Idea: Desktop launcher
« on: March 08, 2007, 12:32 PM »
Hey everyone,
got an idea here that I think would be useful (I have a setup that would go perfectly with this)...
if you have used LBC (I am guessing most of you have) then you should know that it has an option to launch an application on a single click. Well, why not use and extend that idea and use the desktop as a "zoned" area to launch apps. For example, if the user clicks in a designated area like Zone 1 (predefined) then application "this_great_app.exe" will launch. And if Zone 2 is clicked in then the app "pointless_windows_mod.exe" will launch, etc. Not really a Coding "Snack" I guess (I am not a coder) but would do wonders for me.

At first... what to hell is LBC? Do you have a link?
What´s the big difference in using the Desktop as a Startup-Area without visible Icons and how do you know that you are within the right area to launch something special? At least you should be able somehow to start programs via Icon.
The Icons show you what application will start - the area not. The launcher would only be senseful for very vew but often used applications.

I use Direct Access  >  http://www.nagarsoft...om/DirectAccess.aspx
It is not free but it is one of the best programs I have ever used.
To launch ny e-mail client it type    tb on my desktop then F2 ( you could change that )
Firefox is ff.  Excel is   xl and so on.  I made the abreviations so they are easy to remember.
Want to go to a website /  I type   dc and bingo I'm at Donation Coder.
It  will do text also.    br  =  Best Regards

I love it. Wouldn't be without it.
