was just drawing parallels - the smells are very different. I like them both. :P

So what does DDT smell like?  :tellme:

Living Room / Re: How many germs are living on your keyboard?
« on: December 11, 2014, 08:19 AM »
Ok, this is kind of gross...

My daughter sent me this link.

Answer the quiz and post your results.

Here is my disgusting results  :-[ :

There are about 2,561,580 germs on your keyboard right now!
That's equivalent to the number of germs on 512 toilet seats.

Couldn't find yours but this gives the same results:  http://www.cyberclea...n/Keyboard_Test.html

Mine was 2,336,880 which equals 467 toilet seats (or 1 salad bar).   ;D

BTW, I know this sounds twisted but I've always loved the way the spray smells... ;D - Kinda like some people liking the way petroleum products smell.

So DDT smells like kerosene?  Hopefully not.  i used to follow the fogger trucks on my bicycle... huffin.  That mild kerosene smell was great.
Don't know what they use these days but it's invisable and unscented.  ;D

Christmas  Jokes

When you stop believing in Santa Claus is when you start getting clothes for Christmas.

* * *
A guy bought his wife a beautiful diamond ring for Christmas.
After hearing about this extravagant gift, a friend of his said, "I thought she wanted one of those sporty four-wheel-drive vehicles."
"She did," he replied. "But where was I going to find a fake Jeep?"

* * *
In a small Southern town there was a "Nativity Scene" that showed great skill and talent had gone into creating it. One small features bothered me. The three wise men were wearing firemen's helmets.
At a "Quick Stop" on the edge of town, I asked the lady behind the counter about the helmets. She exploded into a rage, yelling at me, "You damn Yankees never do read the Bible!" I assured her that I did, but simply couldn't recall anything about firemen in the Bible. She jerked her Bible from behind the counter and ruffled through some pages, and finally jabbed her finger at a passage. Sticking it in my face she said,
"See, it says right here, The three wise men came from afar."

* * *
Three men died on Christmas Eve and were met by Saint Peter at the pearly gates.

"In honor of this holy season," Saint Peter said, "You must each possess something that symbolizes Christmas to get into heaven."

The first man fumbled through his pockets and pulled out a lighter. He flicked it on. "It represents a candle," he said. "You may pass through the pearly gates," Saint Peter said.

The second man reached into his pocket and pulled out a set of keys. He shook them and said, "They're bells." Saint Peter said, "You may pass through the pearly gates."

The third man started searching desperately through his pockets and finally pulled out a pair of women's glasses.

St. Peter looked at the man with a raised eyebrow and asked, "And just what do those symbolize?"

The man replied, "They're Carol's."

Santa Stats (US)

There are currently 78 people named S. Claus living in the U.S. -- and one Kriss Kringle.

December is the most popular month for nose jobs.

Weight of Santa's sleigh loaded with one Beanie Baby for every kid on earth: 333,333 tons.

Number of reindeer required to pull a 333,333-ton sleigh: 214,206 -- plus Rudolph.

Average wage of a mall Santa: $11 an hour.  With real beard: $20.

To deliver his gifts in one night, Santa would have to make 822.6 visits per second, sleighing at 3,000 times the speed of sound.

At that speed, Santa and his reindeer would burst into flame instantaneously.

Reload that machine with Windows 7 64-bit home premium or professional, and use either Chrome or Firefox.

Without even changing the hardware, you'll experience computing like never before.

Though it probably would be worth considering a new build. Something in the Haswell family from Intel with 8-16GB of ram and 64-bit Windows 7. Windows 8 is not recommended for desktops unless you are building for a kid who is used to smarphones, and Windows (9) 10 is probably going to be a disaster.

Telling someone to reload their machine with a different operating system doesn't seem like the desired solution to a particular software problem that's just emergent.

I agree.  Although i did say any suggestions.  My mistake.   ;D

Well... This is one of the few (if not only) areas where front wheel drive cars are way more fun that rear wheel drive cars. You see rear wheel drive cars are considerable more "directionally stable" which I accidentally verified when my dog decided to stumble across the shifter (shoving the car in reverse) in a Camaro we had at (once again) about 50 mph. Outside of a rather huge and quite confusing cloud of tire smoke...nothing exciting really happened.

I would have to say *extreme luck* kept you and Fido from harm.  Directional stability just means you flip end-over-end, if the u-joint snaps behind the transmission, similar to a pole-vault.  Another fun event would be if the drive shaft bounced off the road and up through the floor.  Gives a new meaning to being rear-ended if the shaft desides to come up under your seat.  Of course you may not notice as you pull the steering wheel out of your mouth.

You'd be surprised what an 80s era junk-yard had.   ;D :)

I can't seem to view any spoilers here.  Is it a DC Personal Preference or my machine?   :tellme:

I presume it is something i have turned off somewhere because they used to work.

... so no one has any  :two: ?

Not ignoring you. :)  But (in my case) I'm so out of touch with Vista and its security model (it has been awhile) that I doubt I could offer much in the way of useful advice for a machine still running it. There's bound to be another holdout here that can suggest something.

You might try reposting your query in the Living Room or General Software section. Posting 101 is a bit of a backwater at DoCo. It doesn't get a lot of technical questions.

Thank you, 40hz, for your input.  I'll repost in Living Room.   :)

(Sigh). Easy on the eye, but hard on the grammar. So much for crowd-sourcing of knowledge...
At least the spelling is OK.

Oh, and that's a grammar error that gives me the same physical reaction as nails on a blackboard!  :o

.. so you must cringe a lot when you're here?   ;D

I cringe a lot, in general. I don't keep track of where, any more.

.. oddly enough... this doesn't bother me at all...

Living Room / Anyone here use Emsisoft Anti-Malware?
« on: December 06, 2014, 01:07 PM »
Bleeping Computer seems to really like Emsisoft Anti-Malware but I'm not so sure.

Yes... it found 9 items but could only 'clean' 5... suggesting I visit their forum where i would receive *free* assistance removing the other 4.
This doesn't sound very favorable does it?   :tellme:

General Software Discussion / Re: Twilight Zone Scammer Bust
« on: December 06, 2014, 06:56 AM »
From the Bwahaha Dept:

I've spent a few hours having fun watching a couple of security guys doing exposes of the 3rd rate Windows support scam. (Troy Hunt and someone from MalwareBites).

They're entertaining enough, with a mostly predictable "formula".

Then this one came along. Troy Hunt again. Except this one takes a twilight zone ending. You're welcome to listen to the whole thing, but if you want to just skip to the fun part, go to time stamp 53:00. After poking about Western Union and failing at the whole credit card bit of the scam, the guy struggles to spell "Google Chrome" a few times. This part is like a prologue so you can get settled into the whole atmosphere.

Then we get to the fun stuff.

At 54:40, the guy opens ... Notepad. He types up his own "temporary form". Laughable, but so far still "in formula".

A bit past 56:00, Troy begins his wind down by typing in total junk. Notice the guy still has team viewer on, ... and isn't reading it, but rather still reading his script.

As a public service to Renny, he is advised to take a restroom visit at 58:00.

The rest is ... epic!

:D

Scammers meet the Australian Outback

https://www.youtube..../watch?v=WbyN8CiM2rQ

In the first video, at 12:11, a timer pops up.  Troy dragged it off-screen so fast... it appeared to go right past the edge of the YouTube screen.
As if someone was watching me watch the video and controlling my machine.  Rewinding a few times calmed me down.  :)

Also.. listening to the three different 'tech support' people brought back some not-so-fond-memories as well.

...  ..-  -.-.  -.-  .  .-.

The FBI Scam had me jumping through hoops for a while... til i called Green Dot...   :-[ ;D :)
